115 Chapter 114: End of an era

Bang!

Damon was about to move but then countless bone chains shot out of the accursed gate of the underworld, impaling him from all sides while holding him down!

Bleegh!

Damon spat out a mouthful of blood as his strength crumbled. Damon fell on his knees while bleeding profusely with a terribly pale face filled with black cracks. His eyes were blood red just like all the other death mages he had seen in the past. To win this war he had overexerted himself and even now he was still getting hurt even though his condition was bad.

“What is the meaning of this?” Damon gasped but his words weren’t directed to Duke Hail or the other spirit realm champions. It was directed at the being hidden within the gate of the underworld!

Death!

“My priority is to keep you safe... they may be your friends but now is not the time to get sentimental! Your survival comes first! I will not let you die because of your attachments to those humans who betrayed you regardless of what past you share! Gin, Cyrus, and Klien are a thing of the past. You will no longer share a relationship with those mortals as you are destined for even greater things!” A voice boomed from the massive bone gate causing Damon to grimace.

At first, Damon was furious but slowly his rage died down. If he wasn’t paying attention, he would have ended up believing that Death was trying to be selfish again but thinking back on it, making such a bold declaration in front of so many people would be more than enough to remove any lingering doubts directed at them.

Thinking of it now, Damon realized how dumb he was. He may have thought he was doing these humans a favor by revealing his identity as a death mage but he failed to realize the danger he put the other hosts in!

.....

After this event, the trio would be deeply investigated since they all had close relationships with Damon. With what happened, Duke Hail would most likely testify in their favor since the Duke was actually a good man.

“What are you saying? I am still human! Just a human with a gift the world cannot accept! If I can’t save those I care about with this power then of what use is it?” Damon growled furiously.

He had decided to play along with Death and save his friends. After all of this is over, he should be able to return and save them from the kingdom in the future.

“Enough! For a long time now you have resisted my control and gone against my will to help these humans even though I warned you! Look at you now! Satisfied?” The voice boomed from the gate and Damon spat out another mouthful of blood as the bone chains stabbing into his back plunged deeper!

“Damon!” Duke Hail cried out with concern in his eyes as he watched his junior suffer.

Before he felt pity for Damon but he s fought against him since he believed the death mages are truly evil but hearing these words and seeing Damon suffer even Kal, Brandon, and Isabella couldn’t help but feel bad.

Right now, Duke Hail may not have been aware of it but tears were running down his cheeks and the other members of Duke Hail’s family who heard this and watched Damon suffer couldn’t help but feel bad!

Damon’s lonely figure remained kneeling in the midst of thousands of corpses with his hair fluttering in silence. With the light of the blood moon shining over him, everyone welcomed the sad scene of the so-called demon in a devastated state.

The look in Damon’s eyes was that of defeat and regret!

Almost immediately, his undead army stopped chasing down the enemy and soon began offering themselves up to the mighty gate, to save their master.

Slowly their numbers began to dwindle as more of them slowly turned into green light, racing into the massive bone gate. One after the other this kept happening as the gate kept opening up slowly.

Bang!

The massive gate slowly yanked open but just a little! The incredible death forces surged out, forcing even the spirit realm masters to flee as they could not resist this power! They could only watch from a distance as Damon got impaled by more bone chains and his body getting dragged into the gate!

His blood splattered generously all over the battlefield while he was getting taken away.

“When I return, I will reduce you and everyone who had a hand in this to ashes! Even in death, you shall never know peace!” Damon declared with a fierce look of hatred in his eyes

His eyes slowly shut on their own as he was dragged away. After losing so much blood it wasn’t too surprising that something like this could happen.

...............

Huff!

Damon suddenly yanked his eyes open and a fierce pain invaded his eyes, causing him to shut them. He found it hard to breathe or even move. Separate from the fact that the air here wasn’t conducive to breathe causing his throat to burn but he felt weighed down. It felt like a massive mountain was placed on his back, pinning him to the ground.

“This is the underworld.... Mortals shouldn’t be allowed to exist here.... It’s even shocking that you have survived this long!” A familiar voice rang in his ears causing Damon to frown.

In an instant, he recognized the voice and adjusted his seating position before speaking.

“Death?” Damon muttered with his eyes still shut tight.

“Call me Demos, guardian spirit of death...” Demos said with a relaxed look on his face.

His gaze on Damon’s figure was soft and delicate, like that of a father looking at his long lost son.

Aah!

Damon slowly opened his eyes causing them to bleed but he didn’t care. After everything he has gone through, bleeding eyes were nothing to him now. What he saw was a young looking man in his mid thirties, dressed in ancient black robes with two pairs of black angelic wings.

Beside Demos was a mighty black death scythe, levitating without restraint.

Where he was in the underworld seemed like a barren line with crack grounds. The sky was blood red with venom green clouds and lots of black chains connecting the ground to the sky.

“Hehehe! If I told anyone that the prince of the underworld was not a terrifying existence but a handsome young bachelor, do you know how many young maidens would be willing to come here to be your bride?” Damon laughed weakly, revealing his teeth that had been stained by blood.

Even now he had no hands and his robes were probably rags. Damon’s hair seems to have grown and was a complete mess.

“Enough of this nonsense, how can you joke in such a condition?” Demos rebuked but he didn’t look annoyed, instead, he looked sad.

No matter what anyone said, Damon was still a child. For a fifteen year old to have gone through all of this even though he has not committed any crime, instead, he even helped these people, yet he was reduced to this pitiful form.

“What am I supposed to do? Would you prefer I cry for something I had no power against?” Damon said with a bitter smile.

He sincerely didn’t want to think of what happened, and neither did he want to think of what may happen next. Right now the continent wasn’t a place he could go back to since he has made an enemy out of anyone but staying here would also mean abandoning other hosts.

“Currently you are the host with the highest cultivation base alongside Elsa Leaf, the nature host... you can’t stay here for too long so while you are at it, you might as well prepare yourself for your return” Demos said with a frown but Damon replied with a disapproving head shake.

“My one hundred thousand strong undead forces were sacrificed to open the gates of the underworld. Back then I could lead an army and slowly build my forces through constant wars but now I have nothing... I cannot save anyone!” Damon said with a sad smile.

“Hmph! You disappoint me! Do you think this merger strength is the true power of the death magic? You think too little of the inheritance I wish to impact on you!” Demos snorted disdainfully leaving Damon shocked.

What the hell is Demos talking about?

Doesn’t he have the power of death already?

If not, what has he been using all this while?

“What do you mean?” Damon struggled to get on his feet since he had no hands. Seeing this pitiful scene, the annoyed gaze of the death guardian spirit softened as he walked forward and helped Damon up before explaining.

“Normal hosts are chosen from the start, allowing them to be born with unique traits and physiques.... The original hosts are also born with the true inheritance of their power but this new set which are hasty replacements is yet to gain the inheritance you deserve. Only when you gain this inheritance will you truly become the Death Mage and not just some random host!” Demos said with a firm look on his face.
