Chapter 17

The next day, the stationary store’s grand opening dawned.

I finally took a look at the inside after putting up an ‘open’ sign on the front door of the stationary store.

In the middle was a counter with balloons huddled together.

On the left, there was a box with small rings and accessories purchased from antique streets. I used clean magic on them and wrapped them.

Next to them lay a wide slushy barrel. Thanks to the devil’s ability, keeping the slush in there for a long time won’t change them for months.

“It’s perfect.”

I nodded with a proud face.

There were some cupboards to the right of the stationary store.

On top of the cupboards were sheets of paper that had been woven all night, a diary with ancient words on the front, a pen with feathers, and an embroidered pencil case .

“Are you happy, Mel?” asked Dominque with a light smile.

“Yeah, but we still don’t have enough products…”

The assortment was roughly coordinated, but it was somewhat regrettable that there were few things I made myself.

‘There should be beer candy, paint candy, slushy, and a lot of junk food at a stationary store. But it’s a trap that there’s only slushies right now…’

Dominique, who wore an apron and was making Dalgona with me all night, had dark circles under his eyes. He sat in front of the counter and gave a playful laugh.

“Did you think of new items to develop?”

“Um… Of course I thought a lot. But it’s not something we can implement right now.”

At the moment, I had about 100 million bekrels in my hands.

‘I can use magic to implement items that aren’t here, but I don’t have a wizard.’

This was a large amount of money to run a small store. However, it’s not enough to hire a magician directly and pay him a salary.

There wasn’t enough money to hire a wizard above the intermediate level.

That’s why I wanted the devil Dominique summoned.

“What is it, say it.”

“First, I want to make a beer candy.”

“Beer candy? What’s that?”

I shook my head.

“If you don’t know beer candy, you’ve missed out, Dominique.”

The proud hero, Dominique’s eyes widened.

“You mean it’s that amazing of a product?”

Dominique was often too naive to make fun of.

I decided to confess.

“Listen well, Dominique. Usually, children learn by watching everything adults do.”

“…yeah?”

Dominque tilted his head.

“Yes, adults like to drink.”

Furthermore, thanks to the hot weather these days, the number of breweries had increased, and beer had become a sensation even among aristocrats.

Beer was best in the summer.

“So they probably saw adults drinking over their shoulders. But kids can’t drink, can they?”

Dominique nodded.

“Yes, I know that it’s illegal for a child to drink beer. Since it makes your mind and body weak.”

“That’s right.”

“So what do you want to do?”

I grinned at Dominique who had a curious look.

“I’m going to make two beer candies. One is beer candy that adults can eat. Make it look like real beer. And the other is one for children that looks like beer. The candy for children won’t make them get drunk or have hangovers. It’s going to be sweet.”

“Interesting.”

Dominique looked at me seriously and nodded.

‘It’s hard to realize it doesn’t exist in this world. I wish I had a wizard.’

I shook my head with a look of regret.

Looking at me like that, Dominique clicked his tongue a few times.

“I also know how to do basic life magic. With the ingredients to make beer candy, I think I can do something.”

“Oh, really? For real?”

I thought that if the stationary store grew, then it would be possible to really supply and demand!

I suddenly felt like I was seeing hope.

“Then we need a lot of the ingredients and beer for the candy.”

Dominique spoke with a frown, “Why do we need those?”

Was it not just do this and that, and it’s done?

“In order to implement beer in the adult candy, we have to implement the taste of beer ourselves.”

“Ah, I see.”

The same goes for the one for kids. We need reference materials to make the perfect beer look.”

“Oh…”

I looked at Dominique with glistening eyes, expecting some of his expertise. (P/R: Mel has high expectations for Dom to help out with his magic to make the candy.)

He was already my savior.

Dominique mumbled low, lowering his eyes as if he was embarrassed from my gaze.

“…well, as you know, I was put in a sword during my infancy. So I don’t remember drinking beer, and I don’t remember seeing alcohol up close.”

Come to think of it, I forgot that Dominique was a boy knight who died young.

‘It’s been over a thousand years since he’s been in that sword.’

I felt complicated in my heart for his unusual life.

I raised my hand and patted him on the shoulder.

“I understand.”

“Yeah.”

“…other than that, well, I did everything else.”

It was just like Dominique to brag in your ears.

I nodded and spoke, “Yes, yes. Then we should get beer. We only need it for reference materials, right?”

Getting beer was easy. You just needed to buy it.

Then won’t we succeed?

But Dominique turned a blind eye to my sparkling eyes.

“No. The magic of creating and combining something requires a very delicate task. Beer candy is the same. We’ll have to make a magical brewing process.”

“Brewing process?”

“Yes, you need to know the brewing process to make magic foods. We need to go to a person who knows a lot about alcohol to teach me about the brewing process step by step.”

Dominique continued to speak during the unsavory day. He seemed a little embarrassed.

“…beginners tend to rely on specific magic. I’m a beginner in life magic.”

Now that I see it, I guessed he was worried about breaking my expectations because of restrictions. But Dominique used magic and swords, so that’s understandable.

I nodded my head quietly.

But even if alcohol was available, where can we find someone like that?

In the first place, we didn’t know anyone who knew a lot about alcohol, and we didn’t have a lot of money to buy a lot of alcohol.

I smiled first and looked around.

“Then let’s think about beer candy later and think about what we’re selling now. That’s why we’re saving seed money.”

“Yes. Maybe we’ll become a hit if we sell all of these.”

Dominique answered proudly.

“That’s right! We also have slushies made of ice that even aristocrats can’t eat easily.”

…was what we said with full groundless confidence in the morning.

Hiing.

Hours after the opening, I was embarrassed about being excited making business items with Dominique.

“Even if we didn’t advertise it, how could we not get any customers?”

I looked around and murmured helplessly.

“Why are there only flies going around.”

Last night, Dominique, who was overworked because of me, stretched and fell asleep.

He spoke as if it was nothing, “Is it because it’s not time for the kids to come yet?”

“Then should we target the merchants around us first?”

Since the academy kids can visit from time to time.

I mumbled with a sad face.

“It isn’t bad.”

I pulled up my stiff body.

If everything’s okay, I’ll just go around to advertise.
