There was no place to take a child who didn’t like doctors, so we headed for the stationary store.

‘A cleaning spell has been casted, but it still feels shabby.’

The child, who entered the stationary store before the remodeling, seemed to have been shocked by the modest interior.

But luckily, he was brainwashing himself with: ‘I’m a knight. This is a battlefield.’

I took out the emergency medicine I took when I left the duchy, disinfected the child’s legs and wrapped a bandage around them.

“It’s almost done.”

On top of it, Dominique quietly put his hand on it.

It was probably healing magic, but the child closed his eyes and did not see the magic in action.

“It d-doesnt hurt at all.”

“You’re like a cool knight.”

My gaze upon the child soon turned toward the object in his hand.

The object that was never out of his hand even when he was lying on the ground alone or when disinfectant was applied on his face. He was holding onto it like he wouldn’t let go of it even if he died.

It was a small music box wrapped in a transparent case.

I marveled at what looked like an old antique.

It’s not easy to see a music box these days!

“Oh, you like these kind of things?”

The child’s face turned red.

“…that’s right, don’t judge me of my bad taste.”

Maybe people don’t like the idea that antiques are old. The boy was cute as he desperately tried to deny that his taste was out of line with the mainstream trend.

“No! I like these things too. Old things.”

Then the child’s eyes grew round like a rabbits. The child spoke with a raised voice.

“I-I’ve never met anyone who likes these things like me!”

“Antiques are very nice. This kind of music box also has really nice songs.”

He smiled brightly at my words but soon became sullen.

“I bought it for my brother’s birthday, but… would he like it?”

Hm. I thought for a moment.

The birthday presents that were popular among nobles theses days were generally extremely expensive and sophisticated.

For example, a neat hat with high price point and a good finish.

High end dresses made of cloth imported from across the ocean, which gave more strength to the fabric rather than the decoration.

I shrugged and spoke to the child.

“You know, I would be very happy to receive the gift. And-.”

“…?”

“If your brother likes you, he’ll like whatever gift he gets from you.”

‘If it’s the opposite and he hates you, he’ll still accept any present but without any thought.’

Once, Meldenique Vaveloa struggled to please her father. So every time, she bought something called the latest social trend and gave it to her father.

Still, she never heard a good sound.

‘I’m glad the gifts didn’t end up in the trash.’

Mixing words from my own experiences made the child’s eyes grow as if he had been enlightened. The two twinkling eyes stared at me.

“T-those deep words really impressed me…”

This baby, did he start to like me?

I grinned and patted the child’s back.

The little child, whose name was still unknown, left his head in my hand like a cat.

‘I was going to scold him, asking him what his name was, and why he got hurt, but…’

“Is the treatment over?”

“Yeah, it’s a bit sloppy though…”

Dominique nodded and stretched his legs.

I couldn’t believe that those long, slender legs belonged to the hero of the legend.

He spoke in a nonchalant way, feeling my gaze.

“The child must be tired.’

“I was going to call you a carriage right away…”

I leaned over the shoulder of the child who began to doze off with an injured body.

“Baby, do you want to go upstairs for a moment and sleep for an hour? I’ll call you a rental wagon when you wake up.”

The child nodded with his sleepy eyes. But then carefully touched my collar and whispered very quietly.

“There aren’t any ghosts up there, are there?”

“Yeah, there aren’t. If a ghost comes out, I’ll beat it up.

“…I see the knight is full of spirit. Seeing you live in a deserted house, you’re really like a knight…”

The child slowly closed his eyes tightly.

‘What do you mean abandoned… it is really shabby. I guess.’

Dominique put the asleep child on the sofa on the second floor and trudged out.

“Now, why don’t we discuss the remodeling.”

“So suddenly?”

Dominique sat on the legless chair and questioned me.

I nodded vigorously at Dominique.

“Yeah, suddenly.”

My plan was like this.

He must be attending the academy, so I’ll promote the stationary store when I send the child away.

But the building was so shabby that it seemed like public relations wouldn’t work. Besides, I can’t let a child guest leave with bad memories.

“I think it would be good to show the garden a little when we send the child away.”

“Well… it’s…”

Dominique looked away as if he couldn’t deny it.

‘…is it that bad?’

I glanced out the window and spoke. I saw thick weeds, and the damp grass that looked like a ghost could appear.

“…Let’s start by quickly cutting the grass.”

One hour later.

Dominique who was looking at me like ‘You want to use a sword like me for mowing?’ became calm.

‘Dominique… is there anything that you can’t do?’

He had an amazing talent for cutting grass. Especially, when he cut down the thick branches, I wanted to praise him as the God of flowers.

“Don’t you think it’s gotten clean?”

“It has.”

Dominique stretched his shoulders and leaned against the tree.

“Ah, right. Mel.”

“Yeah?”

“I said there were three guys watching us out there, right?”

“…yeah.”

I was nervous.

“When I carried the child, I brainwashed them slightly. I was going to report it to my master.”

Dominique raised his sword and lightly mowed the grass.

I could hear the branches falling down to the ground.

Dominique spoke, looking at me squatting down pulling weeds.

“Well… It’s not really protecting, but you can just think of it as a surprise present.”

He must hate Lennox. He’s always grumbling about him.

I nodded and smiled.

“Yeah, you did well!”

“Sigh… I think I’m tired because it’s been a long time. Even though I stood still for the brainwashing magic.”

“You did well, Dominique. Let’s eat meat later!”

I gave him a thumbs up.

Dominique, who was weak with praises, put his sword down trying not to smile.

“Hm hm. Now let’s get this dangerous-looking branch out of here.”

As I watched him look up at the tree, and I smiled.

‘Is it because it’s been so long time since he’s used magic? He’s so excited.’

It was when Dominique was turning his back.

There was a strange crunching sound from the grass.

‘What is it?’

I took a look around.

‘There’s nothing suspicious… He also brainwashed the three of them.’

But it was strangely creepy.

I looked around.

‘Huh? I think I can see something from the sword.’

I lowered my gaze.

The black sword that was on the ground began to wobble.

I crawled toward the cherry trees and Dominique, tightly holding onto his arm.

“…Dominique?”

“Yeah?”

“About that sword.”

“Yeah? You mean me who’s good at pruning, Dominique’s sword?”

Dominique was humming and picking cherries.

I clasped Dominique’s arm and tried to bring it up that the sword was strange.

‘Huh? I can’t speak.’

Strangely, my mouth was shut tight. And unfortunately, the sword was moving faster.

From the ground, a smoldering black energy flowed from behind Dominique’s back.

Pang!

With a loud noise, the air became frantically cold.

I was still speechless, watching a lump of smoke stick out of the sword and forming a shape.

“Why was the seal released?”

Dominique bit his lips as if he was a failure.
