"We are in danger!" Bastiodon cried out, "A large Pokémon underground is moving quickly in our direction."
Before Alex or the other Pokémon could react, a large Onix burst out of the ground just 50 meters away from Alex's group.
It brought its remaining body out of the underground and stood there, keeping an eye on Alex's group.

If this other trainer also has a powerful Psychic-type Pokémon, Alex was not ready to take this risk and severely restrict his escape options.
It is much easier to escape a powerful Psychic-Type Pokémon if you are far away from it or have already prepared a [Teleport].
As long as a Champion-level Psychic doesn't suddenly come from the Pokéball of its trainer and interrupts, Alex can always escape.
