[The Curtain Falls]

The enormous energy Asanaga Ayako produced rushed out of the underground facility, directly hitting the building above the ground.

The energy that exploded the Obsius Co. with a thunderous sound thrust straight through it like a white pillar in the night sky, illuminating the surrounding area as brightly as noon for a few seconds.

Naturally, the members of the Thieves Guild who were exploring the underground facility also got caught up, resulting in a considerable number of casualties.

Fortunately, probably because the explosion occurred in an underground facility, most of its destructive power was concentrated upwards, there was almost no damage to the surrounding area due to the explosion itself.

However, the debris of the exploded company flew to the surrounding buildings, causing many damages, but miraculously there was no harm to civilians.

“Ahh~, heave…ho! Phew. Who would’ve thought she would blew herself up, so showy.” (Sanuki)

Sanuki Shoichiro appeared aboveground while pushing away the rubble of the destroyed Obsius Co. and blowing away the rising black smoke with a swing of his ōdachi.

His upper body was engraved with many lacerations and not a few burns, making him looked to be covered in blood all over.

Some parts of his body were black like charcoal, and a part of his thigh had a ‘chip’ as if the flesh had been gouged.

Even if he was the ‘Sword Saint’, when viewed from the side, his condition looked so bad it was doubtful whether his body were still functioning properly.

However, he did not make even a frown and just thought about the result of the battle while relaxing his body slightly.

“After all, there was no way to avoid it in such enclosed space. The opponents have also run away…which reminds me, is the boy alive?” (Sanuki)

Having spitted out a blood clot from his mouth, Sanuki carried his ōdachi on his shoulder, threw away the handle of the straight sword whose blade had been destroyed, and scanned the surroundings.

The ‘Obsius Co.’ that should have been aboveground had collapsed without a trace.

Fires rose from places other than where Sanuki stood, and from a distance could be heard the hurried footsteps of knights in metal armor.

Sanuki, thinking that it would be a hassle to explain the matter, found a figure treading on the rubble, approaching him.

“Heeey, so you’re safe. Good, good.” (Sanuki)

“…You sure sounds fine despite the look.”

“Iyaa, it was though, so though, in fact, I couldn’t avoid getting my whole body injured.” (Sanuki)

“Well said.”

The one responded to Sanuki with a slight dismay in his voice was the skinheaded guy, a member of the Thieves Guild.

Having been able to escape from the explosion because he was waiting outside to monitor the surrounding area, he was the person who was able to act earliest immediately after the explosion.

“Can you still use potions?”

“Better than nothing, but at my age, they ain’t that effective anymore. Give ‘em to the other, younger lot.” (Sanuki)

Sanuki laughed and refused the highest potion glittering in scarlet that the man took out.

As everyone knew, potions were items that restored a character’s HP, and were useful medicines that healed all injuries.

In this world where humans kept challenging the outside of the walls and dungeons, potions were friends that had been supporting them in their battles for many years.

With their power, one could imitate Sakurai’s – simply insane – way to gain battle experience that he had once went through, that was to continue challenging the ‘Sword Saint’.

They had been permeating the society as a great aid to the point that they contributed to delaying the development of surgical technology in this world.

However, on the other hand, potions had a certain disadvantage, their effect faded with age

Although there differences depending on the individual, their healing ability began to decline on people around the age of 30, and over 40, the effectiveness dropped to the point where it was difficult to heal even a minor injury. Sanuki who was advanced in age was no exception to this.

To the current him, no matter how high the grade of the potion was, it was like throwing water on a hot stone.

“However.”

“I told you, no worries.” (Sanuki)

Of course, the man also knew that fact.

The reason why he didn’t back down despite that was sentiment.

Maybe he didn’t want to see even a little bit possibility that the living legend, the ‘Sword Saint’, would collapse.

Whether or not he knew that, Sanuki lowered his eyebrows slightly and asked the man the question he was curious about,

“By the way, is my disciple alive? It seems to be quite a mess here.” (Sanuki)

“Yes, surprisingly. He flew head first into a nearby house from the impact of the explosion, but…he survived despite that.”

The man replied and muttered, “Like master, like disciple.”

After the explosion, the personnel who could move checked for damage to the surrounding area and rescued the survivors, during that, Sakurai was found with his head stuck in a house.

Perhaps because the house that he was blown into was an old wooden one, the aged wood acted as a cushion that reduced the impact; although he was in a serious condition with a severe bleeding on his head, it didn’t seem to be life-threatening.

Then, Sakurai was sprinkled with a cheap potion to close his wounds, and afterward taken to a nearby hospital. Hearing that details, Sanuki laughed, amused.

“Hahaha, I see, I see. Well, all’s well as long as he’s alive.” (Sanuki)

“He’s your disciple…right? Aren’t you treating him a bit sloppily?”

“That much is just right up his alley, y’know. So what about the traitor you were aiming for?” (Sanuki)

“We were able to collect him without any problems. We managed to recover most of the items he stole, but since his jaw was broken, it would take some time to make him vomit everything, including the incident this time.”

“I see I see. It’s good that the boy’s information is useful.” (Sanuki)

“…Hey, ‘Sword Saint’. Just who the heck is that boy? Why do a low-class student from the academy has such an accurate grasp on an information that even we don’t know of?”

For the man, this incident was so sudden, like a bolt out of the blue, so to speak.

A young man who suddenly appeared in the Thieves Guild along with the ‘Sword Saint’ talked about not only the whereabouts of Yang Lan, but also the incident that was going to occur at the opera house and the existence of evil organization, its perpetrator.

Normally, it would have been laughed off as a joke, but since he was introduced by the ‘Sword Saint’ who had done numerous meritorious deeds, they had no choice but to listen to the story in order to give him face.

When they sent a person to investigate it just in case, the information was found to be credible as Yang Lan was actually lurking in the opera house.

Even though they didn’t know from where he did get the information, since the story of the boy, the source of information, was found to be credible, though slightly, as the Thieves Guild, they had no choice but to act.

Even if the rest of the information was in fact unfounded, the one about Yang, who used the status of the Thieves Guild to steal one of the national treasures, ‘Perverse Water and Sky Barrier (legendary item)’, from the nation’s treasury was definitely true.

“Who knows. Even I had no clue about it. He’s always been the kind of guy who does strange things, so maybe he got it by some strange coincidence?” (Sanuki)

“Now that’s just nonsense.”

“Anyways, you guys gonna have difficult days ahead, so just leave the matter about the boy for a while.” (Sanuki)

“Man, how could a simple crack down blown into such a serious matter.”

While remembering about the documents found in the underground in the progress report, the man muttered.

A part of the ‘demonization technology’ left in the documents.

A technology that could be called innovative that allowed one to obtain mighty power without the need for long training if one were to close their eyes to humanity and ethics, if a part of the men from knight order got to know about it, they would definitely kill to get it.

However, if that technology was applied to a person who only cared about their own self-interest such as Yang Lan.

If a mentally immature person with unforged heart gained a great power.

As a person acting to protect the current order, he could only imagine a horrible future that would be unpleasant just to think about.

In addition, there was a list of dignitaries and prominent figures of the nation that cooperated in the development of the technology, it was clear as day that these would develop into troublesome situations if not handled carefully.

Simply reporting the truths as they were might endanger the men of the Thieves Guild. He had to think about who to report and how.

“Anyways, I’ll leave the rest to you. It’s been so long since I had worked this hard, I’m tired.” (Sanuki)

“There is a wagon that hasn’t been destroyed nearby. Let me take you to it.”

“Well, thanks. Then, shall I clean up this mess as a service?” (Sanuki)

After saying so, Sanuki purposefully walked on the rubble while swinging his ōdachi.

The released sword wind blasted away the black smoke and extinguished the raging fires.

While the man was amazed at the ridiculous way to extinguish the fires, he was troubled on how to response to the knights who were about to arrive.
