Casualperv I'd like to clarify something. Itzcoatl will NOT in any way impede, delay or otherwise mess with Sen'o's harem. He is a team member, not Mr. Steal Your Girl. There will be no NTR in this story, it's not my vibe.

We found the library with ease. Giant stone doors loomed over us as we walked through the decorated threshold. Carvings that portrayed a sleeping beast dreaming of a splendorous mountain. Littered with flora and fauna, hollowed by sprawling caverns, and covered in pure white snow at its towering peak.

The massive floor piece held my attention for a while as it did Safi’s. Eventually someone nudged past us as we stood dazedly in the middle of the doorway.

We tore our eyes away and approached a large desk, behind which perched a couple of smart looking Elder’s. The way they looked at us over their glasses with slightly raised eyebrows assured me we were nothing but a nuisance to them.

“Hello Elders, we are new disciples here to procure our first techniques,” I said with purposeful formality.

“Show me your badge,” said one of them. I handed him the badge given to me by Master Laaka. I managed to raise his eyebrow when he recognised the symbol it bore. I was satisfied with that. He handed it back, I took a closer look at the design. It was a little creature with dull eyes and an ugly face.

“You may proceed. You will stay silent in the library, you will respect the halls and the books but most importantly you will respect the knowledge that is available to you,” he said with a long droning voice. I could see Safi receiving a similar treatment from the other Elder.

We made our escape before they trapped us with more speeches. Or worse, rules. With strict instruction to stay quiet and fully intent on doing so, we parted ways. I needed the Eyes of the mountain god technique, the one Master Laaka had specifically requested me get. She needed something else, and it was her responsibility to choose it, me holding her hand at every step of the way would not do either of us any good.

The techniques were sorted by type first, then alphabetical. It did not take me long to find the desired section, then the technique itself. I had been inside plenty of libraries in my lifetime so although this sort of magnificent scale could intimidate Safi, I was more than comfortable exploring the vast shelves. I found a place to sit, then began to read.

The technique was incomplete, unsurprisingly. I was almost entirely sure the majority of the techniques available here would be.

I was familiar with this particular one, it was a poorly reimagined variant of a far-superior technique of the same name. If I was going to practice an eye technique I had no qualms with it being this one. Granted, it was technically not the one they intended for me to practice.

Then I looked for an offensive bow technique. I did not want to stand out for using techniques not recognised by the sect. I drifted through the library, spying several techniques that I recognised, a few that surprised me. The fact that such esteemed names had made it here meant that perhaps this world was not as isolated as I had thought.

I found the section for bow techniques. It was a guild of hunters, I had to remind myself as I stared at the ridiculous volume of scrolls, tomes, and books. I began to peruse, hoping I could find something that benefitted my illusion-based style of combat.

I searched for a long time, the vast majority leaned heavily towards flashy, large impact techniques. After a long time, I noticed a name that caught my eye, despite the fact that I did not recognise it.

“Imaginary arrow?” I pondered out loud. It was a beautiful book, a lush teal cover; tastefully embellished by yellow borders. The pages were pristine. It’s spine almost entirely uncracked. I opened it.

‘For wilder storms, for thicker skin. An arrow of conventional means falls short. Swept away, or tossed aside. Rather an arrow that abides by no rules; is hindered by nought but the one shooting it. An arrow that exists not, until blood is already spilled. An imaginary arrow, until real.’

It was at least enough to keep me reading. I liked the sound of an arrow with such an impudent nature. It sounded illusory enough, it certainly warranted further reading.

I realised then, that I had an identity to discover. It was around the right time to find out who robbed me from the woman I fought with the day before. Luckily Safi was waiting for me. She was leaning against the huge doorway with her legs crossed. She was reading a book, completely absorbed. It took until I was standing in front of her for her to notice me.

“Took you long enough,” she complained as she snapped the book closed with one hand.

“I guess I am picky,” I said with a shrug.

“Told you…”

“Let’s go, I have to meet that lady.”

“Lady?” asked Safi.

“The one I asked to find out who robbed us,” I explained, surprised she had forgotten so easily.

“Oh right!” she said, smacking her forehead. “That was yesterday, it feels like so much has happened since then.”

We found her outside the gym, pacing back and forth. When she noticed me, she shoved a piece of parchment into my hands then stormed off.

“I don’t think she likes you…” quipped Safi.

“What gave you that impression?” I asked jokingly as I unfurled the crinkled parchment.

“Itzcoatl, room 428” I read out loud. “Shall we meet the culprit?” I asked Safi.

“Sure, but what do you plan on doing with them?”

“Recruit them, of course.”
