I pushed myself up, his words reflected his intention and his presence here meant he had something to do with the array keeping Milly incapacitated. I was on guard immediately but I was well aware of the fact that he was a Grand Elder and before him, I was a mild inconvenience at most.

“Stand aside, Safi. Unless you want to die?” I was under no illusions that he was going to kill me regardless, he only wanted to reset the array as every second that Milly was free, she recovered more and more qi.

I knew that if I was going to make any meaningful delays, I was going to have to take him by surprise. Which meant standing aside for now, let him think that I had given up.

He landed without a sound and I stood aside to not interrupt his march toward Milly. As soon as I was beside him I lunged out, my hand became as sharp as the Losty’s talons. It was aimed at his rib cage and should have been obscured from vision.

In the short moment of elation before my shot landed, he moved so quickly that a blink blinded me. Before I knew it, he had a hold of my arm and qi pressed down on me in the form of a large black and blue blanket that smothered my movement and even my breathing.

“You’re not very good at this…” He sighed. “I think I would have been more ‘surprised’ by your surprise attack if you had told me you were going to do it.”

His mocking aside, I was in a terrible position. I called upon Losty, it was definitely not a preferable manoeuvre as he was my main method of delay but now he was relegated to making up for my mistake.

He dive bombed from nothingness with his much more ferocious talons that he had far more experience with than I did. Grand Elder Fred ignored him at first but Losty put a large hole in his blanket and he was forced to take notice.

I used the moment to twist his arm around and wrench myself free from his upside down hand. Losty was quickly engulfed by the blanket himself but I unsummoned him.

Grand Elder Fred looked increasingly irate as the fish he thought to be an easy catch splashed defensively. I was not doing anything meaningful but making time and he was aware of the fact. He took me more seriously now and approached me this time. I summoned Losty again, having gained far more qi, I was able to keep him outside of my dantian for much longer.

Unfortunately, my shallow understanding of Lonely Whispers meant he was heavily neutered in terms of the power he could output. He divebombed the Elder once again and I moved in for a simultaneous attack but, like a petulant child in front of a raging parent, I stood no chance in a battle. His blanket dissipated Losty and consumed me. It robbed me of breath once again and this time I could feel that it was not going to let go.

He was keeping me alive, probably to find out if anyone else knew about Milly. He approached Milly.

I went inside my dantian. “How much qi do you have?” I asked the miniature Milly.

“A lot,” she said simply. Understanding that there was no time to dawdle in conversation.

“Give me all of it.” She nodded and I felt a huge amount of the luscious golden qi within her dantian become available to me. It would not have been possible without her becoming my partner.

I expended my own qi to fight the blanket and although my pathetic wrestling did nothing to weaken it, I did manage to grasp a hold of Grand Elder Fred’s robe as he walked by me.

I pulled him and quickly placed my palm up to him. I knew I did not have the luxury to pour the qi, I could only empty myself of it instantly. Almost every drop of Milly’s overwhelming amounts of qi was pushed through my body and into my arm to suddenly explode everything into Grand Elder Fred.

Qi invading the body was not damaging by itself but… Teteli’s exploding rocks looked cute in comparison to the catastrophe of a human being being blown to bits.

It was so sudden, he was there and then, he was not. Bits of him covered my arm which was the only part of me not shrouded by the blanket. It covered the walls of the hole and poor Milly had her beautiful black scales stained with red.

I let the blanket slowly fade away as I became aware of a dull aching pain in my arm. I looked down to find it now lacking a hand to adorn the end of it. My pursuit of maximum qi ejection speed was too much for my flesh.

I was strangely at ease at the idea of missing a hand as it was a whole lot better than missing my life.

Although, the bleeding needed to be stopped otherwise my life was still in danger.

Milly shuffled around to get my attention. “Come here, quickly.” I walked over and showed her my arm. She bent over and stuck her massive tongue out of her mouth.

I thought the idea of her licking it better was quite funny until her tongue touched me and a searing pain jolted me into a scream. I looked at the wound and she had cauterised it. It was probably all she could manage with the puny amount of qi she had left.

“Thanks,” I managed to utter. I was fighting to stay conscious.

“I also would like to thank you. But, you should rest first.” She was right, I needed to sleep. I crawled atop her arms which she had gracefully offered me and let my body pass out from the pain and the lack of any qi.

Casualperv Ah… Finally, the pay off to Teteli’s rock breaking :D
