“Your Majesty”

It was right after Kurst and the king returned to the office that the voice called from the corridor.

“I’m Schyle Killing. I’ve come to report today.”
“Come in.”

When the king answered, the doorknob moved faster than Kurst could open it from the inside. The person who entered the office lightly glanced at Kurst standing nearby, then stepped forward in front of the king with a clear face.
His rudeness was the usual, so Kurst went back to the back of the room as if nothing had happened.

Kurst didn’t understand. He finds himself regarded one-sidedly as a rival by Schyle.
Since the two were close in family background and age, they were often compared to each other since they were little, so Schyle has been conscious of Kurst ever since he can remember.
Armed with a sword, education, knowledge, and good looks. For Schyle, who was confident in his ability, Kurst, who easily surpassed him, was irritated. He could not help feeling jealous and competitive.

On the other hand, Kurst was aware that he was hated by Schyle for some reason, but he didn’t care much about his obstinate personality since long ago.
However, unfortunately Kurst didn’t realize that it was also fueling Schyle’s frustration, saying, ‘I’m so conscious of it, but he doesn’t care at all!’

“Did the made make any new statements?”

The king asks while sitting on a chair by the window. Schyle, who was facing him across the heavy desk, shook his head saying ‘No’ to that question.

“The statement remains the same as before.”
“Is there a motive for the crime?”
“Yes. It seems she couldn’t allow the concubine to be blessed with a boy, leaving the queen. The more I talk to that maid, the more I understand how much she loved the queen. No. I guess you could call it worship. This incident is probably the result of that feeling running wild.”

Hearing Schyle’s story, the king closed his eyes and let out a small sigh.

The maid in question was originally from a lower-ranking noble family, but she led a rather tragic life, saying that her parents failed in their business and fell into disrepair, and when she was fourteen she was sold to a large merchant in the capital.

But that’s where the real tragedy begins. She was sold to a middle-aged merchant who made her a plaything.
She was given beautiful dresses and appeared in the glamorous social world with a big merchant, but behind the scenes she was treated much worse than a cheap prostitute.

And it was the queen who saved her.
When the queen exchanged greetings with the merchant at an evening party held by a certain noble, she noticed that the eyes of the girl he was accompanying were dark and emotionless.
The girl’s tragic circumstances came to the fore, and it seems that the queen couldn’t help but help her as a woman.

The girl who entered the castle under the custody of the queen four years ago worked and healed her wounded mind and body as a maid, but at the same time she devoted herself quietly and deeply to the queen who saved her.
And for such a maid, the concubine’s pregnancy must have been unforgivable. It doesn’t matter if the Queen is happy about it.
The maid tried to kill the concubine and the child in accordance with her feelings of ‘queen supremacy’.

Both Kurst and the king knew of her, who had always stood behind the Queen, but they only had the image of aa quiet and capable maid, and never thought that she would cause such an incident.
Even the Queen, who was closest to her, could not see through to the bitter feelings that were hidden in the maid’s heart.

“How did she get the poison?”

The king asks bluntly. That dangerous abortion drug is no longer a drug. It’s just poison.
Schyle held the report in one hand, but without looking at it, he turned his face to the king and spoke.

“The statement about that has not changed either. She bought it from the pharmacist Roche Ghoul. . .”

It’s not like Schyle and the other knights are taking the story of the maid with a grain of salt. They think she may be lying and are looking for other ways to get it.
However, from the first interrogation, her story was consistent, and the knights had to pursue Roche more severely.

“So, the pharmacist still refuses to admit the charges?”
“Yes. I also mentioned the name of the maid, but he said, ‘I don’t know such a woman, I’ve never made an abortion drug.'”

Kurst listened silently to their exchange. If Kurst, who had no involvement in this matter, interjected poorly, he would be stared at by Schyle.
He hasn’t received any orders from the king to join the investigation, so he has no choice but to concentrate on his work as a royal guard and leave the incident to Schyle and the others.
Kurst, who didn’t know that Shiori was one of the suspects and was imprisoned in the prison, took it easy.

“If there is anything new to report. . .”

Schyle paused as if hesitating to say it. Kurst also pays attention to his unusual character, which is always full of confidence.

“It’s not much information, and it’s not necessary for His Majesty to hear it. . .”

He has to report it, but he doesn’t want to say too much. Schyle stutters.

“Okay, say it. In order to prevent a similar incident from happening again, report even trivial information about this matter to me.”

However, when prompted by the king, Schyle opened his mouth in resignation. He lowers his gaze to the record and speaks quickly.

“I have learned that Roche Ghoul had a subordinate. She is still a young woman. Right now, she is being held on the ground floor of the prison. It’s only been two months since she started working as a pharmacist, so I don’t think she has anything to do with this incident.”

I don’t want to go too far into this matter. Even if I make a mistake, I don’t want to receive an order like ‘Pursue harder’. Feeling that kind of air from Schyle, Kurst felt a slight surprise.
While thinking about rude things such as whether he also had human feelings that he didn’t want to ask a woman a tough question.
When speaking of Schyle, there was an image of a cold-hearted person who doesn’t get carried away by emotions.

“Then today, I searched Roche Ghoul’s shop and seized various drugs and documents that could be used as evidence. That’s where I am.”

Schyle ended the topic of the woman early and changed the subject.

“I see, then continue analyzing the confiscated items. . . By the way, did you find out what the abortion drug the maid used was? What about the analysis of the leftover tea leaves?”
“Yes, we have continued with that, but we have not been able to pinpoint the name of the medicinal herb that was used for the tea leaves. The maid said she didn’t know the type of herb because she only bought it from Roche Ghoul as an abortifacient.”
“Hm”

After nodding once, the king said, “Thank you for your hard work,” and made Schyle step back. Just before Schyle left the room, Kurst,

“If you don’t have enough hands, we the first squad will always cooperate.”

He tried calling out,

“I have enough hands, so you guys don’t have to come out.”

It was so bitterly returned. Schyle raises his chin as if to show off and goes out into the hallway.

“You two are the same as always.”
“I don’t remember doing anything to make people hate me, but. . .”

Kurst tilts his head while replying to the wry smile of the king.

“I will go the the Queen and rest. It’s time for you to change guards.”
“Yes”

And Kurst, who knew nothing, ended the day’s work peacefully.

Meanwhile, Shiori lies alone on a hard bed in an almost prison-like detention room. She wraps the blanket around her and tries to sleep, but her anxiety and the cold have made her blind.
After finishing the interrogation, the blonde knight Schyle showed unexpected kindness and gave her another blanket, but she still couldn’t wipe away the chill. At this time of year when the season changed to winter, the unheated stone room was cold.
A small ventilation window installed high on the wall lets in the cold air from outside, and it caresses Shiori’s cheeks.
This room, as well as the building itself, is so quiet that it hurts my ears. There should be a guard, but I can’t feel the presence of anyone outside the corridor, which makes me feel very uneasy.
Feeling alone in the world.

Perhaps due to the effect of the ‘humble strategy’, Schyle’s attitude softened, and the interrogation was not harsh. Besides, he didn’t deny Shiori’s statement, and it seems he believed it to some extent.
However, the fact that she is still being confined here means that his suspicions have not yet been cleared. Shiori thought so and sighed.

She tossed and turned and recalled the story that Schyle told. Shiori wanted to hold her head because she and Roche were involved in a bigger situation than she expected.
When I was in Japan, I thought that using poison to assassinate someone was only a story in movies and novels. . .

A lady-in-waiting to the queen tried to force the concubine, who was pregnant with the king’s child, to take abortion drugs and cause her to have a miscarriage.
If that’s all, it’s nothing to do with Shiori, it’s an incident that happened inside the castle.
However, the captured maid named Roche as the person who she bought the abortion drugs from, and as a result, he was detained. And even Shiori, who works at his shop, is suspected of being an accomplice.
I want to cry.

The ‘Roche’ that the maid named was the same as Shiori’s familiar ‘Roche’. That’s the thing. . ., since he’s thought to be a suspect involved in such a serious incident, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be able to get out of here easily.

I wonder if Roche is also in this building?
It was a little reassuring to think that way, but in the dark and cold room, the positive feelings quickly dissipated. The insecurity soon returned.

“Kurst. . .”

Murmuring a single word.
Imagining him in the darkness of the night, she tries to being herself out of her depressed feelings.
But now, when she thinks of Kurst, a beautiful princess always appears next to him. A perfect beauty, she is always close to Kurst in Shiori’s imagination.

Are they spending time together while I’m here alone?
When she thought that, her chest was crushed tightly. Not jealous, just sad.
The feeling of loss that Kurst belongs to someone else is almost overwhelming.

I feel bad for Shiori. First transported to a strange world, then she can’t even get in contact with the one person who knows her because no one believes her, and now she is suspected of being an accomplice to the attempted murder of royalty. And her life in the other world wasn’t that great either. Does she just have serious bad luck or something?
