In the end, Shiori hardly slept until the next morning. The detention room, which only receives a faint amount of sunlight, is dim even in the early morning when it is sunny, and the sense of time is dulled. If I stayed here all the time, my internal clock would go crazy.

There is no toilet in the room, so she has no choice but to ask someone who seems to be the jailer to take her there. It’s impossible to take a bath, but they can bring a cloth that has been wetted with water and wrung out.
Shiori wiped her face with the cloth and ate the simple meal that was served. She doesn’t have an appetite, but if she doesn’t eat, her strength and willpower will drop.

After breakfast, Shiori began to waist time, and Schyle arrived just in time.
Even his dull blond hair seems to sparkle this morning. For Shiori, who is confined in a dim room, everyone who comes from outside feels dazzling.
It hasn’t even been a day since I was put here, but I already miss the sun.

“Did you sleep well last night?”

Shiori shrugged her shoulders, saying, “Not much.”
However, in her heart, she wondered if this kindness of Schyle was the effect of the ‘humble strategy’. Where did the arrogant man I met at the store go?
Schyle hesitantly continued.

“. . . I see. I’d like to hear a little more from today, are you okay?”
“It’s okay. Talking is distracting.”

Even if it’s an interrogation.
If I don’t talk to him and prove my innocence, I can’t leave here forever.
The chairs were placed facing each other just like yesterday, and Shiori and the others sat there. A knight with paper and pen comes in and stands by the wall. Schyle quietly started asking questions.

“If you were to make an abortion drug, what materials would you use and how would you make it?”

After thinking for a moment, Shiori shook her head in resignation.

“I don’t know. Which medical herbs should I use. . .”

The only reason Shiori, an amateur, can make medicine is because of Roche’s recipe. She tries to think of various herbs and their uses that she’s dealt with, but she doesn’t even know if any of them can be used as an abortifacient. I haven’t reached the level where I can synthesize medicine by myself yet.

“Now look at this.”

What was presented was a small amount of medicinal herb leaves wrapped in a thin cloth. It seems to have been dried and crimpled into small pieces, but it is not shredded or powdered, so it retains its original shape to some extent.
Shiori picked it up with her fingers and examined it carefully.

“This is?”
“It’s leftovers from the abortion drugs that the concubine drank. It was brought by the criminal maid as a rare tea leaf. Have you ever seen this in your shop? Did you see Roche Ghoul making it?”

To be honest, all the dried medicinal leaves have similar shapes, and Shiori can’t tell them apart unless they’re unique.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. I also haven’t seen Roche making it.”
“Then, do you know the name of this medicinal herb? Actually, we haven’t been able to identify the name of this medicinal herb yet.”
“Uh-huh, I don’t know. . . I’m sorry.”
“No need to apologize.”

Shiori couldn’t help but be bewildered by Schyle’s gentle voice. It wasn’t that the ‘strategy’ worked, but maybe he hit his head somewhere? And he seems to have changed so much that I’m worried.
Even though she was agitated, she tried to smell the leaves. It doesn’t seem to have been fermented or roasted, and the grassy smell of the medicinal herb itself remains, but it’s a scent that doesn’t stand out.

“Did you show this to Roche? He might know the name of this medicinal herb.”

Roche’s knowledge of medicinal herbs is formidable. I’m sure he knows more kinds than the old pharmacist who has been doing this for decades. Not satisfied with what he has now, he actively incorporates medicinal herbs from overseas.
Schyle says,

“No, I didn’t show it. Actually, I didn’t give that man very detailed information.”
“. . . . Why?”
“We are aiming for him to inadvertently utter information that only the person concerned can know. I’ve only said to Roche Ghoul that ‘a maid put poison in the concubine’s tea’.”

But if Roche knew that the tea leaves themselves were poisonous-rather than mixing liquid or powdered poison into the tea-or if he knew the shape of the tea leaves, the suspicion that he sold abortion drugs to the handmaiden would deepen.
Roche seems to be under more serious suspicion than myself. Shiori thought so and frowned at him.

“Why didn’t you do it for me?”

She wondered and asked Schyle.

“According to the criminal maid’s testimony, she bought the abortion medicine from Roche Ghoul about three months ago. It seems that it took some time to put the plan into action when she waited for an opportunity while watching the consort’s condition. You weren’t at Roche Ghoul’s place three months ago, were you? You didn’t know, and you’re pretty much cleared of the suspicion of selling her abortion drugs.”

However, there are still suspicions that she was manufacturing and selling drugs, including abortion drugs, under Roche Ghoul. . . Schyle continued awkwardly.
And according to him, he didn’t give Roche any details about the maid. He didn’t tell him, but if he knew her hair color, it would be suspicious.

“How can we clear your suspicions?”

Shiori looked at Schyle pleadingly.
Schyle flinched at that gaze, eyes watering.

“Kuh, I’m in the process of investigating the items I collected from your store yesterday. . . If there is no evidence that you were making abortion drugs or illegal drugs, you will be released for the time being.”
“How long does it take to check the store?”
“Because the amount is large, it is impossible in one or two days.”
“No way. . .”

Shiori shrugged. She doesn’t want to be here for a minute or a second more, she said.
This stone-enclosed room has a strange sense of oppression, and the constant darkness makes you feel depressed. It’s cold, hard, and gloomy. . . If you spend a week here, you’ll get claustrophobic.
What if it took months to investigate what was confiscated from the store? She shuddered at the thought.

“. . .Don’t be discouraged. I will instruct my subordinates to finish the investigation as soon as possible.”

Schyle’s words didn’t reach Shiori, who rubbed her arm with a gloomy expression.
I can’t even take a bath or go to the bathroom freely for days in a place like this. . . I feel depressed. And from now on, the cold will increase in severity.

“If you say that talking is distracting. . . I, I will come here every day. . . heh, I’ll come to see you.”

If it snows, I wonder if I’ll freeze to death here.
Shiori’s face turned pale at that thought.

“If you have any trouble, you can rely on me anytime.”

Should I get another blanket? I wonder if there’s a convenient heating device that uses magic.

“Just to be clear, I’m not always this tolerant of suspects.”

A lot of cold air comes in from the small ventilation window, doesn’t it? When it’s cold, it would be nicer to cover it with a wooden board or something.

“Because of you, ah, you’re being kind to me. . . that means that. . .”
“Oi, selfishly. . .!”

While Shiori was thinking about how to deal with the cold, and Schyle was blushing while talking to himself, an angry voice suddenly came from the back of the hallway. Shiori and Schyle both lifted their heads and turned their gazes towards the corridor.

Two men were probably walking toward them from the entrance of the building while arguing with each other and making a clattering sound of footsteps.
One of them seemed to be the jailer guarding this building, trying to stop a man who entered without permission. The two stopped in front of the door of Shiori’s room and continued arguing.

“Noisy.”

Schyle stands up with an annoyed look. He furrowed his brow, opened the door, and scolded the people outside the hallway.

“Shut up. What the hell are you doing, you idiots?”

Shiori felt a sense of relief in his haughty and arrogant tone. Oh, good thing you didn’t hit your head, she said.

“I’m sorry.”

The prison guard apologized, but Shiori’s gaze focused on the man standing in front of him. He is tall with brown hair and looks like he’s in the basketball club.

“The gatekeeper. . .”

She let her voice out.
And in response to that voice, the gatekeeper in the corridor also found Shiori in the room.

“. . . !”

When he saw Shiori trapped in the room, he held his breath again in surprise.
Schyle blocks the gatekeeper, who unconsciously tried to enter inside, with one hand. He grabbed him by the shoulders and pushed him back hard. Seeing that the gatekeeper’s gaze had shifted to himself, Schyle began to speak. So grandiose.

“What is your name and affiliation? What are you here for?”

Schyle doesn’t seem to know about the gatekeeper, but the gatekeeper seems to know about Schyle, for he flinched slightly in confrontation with him.
Even though his expression stiffened, the gatekeeper looked back at Schyle and said,

“I’m Parker Cork from the Guard. I know her. . .”

Shiori’s eyes blinked, “Eh?” Did he come here because of me? And.
Schyle raises an eyebrow questioningly.

“Acquaintance? What kind of acquaintance?”
“No, umm, you could call me an acquaintance. . . a little bit of an acquaintance. . .”

Schyle snorted at the words of the gatekeeper who lost momentum.

“So you don’t know much?”
“. . . , but I don’t think she’s a bad person. It’s not like she’s involved in this incident. . .”

Shiori rolled her eyes. Apparently he came to defend her.
He seems to be a surprisingly nice person for lending me his overcoat when it was raining.
Even though we’ve only talked to each other twice. . . and even though I’ve only been bothering him by telling him to ‘let me meet Kurst’. Shiori was even moved by his kindness.
On the other hand, Schyle’s mood only gets worse.

“If you’re going that far, do you have nay evidence? Evidence to prove her innocence.”
“No, no, the evidence it. . .”

Do your best, Gatekeeper-san! Shiori cheered in her heart, but at the same time, she knew that he couldn’t beat Schyle.
It doesn’t matter what the evidence is, I can’t imagine the scene where he beats Schyle in the first place.
The gatekeeper’s body is bigger, but mentally it doesn’t seem like he can win. It’s just that Schyle has a bad personality and is likely to speak up.

“Don’t say random things without evidence. Did you just come here with momentum? Do you think you can get her released with just that? Why don’t you use your head before you act on your emotions?”

See, Shiori smiled wryly. Hearing Schyle’s rapid succession of words, the gatekeeper muttered “Uh. . .” and was just beaten. It’s getting pitiful.
I was so happy that you tried to protect me, so it’s enough. If there was a towel here now, Shiori would have thrown it at the gatekeeper.

“If you have time to do something stupid, get back to your post. Don’t bring your personal feelings into work.”
“Uh. . . yes, sorry. . .”

Kankankan and the gong rang, and the gatekeeper’s heart broke. Because what he is saying is correct.
Finally, the gatekeeper turned to Shiori while feeling dejected and depressed. He said sorry for not being able to help.
Shiori gave him a weak smile and whispered, “Don’t worry about it.” I don’t know if he could hear me.

She was glad that the gatekeeper tried to help her, but Shiori felt keenly that she wouldn’t be able to get out of here easily.
Even if she turned to someone-Kurst was what came to Shiori’s mind at the time-but it wasn’t easy to get someone to help her out of this situation.
However, waiting for the confiscated goods from the store to be investigated is painful because I don’t know how long it will take.
I wish there was something I could do to prove my innocence instead of just being locked up here. As Shiori thought so, she closed the iron door and appealed to Schyle, who had returned.

“Um, is there anything I can do to prove my innocence? I’ll do anything.”

She furrowed her eyebrows and pleaded earnestly.

“Even if you, the suspect, can do something. . .”

While hesitating, Schyle seems to be thinking about listening to Shiori’s appeal. After thinking with a hand on his chin, he opens his mouth in a flash.

“Then. . . let’s call the magician here.”
“Magician?”

Not understanding what it meant, Shiori tilted her head.
