As it turned out Kai wouldn't have as much space in her new room as she had thought, because as head maid Anna would of course sleep as close as possible to her. If she didn't do that she wouldn't be able to attend to Kai during the night should a problem arise.

Kai wasn't too happy about this arrangement, but it was also kind of her fault for giving Anna the idea and in the end it might be better than being alone.

Before she went to sleep Kai checked her own status or rather the status of her hive.

Nothing much had changed except for their population and the technologies they had. Kai had also managed to get the system to display the population of drones after a few tries. It would make it a lot easier for her to keep track of things that way.

The most interesting addition to her were the technologies. Additionally to the silk clothing that was annoyingly fragile they now had fire, basic stone tools, food preparation and Antanoid hand to hand combat. The technologies were all rather open-ended on what could be part of them and might not show the actual status of the Antanoid. Kai found that rather weird, but she couldn't understand how the system truly worked. It was a kingdom focused system and could possibly need a different kingdom or country to compare hers to. Things might change the moment they came in contact with other civilisations.

There were so many things they had to consider without truly having the knowledge to judge about what to do. Hopefully that would change in the future, because it annoyed her.

Kai closed her status and prepared herself for sleep.

The next day she started by laying another hunter egg. After that she had breakfast in Lena's new tavern with Anna and they met Tiffany there. They spoke over the things they had planned for the next few days and Kai also asked Tiffy to plan a few extra things that were getting necessary.

The work crew was currently busy with completing the first floor of the hive. They had to build quite the number of rooms to achieve that and the training area had to be moved.

Once they had finished that task they would start building on the second floor again. Kai requested that they build a latrine as fast as possible in between all that and maybe think about farms for plants and animals too.

The latrine was becoming pretty important with more and more hive members. Until now they had been doing their stuff like naturals, but Kai would rather not have the area around the hive smell like a sewer. They had to be careful not to pollute the groundwater in the region too.

The farms were more of a future focused project, but they had to start with that at some point. What Kai was really interested in regarding that topic, was how magic would influence farming in this reality.

If it was possible to speed up the growth process with magic, then food supply could be something people didn't have to worry all that much about.

She didn't plan for there to be hungry Antanoid either. Every single individual was important for their society and should be treated as such. If she managed to get this to work that would be incredible.

The rest of the day went by as usual for Kai. She trained with Anna and went bathing afterwards.

Artemis had a more exciting day however and managed to secure herself one of the bushes she needed for her bow. She was lucky that the trunk was relatively straight or she would have to go and look for a different bush.

As it was however she was able to work on the wood now and was next to Erika the loudest one in the hive. Banging stones on other stones was just that much louder than stone on wood.

Ember had stopped working together with Erika after a few days and had started to work on some pelt clothes. The first thing she had planned was of course for Kai and the queen had promised to let herself be suprised by the result.

All in all the day was really peaceful and things were going smoothly for the new species.

After dinner Kai layed a second egg, this time a worker egg. To lay about one egg a day had become pretty much routine for her and she was nearing the next level. It would take her another 6 eggs, which she had to admit was pretty much nothing.

She had also discovered that the thrill she got from egg laying became less the more of them she layed. It was quite similar to the food frenzies and she hoped that the urge to give birth wouldn't increase in the future.

Before she went to sleep she visited the second floor for the first time while Anna built herself a better bed than the makeshift version she had done yesterday in haste. Kai wouldn't say no to having a few minutes of the day for herself.

She sat down next to the trunk and looked up at the tree's canopy. Kai kind of missed having a clear view of the sky and especially here where there should be no light pollution the view would be incredible. She sat there for a few minutes, thinking of nothing particular and just enjoyed the weird feeling of melancholy.

When it started to get dark, Anna came looking for her and they went down to the first floor again. Kai was about to step under the cover of the second floor when all her instincts suddenly screamed at her to stop moving and she did exactly that.

It wasn't only her that felt that way, even Anna had stopped, her hands slightly shaking and you couldn't hear a sound from anywhere else.

The horrible screech of a hell moth went through the forest. This time however there was something different, this time the moth was a lot closer than any of them had ever come to the hive.

Kai realized that she was holding her breath and forced herself to slowly breathe out. Then she gently took Anna's hand to give some reassurance to the girl, even though she herself was scared shitless. She was the oldest one here however and quite responsible for everyone else.

The drones that had been in their rooms silently began to gather all around Kai as fast as possible. Kai could make out Artemis amongst a few of them with her axe in her hand. Of all the girls in the hive she had the most experience with facing giant creatures and Kai found it quite admirable how she worked through all this.

Kai was aware that the other hunters and workers were also on their way, but she would rather not have them come here. She also knew that they would sacrifice themselves for her and she wouldn't be able to live with that.

The moth screeched a second time, once again closer to their location and Kai slowly turned around to look up the tree trunk.

The horrifyingly large insect sat about 20 m above the second floor on the tree and was slowly inching downwards. Its brown body was easily larger than one of the rooms on the second floor and the four wings matched that size with an incredible length.  A multitude of mandibles was in front of the moth's closed maw and all of them were moving in a disturbing and excited way.

This was the first time Kai had seen one of them this close and she had been right about not wanting to see them up close. The moth would have scared her just because of its size, but the mandibles really made it worse.

That the moth was mostly brown and had quite the fluffy fur were about the only nice features she could see.

The insect continued to inch closer, which considering its size meant that it climbed a distance of one meter with every step. Kai watched as the moth came closer and closer, desperately trying to think of some kind of solution.

When it reached 10 meters above the second floor, Kai was able to hear the clicking of its teeth and that wasn't helping. She couldn't think of a solution that would help them out of this without anyone dying and was on the verge of having a panic attack. Just what should she do?

Kai looked around frantically for a solution to magically pop up and her gaze locked on Artemis. The idea was extremely stupid, but it might save their asses.

At the exact same moment the hell moth's gaze narrowed down on Kai's and Anna's figure and it folded its wings together faster than Kai would have thought possible before it let go of the trunk.
