Otjag I tried to hold myself back with info dumping to make the chapter a bit more enjoyable. Have fun reading!

Kai mentally prepared herself for a bit of embarrassment and thought out Status. She would not speak the words if she had to, why people always tried to do that first in fantasy stories was a mystery to her.

To her surprise though, she had some success. Only some as an uncountable amount of screens with binary code appeared and disappeared constantly. Kai was pretty sure that was not normal or why else would you even have a system?

The screens all disappeared, making place for a single new one that was actually displaying something understandable.

You are of an unique species that interacts with mana different from most other species.  As such a special system has been set in place to enable equal benefits and disadvantages for all sapient species that are part of the system.

Kai really hoped that the screen was talking about something good because she had no idea what she could compare herself to or what she even was.

There was one point that caught her attention for a bit longer though. The screen had talked about sapient species, which might not be the best thing for Kai.

She had no delusions about other sapients being nice or whatsoever. As she had seen with humans other sapients would always put their race first, so what if that meant enslaving some kind of hive species. No matter how nice the species had been you evolved from, she thought with sapience also came the other side of the coin.

Kai looked at the screen and mentally urged it to disappear. She didn’t need that much time to read two sentences.

The screen faded away and a new one appeared.

Special system: A hive for the queen and a queen for the hive

Anomalies:

Species is unable to properly manipulate its mana in gaseous mediums Species has a connection of mana similar to a hive mind in place

Kai frowned and cursed her luck. She had just been brought to a world with mana only to not be able to become a magician or at least a normal one.

She read through the info again, but didn’t know if it was good or bad. A hive mind could be something powerful, but how would she know if it evened out her disadvantages?

Kai also hoped that she was not a hivemind herself. The thought alone was terrifying to her and she didn’t want to think about it further. Having more than one body would be weird.

She dismissed the screen and a new one appeared. This one you could call a true status, though it had a few addons she had not expected.

Kai eyed her surname. That one was or at least had not been hers. Someone had also taken her idea of the Antanoid and named her species after them. Or maybe she had done it herself unconsciously?

The name of her species also confirmed her theorie about her being a hive queen, not that the name of her system had already done so.

Kai tried to ignore it and read through the rest. Her level, health and mana stats were mostly self explanatory and you could see that the latter was related to her stats somehow. The mentions of her current population and technologies could also speak for themself.

The rest of her status though completely eluded Kai. She had no idea what her stats did and couldn’t tell if having 17 points in each one was good or bad as she had nothing to compare herself to.

Following some strange impulse Kai urged her system to explain the stats to her. To her surprise it actually worked and a new screen appeared above her status window.

Str

The higher your strength stat becomes, the more you can endure and the stronger you get. Str can influence your appearance.

Kai thought about the explanation carefully. It didn’t sound all that complicated, but if she just became stronger wouldn’t it get difficult to control her strength later on?

Maybe she should inspect all stats before asking questions.

Agi

The higher your agility becomes, the more control you have over your body and the more nimble you are. This stat can influence your appearance.

Per

The higher your perception becomes, the better your senses get and the more control you have over them.

Int

The higher your intelligence becomes, the better your memory gets and the more mana your body can hold.

Wis

The higher your wisdom becomes, the faster you can think and the faster your body can convert the natural mana into yours.

Wil

The higher your willpower becomes, the more you can endure mentaly and the stronger skills utilizing mana get. The effect of Wil can rise due to Int and Wis.

So the stats balanced each other. You needed agi to control str, per to even be able to see your movement and wis to be able to work through the information of your senses fast enough and so forth. Int you needed to be able to hold the information, though wil seemed to be a bit of an outlier.

The stats sadly didn’t increase her ability to do something better directly and only gave her the chance to become better at something. No dexterity aimbot included.

Kai sighed. She couldn’t and shouldn’t look at this like a game, but because of her doing literally nothing else in her freetime it was hard not to think about games when seeing her status.

She dismissed the explanations and focused on her skills. She had no idea what they did, but the map skill sounded as cool as Kai dreaded having to lay eggs.

Lay egg

Using mana and some energy of your body you can lay an egg and give birth to a new member of your hive. The less energy of your body you use the more mana you require.

Worker

A worker is the most basic sapient member of your species and as such only have access to basic information of the hive knowledge. They are the most adaptable and can evolve into any other possible variant of the second tier once they reach level 10. Workers can give birth to and control exactly one swarm drone at any given time.

Swarm drones

Swarm drones are non sapient members of your species. Their sole purpose is to serve the sapient members.

Kai exhaled in relief. Even if she had to lay eggs she wouldn’t be surrounded by animals and she wouldn’t be alone.

She didn’t like the implication of the descriptions though. The nature of her species seemed to force them into a caste society like the one in India. The swarm drones as the lowest caste, then workers and whatever else there might be and her caste, which you could call the noble caste.

Kai was not a fan of that system, but she didn’t have a choice so she would try to form her society in a way that still saw everyone as necessary and valuable. She likely wouldn’t be able to stop swarm drones from being seen as exposable, their name already told you their use, but she would not tolerate the same with sapient members.

Kai still didn’t know how she could lay eggs, so she prodded the system to give her a bit more. What she got was a vague impression of how to do it, but nothing exact. It was more than she had known before though, so Kai didn’t complain.

She had her passive skills to look through still, but Kai wanted to try laying an egg beforehand. It would still need to hatch and doing it this way would be more efficient. She also wanted to bring it behind her and hopefully it wouldn’t hurt or feel bad.

Kai followed the vague impression and pushed something intangible, mana she guessed, in her tail, where she condensed it a bit. Slowly a pressure started to build inside her tail and it began to inflate even more than before. Kai was a bit worried as she wouldn’t be able to leave her hideout that way.

To her relief it didn’t hurt and instead felt strangely good. The rising of pressure in her tail stopped and left Kai a bit disappointed, though she wouldn’t admit that she enjoyed the feeling. Then muscles she didn’t even know she had contracted and the pleasure Kai felt before came back twofold.

Holy shit! Why did this have to feel so good?

Kai moaned softly. “Ohh gawd, please stop.”

She put her face in her hands in embarrassment. If it felt like this every time she would get addicted to it fast.

The end of her tail was slowly pushed open and Kai bit her lip. Then with one final push the egg rolled to the ground, leaving the opening exposed to the air for a moment before it closed with the deflation of her tail. She shuddered at the sensation.

No matter what Kai had thought about laying eggs before, now she was a fan. That feeling was so good it should be illegal and if that would have taken longer Kai was sure she would have come. Maybe that would happen if the egg got a bit bigger?

Kai’s blush intensified a bit and she shook her head, bad thoughts.

She turned to the egg and inspected it. It had the same dark blue color as her chitin and was currently laying on its side, but would reach up to Kai’s hips if it stood upright.

A weird feeling of fondness welled up inside her and she felt the urge to be near the egg and make it stand upright. Was that how a mother felt?

Kai didn’t mind the feeling and instead enjoyed it. It opened her world to another kind of happiness she hadn’t known before.

She shuffled around a bit until she was able to reach the egg with her hands and then slowly and carefully rolled it to a spot where it could stand upright. That the egg was still a bit wet to the touch Kai tried to ignore.

After that she positioned herself next to it and looked at the egg with a dreamy expression. She enjoyed the feeling of happiness she had right now with her whole being until her subconsciousness began to nag her about the other skills.

Kai sighed a bit disappointed, but then smiled. Maybe a life like this wouldn’t be all that bad.
