Thud. I felt my heart dropping to the bottom.

Smell. The infirmary was in the first living space, and we’re not even close to the living room. Did you really smell Lupin from such a distance?

Adelaide wanted to believe that he was bluffing, but the devil in front of her was the Great Devil Abaddon. It was clear that he was stronger than Caladium, and even more than Lisianthus. He possessed a level of power that was hard to imagine, so it was possible for him to smell the scent of Lupinus in the distance. Lisianthus and Caladium also often heard distant sounds or felt energy.

Or Lupin’s scent stayed in the living room. Since we were together a while ago. Adelaide thought, trying to calm her pounding heart. She somehow tried to keep a relaxed look, but it wasn’t easy for her. Fortunately, her face was barely visible thanks to her bowing her head.

On the other hand, Caladium’s silver-gray eyes trembled slightly, perhaps startled. F*ck, that b*st*rd should have gone when we told him to go…! He swore at Lupinus inwardly.

“That’s, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, Abaddon. Actually, we recently caught a human to be used as a test subject. I guess that’s what it smells like. We’ll clean it up as soon as possible… I’m embarrassed because we’ve shown too many shortcomings in front of a noble person.”

Adelaide desperately squeezed out an excuse. She also didn’t forget to add flattering remarks.

She once found it creepy when Pia brought up a ‘test subject’, but now she was incredibly grateful. If she hadn’t told her back then, she would never have thought of this idea. If she had stuttered from anxiety, her neck might have already been sliced off.

The excuse that the smell was due to the test subject was quite plausible to her. In fact, some demons used to catch warriors and conduct various experiments. They put something in their mouths to prevent s****de, bound their limbs, and then performed experiments on them. Finding new specimens was cumbersome so they tried to keep them alive as long as they could. In a way, experimenting on warriors was one of the cruelest methods.

The Demon King did not recommend such experiments because it was considered unclean to invite insignificant humans into the Demon Realm, but did not specifically prohibit it. Most of them were busy killing humans as soon as they saw one, due to the savage nature of the demons, so it wasn’t something that happened often enough to even impose sanctions. However, it was not very rare, so it was worth using as an excuse. In particular, the excuse would work better for someone with mental powers as it was mainly those guys who used to do that kind of experiment.

“Ho… A test subject.”

As expected, Abaddon mumbled as if he was amused. An unknown gleam flashed over his white eyes. Adelaide hoped it would be a simple enthusiasm for learning, so she bowed her head politely, expecting him to turn around and leave again.

However, Abaddon was not such a pushover.

“I must see for myself. It’s something I’m interested in.”

It made matters worse. Adelaide’s face grew paler. I really have to stop this. But how? I don’t have any more excuses. I wish I was as smart as Lisianthus…! She resented her ignorance.

“Oh, I’m sorry, but that’s… In the eyes of the noble Abaddon, it might be something disgusting.”

She must have lost her touch because she has grown stronger these days than she was in her prime. Adelaide made a mistake in her impatience. She stood in Abaddon’s way. Naturally, blocking the front of a strong devil like Abaddon was not a good choice.

“Get out of the way.”

Tak! His large hand struck her upper body without even the slightest hesitation. It didn’t even seem like he gave it much strength, but with one light gesture, Adelaide’s slender body flew through the air. She was stronger than most high-level demons, and yet she couldn’t endure that one movement. No matter how strong she had become, there was still a huge difference in skill compared to a devil.

“Gasp…!”

“Adela!”

Caladium leapt quickly and caught her body. Had it not been for him, she would definitely have been stuck to the wall by now. Adelaide let out a small gasp in his arms. Abaddon hit her by the shoulder and her arm throbbed like crazy. Fortunately she didn’t seem to have broken it, but if she doesn’t stop him, not only her arm but her neck will be broken as well.

“This m***** f*****…!”

Caladium spat harshly at Abaddon. How dare you touch Adela. His eyes flashed with anger.

But before he could react properly, thick magic flew in.

Kaboom! With a roar, the wall behind Caladium completely shattered. It happened so fast that Adelaide couldn’t even see his attack properly. She could only feel his power. The shield that Caladium had created in the meantime was full of gold, and seemed like it would break at any moment.

Through the dust, Abaddon’s figure was slowly revealed.

“If you say something with that dirty mouth of yours again.”

He had an expressionless face like someone who was not alive. However, the glowing energy in those eyes was so distant and deep that even Caladium was startled.

“I will regard it as rebellion against the Demon King and I will officially punish you.”

Abaddon warned in a terrifyingly low voice. The aura surrounding him was so ferocious that Adelaide’s body, who was standing next to him, began to shake unknowingly. She instinctively lowered her head to avoid his gaze. Perhaps because of the absurd difference in power, the fear of an unknown ending rushed in.

Caladium clenched his fists tightly, but did not respond. Saying that it was an  ‘official punishment’ meant that if he goes against him, he will attack him immediately.

His arms wrapped around Adelaide trembled with anger. The sound of grinding teeth could also be heard. But nothing more than that. He didn’t jump Abaddon, nor did he fight back, telling him to give it a try. His pride was the most important thing, it was unlike the simple and ignorant Caladium.

“Yeah, how do you like being so quiet? It looks like you have lost your qualifications, but you don’t know your place. How can you deal with someone like me without Helheim’s power?”

Abaddon laughed. Qualification, the power of Helheim, words that Adelaide could not understand immediately. However, it must have been meaningful information to Caladium, whose veins appeared on his strong arms.

Adelaide bit her lip. He suddenly breaks into her dungeon, attacks her, and insults her demons. Even if he is the Demon King, is it okay for him to be like this? Her resentment suddenly surged. However, in the Demon Realm, power was the law, and originally the Devils were a group of individuals who could do anything. This was the unavoidable reality.

Her resentment didn’t last long. There was no time for that now. Abaddon strode forward to the infirmary. His lips gradually drew an arc. As if he knew that there were already humans, and the legendary warrior there. At first, it seemed like he did not believe in the excuse of test subjects or anything.

“W-Wait…!”

Adelaide got up hurriedly and followed him. But it was already too late. Abaddon grabbed the doorknob with a gigantic hand, tore the door open and threw it away.

Bang! The door to the infirmary was half smashed and rolled down the hallway floor. Adelaide sensed her death and closed her eyes tightly.

“Kyaa!”

She heard Pia screaming in surprise. As her screams reached her ears, reason returned. Adelaide opened her closed eyes and hastened her steps. Even if it was already too late, she couldn’t die easily. Even her demons are somehow…! She quickly stepped into the infirmary.

And what came into her sight was a scene she hadn’t thought of.

“Who are you? What happened?”

The first thing she saw was Pia, dressed differently than usual. She wore a white robe like a scientist would wear, and in her hand held several large, pointed needles in her hand that somehow looked like they would not be used for good purposes.

And the next thing that caught her eye was Lupinus. Lupin was lying in a white hospital bed with his golden hair scattered here and there. His limbs were tied tightly with thick iron cords, and an unfamiliar gag was in his mouth. Even his arm was pierced with a needle, and blood gushed out. It was the needle in Pia’s hand.

They looked like an experimenter and a test subject.

Adelaide was startled to see Lupin’s blood staining his skin red, but she quickly realized that this was the scene they were going for and bit her lip. Luckily, maybe because it was past the time he should have returned to Mediar, or whether it was because he had intentionally changed his appearance in advance, Lupin was in complete human form. His aura was weak and his appearance was different from what she knew, so there seemed to be little room for suspicion.

“Does it smell bad? That’s why I didn’t want to show it to Abaddon…”

Adelaide cleared her worries for Lupinus and performed a stellar performance. Her voice was calm, but she was still afraid, so she couldn’t look up at his face. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought she might get caught.

Abaddon furrowed his thick eyebrows and scanned the infirmary. They were in the middle of an experiment and the smell of his blood filled the room. Contrary to what he expected, the blonde human was just a very common human. No, he was weaker than most warriors, so he thought he was one of the weakest among humans.

‘My intuition is never wrong.’

Seeing the reactions of succubus and Caladium, he was half convinced that there was something they were hiding. But no matter how much he dug, nothing came out. He was very dissatisfied with the results that were different from what he had expected.

Abaddon’s ugly face contorted. Annoyed, he shifted her gaze to see the pretty-looking woman walking around with a puzzled expression on her face. Long eyelashes that covered her eyes, golden hair resembling the sunlight, and pure white wings came into his view one after another.

Abaddon stretched out his hand at her rather impressive appearance.

Tak!

It happened in the blink of an eye. Pia’s pure white body rolled on the floor. Adelaide, who had her head bowed, could not accept her situation, and she stared blankly below her. A bright red liquid was seen flowing slowly from the fallen Pia’s head, dyeing her bright blonde hair.

Abaddon had attacked Pia.

“A blind harpy, you’re dirty too.”

Just because he didn’t like Pia’s existence.
