Chapter 1.3: Sigrid Ankertna

“Sigrid? Are you all right?” Morris asked with his eyebrows knitted.

When he’d heard that Sigrid had been taken to the guard station for violating the curfew, he thought the guards were playing some kind of mischievous prank. However, when the guards eagerly expressed the news that they didn’t lie and even dared to put the names of their colleagues and their own on the line, Morris knew, the news was no joke. Therefore, Morris had come to the guard station as soon as possible and found Sigrid staring at him with an unusual expression.

“What’s wrong?

“Morris……”

“Why? What?”

“How old are you?”

‘What is she talk -’

But Morris answered without a hitch. “Twenty-five”

Sigrid swallowed her breath. It was really 5 years back. She then put her teacup and started to roll up her shirt in a hurry.

“Sigrid! What are you doing?!”

The embarrassed Morris tried to pull down Sigrid’s shirt, but Sigrid was obstinate. Her slender waist was revealed. Sigrid turned her head and looked at the back of her waist side. She touched the area.

“There is no scar.”

“What?”

“Here, there is supposed to be a big scar… from fighting Veramood.”

“Veramood? Why are you fighting that guy? Hey, Sigrid, are you okay?”

“Morris.”

“What?”

“Morris De Forest”

“Why?”

“What year is now in the Imperial calendar?”

“300th.”

Sigrid was lost in thought. It was really five years back.

‘What happened? I’m definitely dead. I’m dead. Did I come back? To the past? How?’

Morris was starting to worry. In any means, she didn’t look normal.

“Sigrid.”

Morris’ voice lowered and softened. Slowly at his call, Sigrid looked up at Morris, blinking as if to focus. The beautiful scarlet eyes that usually had zero emotions were filled with confusion.

“Are you alright? What happened.”

“I’m…”

Sigrid opened her mouth as if wanting to say something, but her words trailed off. She leaned against Morris as if she were falling forward.

Morris became stiff because it was something Sigrid would never do. Morris never knew that Sigrid could make that kind of expression. She was like a different person.

“Sigird Ankertna?”

Sigrid took a deep breath. As she leaned toward Morris, she could feel his warm and firm body. She could hear his heartbeat clearly.

‘Is it real? That person, is he alive?’ At the next moment, Sigrid lifted her head up.

“Alkerto.”

“What?”

“Alkerto, is he alive?”

“Of course he is alive.”

Morris slowly looked at Sigrid. He began to feel certain that she maybe was under some sort of magic. or she had some sort of problem.

“Sigrid, have you ever met a strange person before?”

“What?”

“Did you meet a magician? Or a witch? Or did you eat something weird? Did you walk on a different street than usual?”

“That’s…” Sigrid soon stopped. She swallowed her saliva. “No, I’m sorry. I was having a very real dream.”

“Dream?”

“Yes, I’m sorry for troubling you.”

As Sigrid spoke in an unexpectedly calm tone, she looked even more suspicious in Morris’ eyes. He narrowed his eyes and looked at Sigrid who smiled awkwardly at his gaze.

“I’m really okay. I need to go back home and get some sleep. Oh, I can’t go out right because it’s a curfew. Then I’ll sleep in the station’s accommodations.”

Everyone was embarrassed. ‘The Station’s accommodations’ meant the jail.

“No, you don’t need to. Sir Ankertna. You can move around during curfew with the guards. We will escort you home, Sir Ankertna.”

Morris nodded at hearing the captain’s words. “My house is close to here. You could stay at my house for the night.”

However, Sigrid shook her head. “No need. I’ll just go to my house. It’s more comfortable there.”

“But the guard’s job would be doubled.” Morris didn’t feel right seeing the change in Sigrid’s behavior. He wanted to keep her in his sight. So, Morris secretly raised a little problem in hopes that Sigrid would agree.

“Oh. Is that so?”

With a little hesitation, Sigrid finally accepted the idea. It was a bad idea to trouble the guards to go all the way back to her house. Then, escorted by a guard, Sigrid and Morris headed to Morris’ home.
