In a quiet night, the moonlight shines towards Shen Yu. He is kneeling in front of the hall, a frail man fading into the light.
A cold breeze chills the ground. He feels the cold, hunger and pain in his body and the heaviness in his eyelids make him want to close his eyes so badly.
It’s not a big deal, since he was born as a slave, he had experienced the cold and starvation. Although he lives with the duke now, he often suffers too. Shen Yu would be relieved if the duchess didn’t use any new methods of torture on him.
Shen Yu is exhausted, his vision getting blurry. He lowers his head.
Just as he is about to sleep, he feels a sharp pain on his shoulder which forces him to stay awake.
Zhi Luo is holding a two-inch long needle, that she pricks into his left shoulder.
The pain from that jab makes him wide awake.
“Madam Shen, my apologies. I’m not doing this out of my own volition. The duchess does not want you to sleep, and I can’t think of any other way to keep you awake. This is the only method I know. If you can’t handle it, try not to close your eyes, then you won’t feel any pain” says Zhi Lou.
Zhi Luo is smiling while torturing him with the needle. It would completely penetrate him after a few more pricks.
Shen Yu clenches his teeth and straightens his body while enduring the pain. He cheers himself up, trying to stay awake.
The duchess is the mistress of the house, and his mother taught him to obey the orders of his superiors. It’s late into the night, Shen Yu’s body is already too weak. He can’t take any more of that, so he falls asleep.
This time, Zhi Luo pokes the needle onto his knee.
The needle sinks halfway through his knee, and, although it is not completely buried into his body, the needle pierces in deeper whenever Shen Yu tried to relax his body.
“I told you, try not to fall asleep if you’re afraid of the pain”.
Zhi Luo then takes another needle, swaying it in front of Shen Yu.
“Let me help you with that.”
The needle then punctures through his other knee.
Shen Yu is sweating badly. He can’t kneel properly, he can only lift his knee to prevent it from touching the ground.
The duke had given him different types of medication to help him stay awake whenever he yearned for pleasure. Although Shen Yu looked energized all day, his body was exhausted.
He hopes to faint, but is unable due to the medication he took.
“Madam Shen, the duke will not be able to notice this pinhole sized wound. Since you are deaf, you won’t be able to tell him and no one will know it, right?”.
Shen Yu wants to seek help. Before, his mother would pity him and stay by his side, but now, no one in the house would help him nor give him the slightest bit of pity.
The duke is a violent and scary man. He felt helpless just thinking of the duke.
The pain Shen Yu is suffering now is worse than just ripping off his skin. It is almost dawn, yet he doesn’t have the energy to lift up his hand.
“Miss Zhi Luo! Miss Zhi Luo!” a maid calls, “The duke is back!”
Zhi Luo stands up then shouts “Quick, send him back, don’t let the duke see him!”
Shen Yu is then sent back to his room. He is fast asleep as soon as he lies on his bed, until the duke comes in.
Shen Yu slowly opens his eyes; his face as pale as a ghost. Only the duke can help him now. He wants to smile at him, but was too tired to do so. Instead he just smirks.
