Title: Silent Lover Author: Qiang Tang Translated by Condz Edited by Asaki

Zhenbei Wang sent everyone out to search, and took the lead on his own to descend the cliff.

This cliffside wasn’t the steepest place on Langjuxu Mountain, but with the thick layer of snow it would be extremely difficult for someone without a martial arts background to navigate. Even the highly trained guards moved slowly.

Zhenbei Wang had already descended about 150 meters down and had still yet to find any traces or clues. The snow clung to his body, covering up the blood stains. His breath came out in bursts of white and melted into the cold air.

The Princess took Shen Yu’s portable furnace out from the carriage and held it in her hands. Wearing her white fur cape, she waited impatiently. “Will my Lord not give up until he’s found Shen Yu’s body? My Lord only knows how to love him, and only give him all the affection.”

Xiao Xiye’s gaze was focused. As he watched the faint outline of Zhenbei Wang amidst the harsh winds, he suddenly thought of something.

“Dairou, tell me honestly, from where did Shen Yu fall down?”

The Princess raised her head in surprise. Hemming and hawing, she finally pointed towards another direction some ways away.

“I, I don’t really remember, it was around over there.”

“You-” Xiao Xiye tried to suppress his anger and asked, “Why didn’t you tell Xuanxiao?”

The Princess fired back a question in disbelief, “Should I have told that to my Lord so he can bring that lowly wench back to hinder me again? My brother, weren’t you always on my side? How can you be protecting that slut now? I knew it, this sly fox has seduced you as well.”

“Was he pushed down by you?” Xiao Xiye asked again.

The Princess couldn’t speak and stammered for a while, exposing the truth.

“So what if it was me? I took advantage of the confusion and pushed him down on purpose! I wish I could skin him alive, drink his blood, and eat his flesh! If he dies, everyone will be happy! Don’t think about ever seeing that fox again!”

Pah–!

The clear sound of a slap sounded against the Princess’ cheek. She was stunned stupid.

“Look at yourself, you’ve become a common shrew for Jun Xuanxiao! Do you even have one ounce of Princess decorum left?” Xiao Xiye said sternly.

Tears rolled down the Princess’ face as she cupped her cheek and yelled, “My brother, you’ve never hit me before and yet you’re hitting me now because of that lowly slave?”

“I didn’t hit you because of your crazy rambling,” Xiao Xiye took a deep breath and gritted out between his teeth, “It’s because you almost ruined my plans!”

Xiao Xiye did not want to explain further, and descended the cliff at the spot that the Princess pointed to.

The Princess was stunned in place, crying and cursing, “Why do you all like that vixen and protect him? He deserves to die, falling to his death here is letting him off easy!”

The place from where Shen Yu fell down was even more steep. Thankfully Xiao Xiye kept up with his martial arts all these years, otherwise it would have been impossible for a pampered Emperor like him to go down.

“You’re all crazy! What’s so great about this lowly servant? Go search all you want! Let’s see how you’ll fight over a corpse!” The Princess felt both angry and wronged, and stomped her way back into the carriage.

By the time Xiao Xiye reached the bottom of the cliff the sky had darkened. It seemed to have stopped snowing too, the snow cover on the ground reflecting the light.

Shen Yu’s dark hair was a stark contrast among the snowy grounds. When Xiao Xiye found him at the bottom of the cliff, Shen Yu’s body was partially covered by the snow. Xiao Xiye couldn’t feel his breath anymore; laying his head against his chest, he heard a faint heartbeat.

Many years later, as Zhenbei Wang thought back to all the past mistakes he made, the one he regretted the most was this: the one who found Shen Yu that day was Emperor Ye, and not him.
