Discussion with general zombie that somehow started. As a living person, I can't lose to a zombie with a rotten brain, even if it is intelligent. We will win.

"You said this land is dead. That is true now. But that doesn't mean it can't rise again. The earth is immortal. Those of you who are defiling it and preventing its resurrection are a hundred years too young to speak out against me, a man who is working to restore this land to normalcy. Go be born again."

Perfect. And I said something brilliant to a zombie about being born again. Can't argue with that.

"You said you came here to level up. When did it become about bringing this place back to normal?"

I think I said ....... Don't be passive. If you don't push them hard, you'll only put them at a disadvantage.

"We have to raise the bar and get this place back to normal. Skeleton King. Lich. King Zombie. There are all kinds of powerful enemies. Raising the bar is the right thing to do. You said you wanted me to have a chance to grow into an intelligent being?"

"Yes, you have cruelly crushed your long-lost friends who were waiting for you to evolve. You crushed them who had been holed up in this cave, not bothering anyone, and you crushed them.

"Ha-ha-ha-ha. That means you're a demon after all. You tried to protect yourself by walling off your fellow creatures who might have developed intelligence. You talk about your friends, but in the end you don't care about them. You cared about yourself first, didn't you?

"No. They sacrificed themselves to protect me. They were brave.

"The enemy. Defend them. That's what you said when I attacked. And you only watched until the wall was almost gone. You only spoke out in haste when you were in danger. Am I right?"

No, it's not true. I believed we could win. I believed in my people.

I feel like I'm getting the upper hand. Let's push through with everything we've got. Momentum over theory.

"But isn't it too late to make a decision? They could have easily blown up our people. You knew right away there was nothing you could do. Normally you'd stop a little sooner. You would have sacrificed yourself to save them. You didn't care about them, did you? You're lucky you're still alive. No, you're already dead.

"No. I'm not wrong. If I go down, who's going to lead them?"

Maybe he was thinking about his friends and guiding them properly? ...... No, no. Don't let them lead you astray. They're zombies. We can't lose.

No, no, no. You're wrong. You still hide behind your friends and never show yourself. Lead? Who are you going to lead when you're all alone? Pfft. Are you delusional?"

"No. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You guys, kill him!

Oh, he snapped. I guess I win now. At the command of the zombie general, I reave the zombies that came charging at us in pieces, and then I close in at once to crush the zombie mage and zombie archer.

The last general zombie, who ran out of steam, rushes forward with his sword swinging, and I crush him. This is a complete victory for me. I kill the rest of the zombies, and patiently take the magic stone from the general zombie.

I wash it again and again in disgust. Whew, it's pretty big compared to the other magic stones. Is it because I've awakened to intelligence? Well, it's not a pleasant thing to look at, so let's just stow it away and get out. I can't stand the smell any longer.

****

I go outside and hit wash after wash on my body. I'll never get used to this smell.

"Yuta. What are you doing? You're acting like you're the villain."

"Yaku-aku-aku."

Cue.

"Hey, that's terrible."

Belle and the others scold me like I'm a pussy. Sylphy, however, is deeply irritated by the words of Belle and the others. I have to make an excuse.

"Look... "Look, Belle. Rain. Rain. Listen to me. That battle was a battle for human dignity. There's nothing terrible about it.

"Son-gen-?"

Cue?

"Isn't it awful?"

He is tilting his head back, as if he doesn't understand what's going on. He's cute.

"Yes. Dignity. You know we can't lose a war of words to a zombie. So I fought as hard as I could. And they fought as hard as they could. This is a fair fight, and there's nothing terrible about it. Do you understand?"

......We watch with bated breath as Bell and the others cross their arms and ponder. I mean, how does Lane cross his fins?

"Okay!"

"Cue."

"Yeah."

Whew, I got it. I have to remember that these kids are watching the fight. They're gonna hate me eventually. As I was wiping the cold sweat off my face, Sylphy came up to me with a disgusted look on her face.

"Yuta! From now on, don't argue with the undead. You were almost talked down a bit.

Ugh. They're onto us. If it hadn't been for the zombies, I think I would have come home convinced. I felt like maybe it was my fault.

I'll do that next time. But, I wonder if there are any good demons out there. I really thought I might be with someone I could talk to and understand until about halfway through."

"Some people can follow demons, and they have skills. So we can't take on all demons without questioning them, but if we listen to them every time they talk to us like they did this time, we'll lose our lives sooner or later. Basically, we destroy demons. Good."

"All right. From now on, I will fight demons without question.

That's good. So we have a little time to move around, but shall we rest here for the rest of the day?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm a little tired, so I'm going to rest here for the rest of the day. I'm going to have Tulu squash that hole and then we'll go to dinner. Tulu. It's a little bigger than usual.

"...... is fine. I can do it."

"Then do it."

Tulu approaches the hole and casts a spell, causing the fuzzy earth to move and flow into the hole. Magic is very useful, isn't it? When I first decided to fill in the hole, I had to hit it with a hammer and let it fall down without thinking, but now that Tulu is doing it for me, I can clean it up nicely.

"Tulu. Thank you."

Tulu's eyes narrow in delight when I pat his head. The taciturn boy has grown accustomed to being with everyone, and his expression has become a little more expressive. That's a good thing.

Well, the biggest contributor is Tamamo, who is not here. Tamamo's enchanting fur seems to have captured Tulu's heart. It's kind of heartwarming to see her holding a tamamo and gently stroking it.

After destroying the monster's nest, we leave the mobile base and have an early dinner. Dinner is the usual seafood, but I am thankful for the presence of oil leaf, which has increased since yesterday.

I'm the only one who eats it. Eating vegetables for health is not good for spirits.

"Yuta. Do you like my vegetables?"

As I was smiling and picking oil leaves, Belle asked me if I was interested in her. She wondered if I really thought they tasted good. She hated it because she said it was bitter.

It's delicious. I used to not like vegetables so much myself, but before I knew it I liked them. Maybe Belle will too when she grows up."

Belle twists her head with a fish in her hand. She seems to be sincerely doubtful that she will really like it. Neither Rain nor Tulu looks at the vegetables. If their appearance is childish, their taste buds must also be childish.

After dinner, I discuss my future plans with Sylphy, and watch Belle and her friends flying around in the night sky. In the darkness, illuminated by the moonlight, a little girl, a dolphin and a boy are happily playing tag in the air. It's a fantasy.

"Sylphy. What's Rich up to?"

Defeating the general zombie finally brought Rich to my attention. Is he a temptress?

"Hmmm. Sometimes a powerful sorcerer with a strong attachment to magic becomes rich when he becomes undead. They are intelligent, and they are obsessed with magic, so I think they will use all kinds of magic.

I'm not a very happy opponent for a physical guy like me.

"Do you think I can go in there and win?"

"If it hits, it will be a blow, but if it doesn't, it will be tough."

That's not good, is it? Today's battle showed me that against an intelligent opponent, you can't just swing a hammer around. And it's troublesome that he's good at magic.

"It's no good fighting the way we are now. Can you give me some advice?"

"Yuta has a contract with a spirit. It is important not to rely too much on the spirits, but you should make use of their power as well. If you do that, you will win with enough time to spare.

You're asking Bell and his friends for help. ......Will you ask for help from the Belles at key points......Will it work?

"Hmmm. I don't know what to do. ......"

"You should talk to the Bells more. They're capable of so much more."

Hmm. I thought we were communicating well enough, but when I think about it ......, I've only been shown some simple magic in battle. It's important to talk with Bell and the others to broaden my fighting skills.

"Thank you, Sylphy. I'll talk it over with them.

First, let's figure out what the status is after this battle. Let's see what we can do and have a strategy meeting.

...... Whoa. My level is up to 36. I've been destroying monster nests steadily, and I was at 33, so I'm up three levels. I've killed a lot of zombie knights and zombie soldiers in addition to killing general zombies.

In a small hive, there are hardly any zombie knights. I guess Sylphy was right about the big nests being more efficient. But I haven't improved my magic rank. It would have been easier if it had been raised here: ....... My skills haven't increased either. I'm not there yet.

We call up Bell and the others and see what we can do. It seems that they don't understand well if I ask them in detail, so I give them a rough idea of what I can do and they confirm whether they can do it or not.

It's quite difficult. I tried to tell them about magic and techniques I have seen in cartoons and animations, but it takes quite a long time to tell them one by one. To tell the truth, it's quite difficult.
