HOT HOT HOT HOT!

Holy crap it’s so fucking hot!

Everything burned, melted, all I could see were flames and IT’S SO FUCKING HOT! OWWWW!

There was some kind of line between actual pain and heat and wherever that line was, I had completely missed it at some point. I thought I couldn’t feel pain, that was probably still true, but I could still feel heat! HOT!

I couldn’t see, not because my eyes were gone this time, along with most of my nerves. No, I couldn’t see this time because all of my vision was covered in flames. I heard Tyler’s bellows, even over the roar of the inferno, and then a horrifying loud Bang that actually managed to disperse the flames for a moment.

That singular look had me running.

My clothes had already burnt to ashes, again. Same as last time then, sadly. But my body, it was holding up much better this time. Then again, these flames were white hot, not blue. But it was getting hotter by the moment.

None of that would matter if I didn’t hurry though.

I charged forward, heading directly for Riary.

My arms grabbed from where the flames were coming, gripping something. Flesh boiling, melting, and going numb nearly immediately. I pulled backwards and not a moment too late.

From the flames came a horrible visage. A white smile and green glowing eyes were seen, with a hand reaching out from the flames to grab from where Riary just was. My heart beat heavy in my chest. Too close! If she got ahold of Riary again, we were well and truly screwed.

I rapidly backpedaled, carrying the source of the fire in my arms. Thankfully for everyone involved, Riary had seen the visage too. Suddenly, all of the flame coming out, all of the flames in the air, rushed forward.

They met some resistance.

Air solidified and the flames began to be pushed back.

This was bad. Because I had realized what the vampire’s power was. I didn’t know if it was magic or what, but the thought of it terrified me.

Long ago, there was a debate between people who care about things. Things most people don’t. The question they were asking was ‘How?” The subject?

Superman.

How does Superman catch a woman falling from a massive height and not kill her? How does he catch a speeding plane? How does he fly? Force can not suddenly be stopped on an object without tearing it apart. His strength is impossible without destroying his body, and even without that, it would constantly break things. Not to even mention the problems of his durability.

Nerds, being who they are, came up with an answer.

Tactile Telekinesis.

Simply put, controlling anything you touch.

He’s simply removing all the forces acting on the plane. He’s simply removing the kinetic force on the falling woman. His strength? Well it’d be simple to make himself stronger with it. Bullets unable to pierce him? Child’s play to make kinetic force not act on him or even come to a complete stop the moment it touched him.

A lot, a very strange lot, of his powers could be attributed to simply being able to control whatever he touches with telekinesis.

The nerds packed up, called it a day, and decided not to figure out how his vision powers worked for at least a few more days.

That was the power before us. She hadn’t been controlling air, I don’t think. Not through magic, though for all I knew this was just a simple version of magic. She had been hardening air around us. Making it immovable. Because she had been touching it. Who was ever not touching air after all? Because Tactile Telekinesis, it embodied the ‘whole’ of an object. It clearly had some limits but still. This was bad. Very bad. She had controlled Riary’s body, making her suck her off, just by touching her. Had made her lean into the kiss.

We needed to touch her, to kill her. But we’d be ripped apart if we tried.

To make matters worse, I saw Tyler to my right. His shield had a massive dent in it and Konahora was applying healing immediately. We didn’t just have to contend with the air, not being able to touch her, and any other vampiric abilities she had. She was also incredibly strong, and could make herself stronger.

I backed up, releasing Riary. She was giving it her best shot. There was clearly some natural limit, as the air wasn’t just being ripped out of our lungs. Riary was busy holding her back, but she was losing ground. I ran over to Konahora who didn’t even blink an eye as she started healing both me and Tyler.

“Her power is Tactile Telekinesis, she can control whatever she touches, including the air in the room! She can stop any force on herself immediately.” I was assuming, a lot, but this was no time for a week long yes/no/maybe questionnaire bullshit. My mind was telling me I was right and I had to act on it now.

Konahora caught my eye and only barely missed a beat, before replying.

“She’s a vampire, with probably a few centuries of combat experience under her belt, as well as a B-rank one at that. She’ll be able to turn into a swarm of fog to dodge non-magical attacks and have incredible strength, power, and speed. She’s the host of the house and it will probably aid her in defense.”

We were absolutely going to die, in other words.

“Time.” Tyler groaned beneath us. We glanced down. “It takes time for her to use her power, at least it did on my shield.”

Right. I glanced back at his shield. It had a massive, fist indent in it. Tyler had taken blows from an ogre without moving, some new reality bullshit. For him to be flung like that, it had to be something extra. Apparently, maybe, dense objects took longer to control?

Also, that hit seemed to knock some sense back into him, as he longer seemed about to die of an aneurysm. He was worriedly glancing back at Riary though. I did too. I was pretty sure she was yelling, roaring out into the world, but the actual sounds of the inferno were covering it up. Or rather, listening, I was awed to notice that she was roaring through her fire. A yell like the wrath of Ares.

I couldn’t even see her, she was covered in flames completely.

Tyler healed up and picked up his shield, Konahora gripped her staff and prepared her hands, glowing with green healing power. I flexed my… nude body. Not fair, Konahora and Tyler both still had clothes…

They all looked ready for a fight to the death. I knew that would be useless. If we were going to win this, it wasn’t going to be a fight. It was going to be closer to defusing a bomb. We had to get lucky and take advantage of everything we could, and hope for the best. We were always going to lose a straight fight.

My mind ran through, thinking fast, thinking hard, trying to figure out anyway we could kill a vampire. Our options sucked. I didn’t know if any of the natural weaknesses they were said to have were A. real and B. useful. I doubted we’d get a wooden stake through her skin, let alone her heart. No running water was nearby and it was the dead of night. My thoughts on tactile telekinesis didn’t show any inherent weaknesses either. In fact, environmental effects might be the only way to hurt her. As in, flames. No wonder she took an interest in Riary.

Suddenly Riary’s flames stopped and I finally got a good look at her. She was… basically a fire spirit at this point. Flames swirled around her, coating her body. Her mage robe was still surprisingly intact. Her eyes had entirely become flames, looking like they were barely contained behind them. With every breath, the fire breathed. Not only going in and out her mouth, but rising and falling, like they were just extensions of her breath.

I sharply noticed, from my power gauge, that Riary had gotten noticeably stronger. Not enough to become a ‘B-Rank’ but any increase in our advantages would help.

Riary spoke only one word. Only a single, roaring word. It was seeped in her magic and it spoke of trauma, of a life of intensity, of the depths of the deepest of rages. Just hearing it, made me angrier. Made me feel more present, more intense, more ready to destroy. My blood pumped harder and my emotions intensified.

“Burn.”

The flames became blue and the fight truly began.
