147 Chen-ge, I had fun today
There is nothing more satisfying to watch than a man in love. Yes sure, sometimes that love would be unrequited but they would behave strangely when things are going quite well between them and their love interest.
Everything about them is weird. The slight spring in their steps. The happy smile on their faces like it’s spring in winter. The random chuckles that spring up from nowhere. Oh and let’s not forget how they constantly rush to check their phones when they hear that dinging sound.
Well, Yi Chen was no exception. He was suffering from the same syndrome and his mother noticed as soon as he walked into the house.
Lin Ruoxi who was playing dolls with Ming Ming got up abruptly when she heard the sound of the main door. Ming Ming was a little dissatisfied with her mother leaving before they finished washing doctor Kitty’s hair. But Lin Ruoxi wasn’t in the mood to appease her right now.
She rushed over to the door and found Yi Chen standing by the door with a beaming smile while staring at his light brain. As though hypnotized, he was staring at the screen with a focused gaze that he didn’t even notice his mother standing there.
His shoes had long been sanitized but he remained unmoving like a statue. What was he looking at? Well, Zi Han had sent him a heartwarming message. It read:
HandsomeHan: Chen-ge, I had fun today.
HandsomeHan: Let’s do it again next time.
To Zi Han, it was a simple message to a friend letting them know that he had a great time but in Yi Chen’s brain it sounded different.

This is the problem with messages. Unlike voice calls or video calls the tone of the sender can be interpreted in so many ways. When Zi Han sent it the tone was a casual monotonous voice like commenting on the weather.
Yi Chen on the other hand interpreted it as a coquettish voice sending shivers all over his body. He could even imagine Zi Han gently tugging at his arm while saying it. This explained the extreme sweet smile on his face.
YC: I had a lot of fun as well.
YC: I will take you to the beach next time.
Of course, when he replied he used a flirtatious tone but we all know that Zi Han would interpret it differently.
He let out a light chuckle recalling Zi Han’s reaction when he said that he wouldn’t tell him why he was nice to him.
Zi Han was so angry that he scolded him on the spot. “You asked me to call you Chen-ge. I did but you can’t fuckin tell me?” was what Zi Han said with a glare so fierce that Yi Chen feared that if looks could kill he would be dead already.
His response then was still the same, “It’s a secret. I will tell you when I am ready.”
Zi Han wouldn’t let go of the issue after that. This is why he was calling Chen-ge this, Chen-ge that. It was because he wanted to know this secret.
Yi Chen who was stuck in his reverie suddenly heard his mother calling, “Chen Chen!”
He lifted his head and was stumped for words. He had no idea how long she had been standing there watching. “Ma.....,” he called out before hastily hiding away the emotions showing on his face.
Lin Ruoxi sneered internally. What was the point of hiding his emotions when she had stood here for two minutes and seen it all? “You are in a happy mood..... Anything interesting happened at the academy?” she asked but internally she was answering her own question.
Yi Chen straightened his back while answering her, “No..... I will be in my room.” After saying that he took a step forward as though fleeing but Lin Ruoxi stood in front of him blocking his path.
“Why the rush?....,” she said before falling silent. She wanted to tell him that she had seen him at the cafe but she was afraid he would retreat into his turtle shell and not tell her anything in the future thus she could only keep her mouth shut.
Yi Chen was about to say he wanted to do some assignments when he remembered Mr. Twiggles was still in his possession. His mother had a lot of seamstresses and seamsters working in her boutique but they normally focused on luxury dresses and expensive suits.
He wasn’t sure if they would be able to repair Mr. Twiggles so he could appease Zi Han but he had to give it a try otherwise he won’t be able to hear the end of it.
“Oh..... I was wondering if one of your seamstresses can repair this. I accidentally tore it today,” he said taking out a torn shark plushy with its head and body separated. Some of the fluff was even missing.
Lin Ruoxi was a little surprised. Ming Ming had a lot of plushies that were torn but usually, when that happens she would make them disappear and buy her replacements. But her son wanted to mend a torn plushy. It’s either the owner valued it so much or he was trying to impress someone.
“Whose is it?” she asked taking the shark out of his hands.
Yi Chen froze for a moment before responding, “A friend.”
Lin Ruoxi who was having a hard time holding her tongue pressed her lips into a thin line and only responded when she was confident she could control her words. “I will call someone. I am sure they will be done by this evening.... Do you have a deadline?”
Yi Chen didn’t want to put pressure on his mother so he answered, “It is not urgent.”
Hearing this Lin Ruoxi almost rolled her eyes. How could it not be urgent? This concerned her future in law.
“I will call someone_,” she said when she heard arguing coming from the lounge area.
“AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! You are pulling out doctor Kitty’s hair. That’s not how it’s done,” was the sound of Ming Ming’s voice reprimanding Yi Youxi.
