74 A succubus

Both Lin Ruoxi and Yi Youxi froze in place as they gazed at him in awe. The way Yi Chen hated noisy and rowdy places he wouldn’t be caught dead in such a place.

Yi Feng had begged him several times to come to the opening but he rejected him ruthlessly. Now he was taking the initiative to visit him.

“Can I come.... pleeeeeease,” said Ming Ming completely unaware of what a nightclub is all about.

Yi Chen gulped half the bottle of water before saying, “Say the word birth certificate without a mistake and you can come.”

Lin Ruoxi came out of her daze and said, “Stop teasing her. You know she wouldn’t be able to say it,” before turning to look at him with her clenched hand on her hip, “and why go there all of a sudden? I thought you hate going to his nightclub.”

“Birth cerfificate.... cerfifi... ferfi-,” was the sound of Ming Ming trying to say that word in the background.

Yi Youxi patted her shoulder while saying, “You almost got it. Keep trying.”

“Ferficate, birth ferficate!” she exclaimed thinking she had succeeded in defeating this annoying word.

Yi Chen shook his head towards her while replying, “I have some business with him. I will eat at his place. Don’t wait up.” After saying that he kissed his mum on the cheek and walked off.

.....

Lin Ruoxi’s brow furrowed as she watched him leave. As soon as his figure disappeared she turned to her two little rascals.

“Five hundred star coins for anyone who can tell me what your brother has been up to,” she said her gaze shifting towards Yi Youxi.

Yi Youxi raised his head and stared at her for a second before saying, “Snitches get stitches.”

Lin Ruoxi, “.....”

“A thousand.....,” she said while leaning on the counter with a quirk on her lips.

Yi Youxi smiled slyly but didn’t respond. His attitude was clear. He had the words ‘I am not a sellout’ written all over his face.

“Birth cer, cer..... um cerfifi.....,” mumbled Ming Ming who was still trying to get the words out.

“Oh Ming-er, just give it up. He is already gone,” said Lin Ruoxi feeling a little bothered.

Yi Chen climbed onto his hover-bike while putting on his helmet before driving off into the night. Twenty minutes later he was in the nightlife district of the Capital Star. The place wasn’t as busy as it should be because it was still so early in the evening.

Yi Chen stopped in front of a top-tier nightclub, got off his sleek hover-bike and tossed the keys to the valet while he put on a black mask covering half his face. The atmosphere was rather calm and whimsical because of the starry sky projectiles on the ceiling and part of the walls.

The place was dim-lited with purple and yellow lights lining the furniture. There were groups of two to five scattered all over the club sitting on couches having an early outing. A man approached Yi Chen and said, “Sir, you can follow me,” before leading the way.

Yi Chen was led down the corridor before climbing up the stairs. The man knocked on a glass door and Yi Chen heard Yi Feng’s voice calling out, “Come in.”

The man opened the door and stepped aside while gesturing for Yi Chen to enter. In slow strides, Yi Chen entered the luxurious lounge while taking off his mask. Yi Feng leaned back while stretching out his neck to see his cousin at the door. The smile on his face grew wider as he retracted his gaze and continued mixing the cocktail.

“When aunt messaged me I thought she was lying. You are really here..... take a seat,” he said while pouring out some neon green liquid into cocktail glasses. A misty cloud escaped from the contents making one a little reluctant to drink it.

“I invented this. Do you want to give it a try?” asked Yi Feng as he placed the cocktail glasses on the low glass table.

Yi Feng thought it would take a lot of convincing for his cousin to drink it but to his surprise, Yi Chen picked that glass up without hesitation and with a slight tilt of his head he down the entire thing.

The taste was both sour and sweet but it left a nice burning sensation on his throat. Unfortunately, the cocktail did nothing to suppress his thoughts. “Hey, hey, hey.... it’s not a fuckin shot. You savour it....., savour it not down it,” said Yi Feng trying to stop him but it was already too late.

Yi Chen placed the cocktail glass down and asked, “Where is your friend?”

Yi Feng, who was busy mopping about how his cousin didn’t know how to enjoy artistic things furrowed his brows while picking up the cocktail glass and asked, “What friend?”

“Leila,” he said only for Yi Feng to raise his head and stare at him in surprise. Yi Chen never cared for any of his friends. In fact, he never cared about anything about him outside family business. Yi Chen had his back but he wouldn’t come to the nightclub or hang out with him when his (Yi Feng’s) friends were around yet now he was asking about one of them?

“Downstairs, why?” asked Yi Feng while staring at him with a perplexed look on his face, “Are you interested in her? You do realise she is packing down there, right? She loves wearing dresses whenever she comes here but outside those doors, she becomes a he and a terrifying one at that.”

She wasn’t that terrifying but Yi Feng deliberately exaggerated it so that he would dissuade his cousin from being interested in Leila. If his auntie were to find out that Yi Chen found love in his nightclub she would kill him.

Yi Chen glanced at the bracelet on Yi Feng’s wrist as though checking something. That was the newly designed drug monitoring bracelet his father got for Yi Feng to stop him from taking illicit drugs. Once he does, his entire body would be paralyzed and it would immediately alert his relatives. That was the only reason why he was allowed to be in his nightclub.

“Call her for me. I want to ask her something,” he said in a calm tone like he was simply asking about the weather.

Yi Feng, “.....”

“Brother trust me, you don’t want to involve yourself with the likes of Leila. She is like a succubus and she will suck you dry if you as much as smile at her,” he said while curling his fingers like claws in an attempt to express how much of a bad idea this was.

“Hey, who do you think you are calling a succubus?!”

Yi Feng, “Fuck!”
