Chapter 85: Mysterious Painting (1)

Ye Sui personally confirmed that the vase was indeed a fake.

Since she already certified it, no one in the bullet screen made a fuss. In addition, the netizens would certainly not think that it was a real antique.

“Hahaha, suddenly, I think Ye Sui is very down-to-earth. It turns out that she cannot afford the real thing.”

“That vase looks like the real deal. Since it’s cheap, I also want to buy an identical one and put it at home. There must be a lot of vases like this in the antique market.”

Chen Shu breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that this topic had ended. But then, an eye-catching comment soon popped up.

“Of course, Ye Sui’s vase is not the real thing. I have seen the genuine antique before.”

A comment by the user name “Ms. Perfect” appeared on the bullet screen. This so-called Ms. Perfect joined the live stream just to see Ye Sui’s makeup products. She was mesmerized by Ye Sui’s advertisement, and just like other netizens, she attended the live stream tonight.

Chen Shu’s hand paused. Although Ye Sui had been staring at the live stream and did not look at his direction, but Chen Shu, still inexplicably guilty, couldn’t help but glance at her.

At this moment, Ye Sui held her chin with one hand and noticed that no one asked her questions. She just looked at the bullet screen and did not speak.

“Ms. Perfect? Where did you see it?”

“I’m not finding fault with Ms. Perfect, but this antique is too expensive to buy. The last time I went to the auction with my uncle, I saw that the vase was sold.”

“I do not know the buyer’s identity, but it was expensive. Perhaps this sister would like to share it with us. I want to meet that person.”

For a long time, the bullet screen remained still. Chen Shu froze and did not move for a long time. He knew very well that this netizen was also at the auction.

In the midst of all the anticipation, Ms. Perfect in the bullet screen finally replied.

“There were a lot of bidders at the time. They kept fighting until the price touched the sky. It was finally the President of Huarui who took it.”

Ms. Perfect recalled the scene of the auction with more detail.

“President Chen bid the highest in that auction. Furthermore, he got his hands on several other pieces. I don’t know why he was so insistent; he probably is a collector.”

I don’t like the antiques but the person who gave them to me.

Chen Shu mourned for three minutes in his heart.

This time, it was his fault that he didn’t think about it beforehand. He didn’t imagine that his wealth could attract people. He should not be too high-profile, or else, his identity would be revealed.

After the auction, the real items, which were auctioned off in high profile, were brought home by Chen Shu. Only Wang Chuan knew the truth since he assisted him in taking those antique vases.

In addition, no one doubted that the vase in Chen Shu’s office was a fake. As the owner of a company worth tens of billions of dollars, how could a fake product appear there?

After the live stream, Chen Shu hesitated whether to tell Ye Sui the truth. This event happened so suddenly that he had not had the time to prepare.

Ye Sui tidied up the tea table and stretched her back and neck. After maintaining the same position for a long time, she felt a little sore.

In the corner, Chen Shu just happened to see Ye Sui’s eyes in his line of sight. She stood up and came over toward him.

“The vase I bought at the antique market was the same as that President Chen bought,” Ye Sui opened her mouth and mentioned the matter.

Chen Shu’s breath stagnated, and he listened to her words with bated breath. Is she telling him? Or asking him?

Ermm, I think I should try my best to give her an explanation.

Immediately afterward, Ye Sui suddenly curved the corner of her mouth and revealed a brilliant smile. “Say, do you think I have a good eye?”

Chen Shu was stunned. “…”

Chapter 85: Mysterious Painting (2)

After a moment’s silence, he looked at Ye Sui’s expectant, bright eyes and said sincerely, “You have the most foresight.”

*****

After “Moon Rescue” was finished, Ye Sui received the first special guest notices from several variety shows and joined the crew of “Ning Ling” without interruption.

Previously, Ye Sui had helped Director Xi Zhao communicate with Ning Ling’s ghost. Accordingly, she became the first person to win the heroine of Xi Zhao’s movie as a newcomer.

In the first scene, Ye Sui played against Wu Yu. When Ning Ling’s character, played by Ye Sui, debuted, she was bullied by big-name stars because of her appearance.

Wu Yu played the popular star.

Xi Zhao shouted, “Start.”

Ye Sui sat in front of the makeup mirror, ready to take off her earrings. She covered her ears with her hands and touched the earrings. Although the piece of jewelry was flashy, hands were more dazzling.

At this time, Wu Yu was standing behind Ye Sui. She watched Ye Sui’s face in the mirror, slowly bent down, and stopped beside her ear.

“How long do you think you will be popular in the entertainment circle? One year? Five years? As a newcomer, standing out is just a dream.”

This was the line in the script, but it also expressed Wu Yu’s inner heart. Ye Sui was beautiful and resourceful. Any celebrity would consider her as a strong rival.

She felt uncomfortable and threatened.

Wu Yu’s acting was good, plus she deliberately wanted to suppress Ye Sui from the beginning. When she opened her mouth, her character was exposed in all its entirety.

If Ye Sui’s psychological capacity was not up to mark, she would likely be stunned and forget to respond.

Then, Wu Yu spoke in an ironic tone, “No matter how beautiful your face is, you need the skill to back it up. If you want to become popular, you can only slowly endure for a lifetime.”

When Wu Yu said the second line, Ye Sui was sitting, while she was standing. Although she bent down, she was still looking down at Ye Sui from a high angle.

This perspective made Ye Sui look vulnerable. Wu Yu’s chin lifted slightly, bringing out the hidden contempt in her heart.

Ye Sui knew Wu Yu’s abilities; therefore, she had rehearsed several times in her heart when reading the script. She had already prepared for her psychologically.

She stared right into Wu Yu’s eyes, not shying away. She placed her hand on her earrings and continued to slowly remove them. Then, she put the earrings gently on the table.

All the while, her eyes remained at Wu Yu. She spat out slowly, “Senior, do you really want to know the answer?”

Wu Yu didn’t speak.

Ye Sui’s voice dropped, nevertheless. “You said it just now: no matter how beautiful your face is, you need the skill to back it up. I’ll return it to you.”

Ye Sui did not directly point out the meaning behind this remark. The implication was, Ye Sui had just made her debut, while Wu Yu had been here for nearly six years.

Six years was not long, but for a female star, it was enough to draw a clear line. At this point alone, Wu Yu couldn’t compare with her.

When it came to abilities, Ye Sui was recognized by the director when she first started her career. When Wu Yu was her age, she was just an unknown performer.

Who would be more powerful in the future was naturally Ye Sui.

Ye Sui hooked her lips. “Senior, this is my answer. Are you satisfied?”

Coincidentally, Ye Sui and Wu Yu’s experience was unexpectedly similar to the background of the characters in the play. The words were casually spoken from Ye Sui’s mouth, but they hit Wu Yu hard in the face.

Ye Sui’s face was calm throughout, and her attitude was neither humble nor overbearing.

When Ye Sui spoke her lines, her eyes kept staring at Wu Yu in the mirror. Wu Yu pressurized people using her seniority, but in front of Ye Sui, she was beaten back without any mercy.

Wu Yu was impatient. She wanted to let Ye Sui understand her status through this play.

Ye Sui had only just begun to make an appearance in the entertainment industry, so she deliberately made Ye Sui feel terrified. In this way, Ye Sui would always remember her pressure when doing a play with her.

Unexpectedly, with a few remarks from Ye Sui, she nearly lost her pace and forgot her lines.

Wu Yu dared not think about it again. She immediately adjusted her emotions and finished the remaining lines.

Xi Zhao: “Cut!”

Wu Yu stopped acting at a stroke, yet Ye Sui was still in her character. It took her two seconds to recover.

Director Xi’s tone was fierce and sarcastic. “Wu Yu, did you really give your best? I can’t even make out the popular star in the play.”

Chapter 85: Mysterious Painting (3)

Hearing this, Wu Yu was outraged. Although she had never won an award, she was nominated for an Academy Award. Her agent had helped her win the chance to show her face in Director Xi’s film. Wu Yu knew that Director Xi came back out of retirement, so she used her connection in order to make the cut.

Why else would she, an actress who had been nominated for an Academy Award, be paired with someone like Ye Sui?

At this moment, Director Xi didn’t give a hoot about Wu Yu’s qualifications. He had been making movies for so many years. The actors he had seen were all cream of the crop. Wu Yu’s acting skills couldn’t even rank on the list.

He pointed at Wu Yu with the script. “You, come here.”

Wu Yu didn’t know what the director wanted to do, so she followed his orders. Director Xi asked her to look at the screen. He then asked the cameraman to play back what he had just shot.

Xi Zhao was expressionless. “Keep your eyes open and watch your performance.”

After the scene was wholly replayed, Wu Yu was stunned, then surprised, and, finally, a trace of confusion appeared on her face.

At the end of the clip, Director Xi said, “Do you think I made a mistake in scolding you?”

Wu Yu’s face was pale, and she felt ashamed. Her acting skills were excellent. She wanted to crush Ye Sui to prove that Director Xi’s choice was wrong. However, she didn’t expect Ye Sui to have no stage fright.

After seeing the whole clip, Wu Yu’s feelings became more intense. She had seen both their acting with her own eyes, and the gap between the two became more apparent.

Wu Yu deliberately showed her layered performance, which was not mentioned in the script. She thought it was impossible for Ye Sui to take over her acting skills.

However, with Wu Yu’s performance, Ye Sui’s mood had also been adjusted. Each time, she remained consistent with Wu Yu’s manner of speaking.

With varying expressions and actions, Ye Sui vividly expressed different emotions. Her role could resonate with the audience.

Even if Wu Yu was jealous again, when she saw this, she had to admit that she had indeed lost to Ye Sui.

Wu Yu’s acting skills were not gifted. They had been honed by playing around in entertainment for many years. It was based on the experience gained through various plays.

How many years must other actors spend to achieve this effect? It took only two years for Ye Sui to debut, and she was able to perform her role perfectly. It was difficult to imagine how her future would develop.

Ye Sui had only just emerged this year because the performances of “Crown Prince” and variety show, “Actor”, had received some praise. Before that, the consistent evaluation of her acting skills by others was one word—Crap!

Now, Ye Sui’s performance was pure and natural, without any trace of forcefulness. What had happened during this period to make her have such a transformation?

********

Dai Zhi gave Ye Sui two tickets for the art exhibition. The paintings in the exhibition were the works of master painter Wei Ji, who had already sealed his name. Therefore, these paintings were even more precious, and even one ticket was hard to find.

When Ye Sui saw the tickets, her first reaction was to go with Chen Shu.

After discerning her feelings for him, she always wanted to find a chance to be with Chen Shu and make him like her slowly.

Ye Sui didn’t know that Chen Shu wanted the same. When Ye Sui invited him to the art exhibition, his first reaction was that they might have the opportunity to cultivate their feelings.

The two didn’t know the other’s feelings. They thought about each other and set off together at night.

It was getting dark, but there were many people in the exhibition appreciating Master Wei’s work.

Ye Sui saw several paintings and couldn’t help feeling that Master Wei’s superb level made people think that each work of art was like a wonderful story.

When Ye Sui passed by a painting, she suddenly heard a voice. “This little girl wears a mask. At first glance, I can tell that she does not look good.”

Chapter 85: Mysterious Painting (4)

At this time, another voice sounded, the tone somewhat gloating. “Maybe, her face is covered with acne, and taking off her mask might frighten a large number of people to death.”

The more Ye Sui listened, the odder it was. She looked around. No one but she was wearing a mask, so the two people were probably talking about her.

Ye Sui turned her head to look over, but no one was behind her. She felt strange. Who was talking just now? Ye Sui looked back, but still nothing.

It was so eerie. Ye Sui had turned around as soon as the two people finished speaking, but she didn’t see anything. They just disappeared into thin air.

Chen Shu noticed Ye Sui’s movements and asked, “What are you looking for?”

She couldn’t say that she was looking for someone who was speaking ill of her, right? So, she shook her head. “Nothing.”

The couple continued to walk forward and passed another painting. The two voices rang again, “The young man beside the little girl is quite handsome. Many girls looked at him all the way.”

Ye Sui immediately looked over to see who was talking. Still, there was no one behind her, not even a shadow.

Ye Sui continued to look intently. Her eyes fell on the portrait on the wall and noticed two figures.

They leaned lightly against the painting and were about to be merged into it. This strange gesture was simply beyond the imagination of ordinary people.

Ye Sui suddenly realized that the two who had been talking were ghosts!

The two were naughty, and their mouths were nasty when alive. It still was.

They seemed to regard these paintings as their homes, merging with them in their free time. They commented on those who came to see the exhibition.

The two mischievous ghosts had always been obsessed with the master’s paintings. Many people visited the exhibition with admiration. Their eyes would stare at the painting, and their praises would never stop.

Over time, the mischievous ghosts felt that their status had become noble. They could drift out of sight, so they had no fear of saying anything they wanted to say.

It was the same this time; the two started to talk again.

“The young man just has a bad eye. There are many pretty girls. There’s no need to be with a girl who is not good-looking.”

“The little girl with the mask has pretty eyes, but overall, she shouldn’t be any better. Let’s separate her from the lad.”

Ye Sui pouted her lips, admitting that she was unhappy. The two ghosts said she was okay, but when they said that Chen Shu was more suitable for others, she felt uneasy.

Ye Sui hung her head, and her steps slowed down. After a while, she stopped. Chen Shu looked over at her and asked, “What’s wrong?”

He was keenly aware that Ye Sui had been silent. She looked at Chen Shu and had an idea.

Ye Sui suddenly stood on tiptoe and leaned over towards him. The distance between them narrowed, and the faint scent of her body surged up.

Chen Shu stared at Ye Sui, his eyes dark and unclear.

Ye Sui was close to Chen Shu’s ear. Her voice was not heavy, and through the mask, it clearly reached him. Her tone was somewhat aggrieved. “Chen Shu, someone is bullying us.”

Ye Sui wore a mask, only showing a pair of beautiful eyes. Her eyes, usually bright, were now depressed. Obviously, she was not happy.

Chen Shu frowned. “Who?” No wonder her mood has been a bit off just now.

Ye Sui pointed to the painting behind Chen Shu. “The ghosts on the painting behind you are talking bad about us.”

The corner of Chen Shu’s mouth sank slightly. “What did they say?”

“They say that I’m not good-looking and not a good match for you.”

The coldness gradually clouded Chen Shu’s face. He didn’t speak, just taking out his cell phone. He turned on the flashlight.

Ye Sui wasn’t sure what Chen Shu was going to do, so she watched from the sidelines.

Chen Shu suddenly asked, “Where is the ghost?”

Following Ye Sui’s finger, Chen Shu took the phone and pointed the flashlight straight at the painting.

The light from the flashlight was blinding. It Illuminated the painting, leaving dazzling spots of light. Because of Chen Shu’s special physique, this light would cause substantial damage to the ghost.

The mischievous ghosts didn’t think that it would do anything at first. But when that strong light shone over, they felt a tingling pain all over their body, which was simply unbearable.

They cried out in fear, “Mercy, I’ll stop saying bad things about you—oooooooouuch!”

Chen Shu couldn’t hear the ghost’s wails, though. He continued to shine the light on the portrait and coldly spoke, “Stop talking about others, do you understand?”

He did not allow others to say that Ye Sui was not good at all, not even ghosts.
