The Male Lead Knelt Before Me Chapter 2

‘It must’ve been an instinct to know I’m in a novel, right?’

The unbelievable facts shocked me for a while.

Although I was shocked because I was possessing someone else’s body, my shock grew bigger when I learned I was possessing someone inside a book.

‘Why did I possess someone in a book…’

What made my question scarier was the thought I had before my death.

‘I haven’t even seen the ending yet.’

Are you saying that because I was sad I never finished the ending of the book, I possessed a character in it?

It felt strange to think that what was my last thought might have caused this whole fiasco.

“But still, this isn’t right…”

This novel was enjoyable to read since it was fiction, but I never wanted it to become my reality.

Above all, there was a reason why it might become very difficult if this novel was now my new reality.

The novel I read was a ‘romance fantasy’ novel.

That would mean that the novel’s identity system, unreal power of aurora, divine power, and monsters that bear resemblance to harmless animals were all going to be real.

‘How can I live here?!’

I felt uncomfortable at the thought of living in a world that was too different from mine.

I was rolling my feet with facts that I didn’t want to believe.

Knock knock-

“Lena, are you in there?”

A strange woman’s voice was heard beyond the closed door.

Before I could say anything, a woman with red hair came in.

“There you are. Go get ready, we have to perform soon!”

“A performance? What…”

“What, is this a new game where you pretend to forget everything?”

“Yes?”

“And why aren’t you using honorifics? You know what, I’m very busy right now, let’s talk later.”

This woman pushed my back in a hurry.

‘Huh?’

Even at this moment, I’m getting pushed.

When I came back to my senses, we were backstage.

‘What’s this?’

The curtain rose while I was still confused. A man in a uniform with a sword on his waist was saying something to himself.

I was looking at the stage blankly, and the women who brought me here pushed my back again.

“What are you doing? It’s your turn!”

“Wait a minute…!”

“What do you mean wait a minute? Go quickly!”

I felt it before, but the woman with the red hair pushed really hard.

In the end, I couldn’t beat her strength and came out on stage.

The first thing I saw were dazzling lights and countless people.

I looked at the audience seats blankly, but the man who was speaking to himself approached me.

“Sara, you look beautiful today too.”

The man’s voice rang out as if he were using a microphone. But more than that, I was surprised by the thought that came into my head.

‘The next scene is where I greet him.’

What? How do I know this?

Above all, the man’s line seemed familiar to me. It feels like I read it somewhere…was it from the script?

Only then, did I remember the script I read when I was in the master bedroom, and why that woman with red hair left saying it was my turn.

Still, this situation was pretty sudden as the man blinked his eyes out of embarrassment. The man then knelt before me, while reaching his hands towards me.

“Because of your beauty, I am forced yet again to kneel before you today. Please greet me, my lady.”

At that moment, I didn’t know how, but that man was ad-libbing. (t/n ad-libbing means to substitute a line in a play.)

After that, the man glanced at me several times, as if to signal me to go say my next line.

‘Come to think of it, I am on stage…’

As I became aware of the situation, I made it my goal to not ruin the play.

“Get up now.”

As I opened my mouth, my voice resonated loudly on the stage. I was a little surprised at that, but I continued the line.

“No matter how beautiful I am, you don’t need to get on your knees for it.”

“If it’s you, I’ll kneel down any day.”

The ad-libbing I did was followed by the man’s ad-libbing again.

‘He’s a man with a lot of experience on stage.’

After that, the man naturally led me on throughout the play.

But there was a problem after that.

I said something out of the blue, but I didn’t know what to do next.

But that was a useless worry. Since lines flowed into my mind, just like when I first came out on stage.

The problem was the man didn’t give me a turn.

I don’t think he was ignoring me on purpose. However, my patient was running thin as he only gave me a chance to say a relatively short line.

I’d be grateful for the man’s actions if I didn’t know the lines at all or had no experience on stage …but his actions didn’t seem flattering to me.

It is my turn to say my lines again.

‘This man would do everything by himself, even my lines.’

Not surprisingly, he did what I expected.

‘I can’t stay still like this.’

I retraced the contents of the script. Although the lines always came to my mind, there were many cases where the lines came just before. To change this situation, you had to remember the script.

Fortunately, I did read the script earlier.

And also the part that comes after…

‘It’s the scene where Valere stops by Sara’s house for a while then he leaves.’

In the scene, I had to take the cloak that Valere hung on the hanger. That was the role of ‘Sara’, the character that I was playing.

However, if that was the case, that man could take the cloak by himself as well.

I waited until the man showed a gap. It was when the man who was leading the stage alone stopped talking because he was tired.

‘Now’s the time!’

Holding onto the opportunity, I quickly picked up the cloak that was hanging on the hook next to me.

I felt the man panic, but this was only the beginning.

“Wait a minute, Valere, you forgot this.”

“Uh…”

The man just smiled as if he thought that I forgot my lines.

In an instant, I turned the situation favorable to me, and I began to speak with a smile.

“You left it last time when you came here. It’s nice to see you again after a long time, but I think you should go back and take care of the people who were waiting for you. So take this with you.”

The first part was ad-libbed, but the second part was definitely part of the script.

The man’s eyes widened as he realized that. However, he soon regained his poker face and uttered his lines.

And this time, I was the one who did his lines.

After a few repetitions, the way they looked at me changed from how they were looking at me in the beginning.

‘I’m pretty good, right?’

The man’s eyes seemed to agree with me. He no longer took the stage alone.

Having completely taken care of me, he gave me a chance, and I was happy to meet his expectations.

As a result, the performance was successful. There were a few mistakes in the middle, but the man took care of it well, so the performance ended safely.

Clap clap clap-

When I bent down, applause poured out. The sound brought a smile to my face.

“haah…haah…”

I was out of breath since during the play I was moving my body and talking a lot, but I was still smiling and greeting the crowd.

Then the curtains started to close. It was then when the audience was completely out of sight, that I straightened my back.

“Here, take it. Do you want some water too?”

The woman with red hair gave me a towel and asked me that question. I nodded, and she gave me a cup. Oh, I felt alive again after drinking this water.

“What’s the matter with you today?”

“What?”

“You recited the lines perfectly! Besides, your facial expressions were so colorful. Did you fix your stage fright?”

Stage fright…?

“I know. At first, I thought it would be the same as usual, as in the beginning, you didn’t say your lines properly.”

The man who I had been working with on the stage jumped into the conversation.

“But I was surprised to see how skillful she was when she suddenly spoke in the middle. I don’t know how you overcame it, but it’s great.”

I was a little embarrassed.

‘So at the beginning where you did all that ad-libbing, you were used to it all along?’

Only then did I understand the man’s reaction of being surprised whenever he saw me delivering my lines properly on stage.

How surprised he had been when a person who had stage fright acted so well.

But I was also surprised.

‘If you have stage fright, then why are you the main actor in the play?’

The main actor is the most prominent character in the play.

Of course, you need to have good acting skills that match the standards, but this person didn’t meet any of those standards.

Just when I was going to ask about this situation more…

There was a full sound of jumping that could be felt in urgency just by listening. The owner of the sound of footsteps was a man with brown hair, whom I’ve never seen before.

“Lena, Viscount Casaro is looking for you!”

The man shouted with a loud voice and came on stage.

‘Who are you calling? Is it me? Or is it the girl next to me?’

As I tilted my head, the man beckoned me with a face full of annoyance.

“What are you doing there?”

M-Me?

At the same time, the woman next to me tapped my shoulders.

“Come on. Go to Bill, he’s looking for you.”

So, he was calling me?

I wasn’t aware of anything, so I was just confused. I was also a little scared, even though I thought I would be relieved to hear those words.

You never know when people will find out that I am another person.

Shouldn’t I have said that in the beginning? ‘I’m a different person’ I should have called.

Although I regretted not saying that, on the other hand, I was also glad that I didn’t.

They would’ve treated me like a crazy person. They wouldn’t believe me even if it is true.

‘It would also be useless to pretend to have amnesia.’

I finished the performance very well.

At this point, a sigh came out of my mouth as I was thinking it would be too late to change anything.

Still, the red-haired woman I saw earlier or the man I played together on stage didn’t seem to be bad people, so it wouldn’t be particularly dangerous to meet this person…?

I tried to console myself. And it was the first time I was following a man who called me, probably named ‘Bill’.

“Oh, Lena!”

When I looked up to see who called my name, a huge bouquet filled with roses blocked my view of sight.

“Today’s performance was great too! Of course, you are Miss Lena after all!”

“Oh, thank you…”

I was going to say hello reflexively, but I stiffened.

Because someone was holding my waist.

‘What is this?’

When I looked beside me with my bouquet in my arms, I saw a middle-aged man for the first time.

He was so short that I had to look down to be able to see him.

“What’s wrong?”

“Well, your hands…”

“Huh? Hands?”

“Well, you put your hands on my waist…”

“What? I’ve always done that though.”

You’ve always done this? Is this your lover or something?

Of course, there are people who have different tastes, but I don’t have the same taste as the previous owner of this body

No, how did you…with this guy?

While I was confused, the man continued to keep his hands on my waist.

“By the way, Miss Lena really looks like my daughter. She is really pretty.”

Daughter? Oh, that’s what he meant. Why would she have a romantic relationship with a man like that anyway?

I guess he just wanted to congratulate me with a bouquet.

That’s what I thought.

“You know what I mean, right? So today, it’s a little bit more…”

The man’s hand went further down.

And at that moment, when I realized what the man was touching, I turned white with anger and turned myself around.

I kicked him.

“Hey, you molester!”
