Chapter 30

When Edmund heard Vivian’s wail, he couldn’t believe his sister was normal.

If there had been any previous interaction between Vivian and Caleb, he may have tried to comprehend.

Despite knowing Edmund had a sister, Caleb didn’t know Vivian’s name or face.

Edmund’s unwillingness to discuss his sister played a role, but so did the fact that Vivian and Caleb had nothing to do with each other.

The only way for them to meet is at a banquet, but Caleb never went to one unless it was given by the imperial family.

Caleb didn’t stay long if there was one. Edmund couldn’t even say his greetings to Caleb.

Vivian never had a private encounter with Caleb at a banquet under these circumstances.

The same was true for the other young ladies.

That’s why they pulled their horse up to the Royal Knights’ front and committed foolish things.

Second, Vivian’s behaviour and pleas reminded him of a young lady who used to pursue Edmund and strive to meddle in his private life.

The young lady, a Countess’s daughter, too came into the Imperial Palace on the back of her mother’s influence, as did Vivian, and went to the Royal Knights under the guise of horse riding and got him in trouble.

Not only that, but in Edmund’s absence, the young lady would speak to people as if she were his fiancee.

‘She was a lunatic.’

Edmund eventually talked to his father and addressed the matter in the name of Marquis Vessel, but he was suffering terribly at the time and was obliged to remove any lady from the knight’s quarter for a while.

Unfortunately, the majority of what Vivian did was similar to what that young lady did.

As a result, Edmund was unable to feel even a glimmer of affection for his sister, much alone stare at her tenderly.

And that was the same reason he couldn’t comprehend why his father and mother had allowed Vivian to do what she had done.

They are aware of how much he suffered at the time, yet they did not intervene to restrain Vivian’s misbehaviour.

‘But, Vivian is not the same as the countess’s young lady at that time?’ said the Marquis in response to his concern.

As the Marquis stated it, Vivian’s actions were gentler than those of the young lady who chased him.

She hadn’t done much since the incident, but because Vivian had done other things, Edmund felt hesitant whenever he saw his sister, and he tried to avoid her as much as possible.

“Oh, my dear brother. Have you had your meal yet?”

“How come you’re asking?”

“Father and mother advised me to eat first because they’d both be late. So, if you haven’t eaten yet, I believe it’s better to eat together.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t have an appetite.”

“Can I then speak to you for a moment? Today I heard something from the tea party….!”

“I don’t believe I can because I have a job. I’ll talk to you again later.”

Edmund, who responded harshly, went into his room.

Even though he had only spoken with Vivian for a brief time, he was already exhausted.

He was massaging his neck as he walked up the stairs.

‘Come to think of it, wasn’t that person a woman as well?’

He had this sudden thought that talking to his sister could help him figure out what Elena wanted.

Edmund really crawled his lips to call Vivian.

But, before he could say anything, he bit his lower lip again.

‘I’d better ask my mother than her.’

Edmund straightened himself for a minute and walked up the stairs.

***

I came to a halt when I opened the office door without twisting the doorknob. Because of what Lord Vessel did the day before.

‘He wouldn’t do it again today, would he?’

I worried if it would happen again today, despite the fact that it had happened yesterday, but I couldn’t help but be concerned.

No, I don’t believe so. So let’s take a deep breath and relax.

‘Hoooo.’

After taking a deep breath and getting ready, I entered the office door and quickly checked my desk.

My desk was spotless.

‘Thank God.’

For a little period, I felt relieved, but as Lord Vessel entered, I got anxious without recognizing it.

Because I was terrified of what he might do.

He was, however, unusually silent. He just sat there with a serious expression on his face, and then he went out to the training ground in the afternoon.

‘What? Why is he so composed?’

I was perplexed by his odd demeanour, but I rummaged through the documents since I needed to do my job.

Knock-knock-

The knock on the door was soft, but I could plainly hear it.

It made me tilt my head at the sound, which was unlike the usual knocking of Caleb or Lord Vessel.

Who is it? Did the administration send someone like last time?

“Please wait a moment.”

I stood up from my seat and set down my busily moving quill pen.

When I opened the door, there was a woman my age standing there.

Her hair drew my attention before I could see her face.

The bright gold hair, which appeared pink at first glance, was quite striking.

I examined the woman’s face after staring at her hair for a long. And I was taken aback.

It was due to the woman’s wide-open eyes.

I was even more embarrassed because she looked as if she had witnessed something scary.

‘What’s the matter with her?’

I couldn’t figure out why the woman was shocked, so I looked at her and she opened her lips first.

“Hello.”

My ear was pierced by a distinct voice. She grinned as though astonished as she greeted me.

“Perhaps, Edmund Vessel……… is my brother in there?”

“Lord Vessel’s sister?”

“Yes.”

Unbeknownst to the woman’s consent, I started to scrutinize her.

I’m not sure if it was because of her grass-green eyes, slightly drooping brows, and thick features, but she reminded me of lily.

She was a stunning beauty with an even more stunning aura.

‘Lord Vessel has such a sweet and lovely sister!’

No wonder it was shocking.

It was made worse by the fact that they didn’t resemble each other at all.

Their only resemblance is the colour of their eyes.

“Lord Vessel isn’t inside right now. He’s on the training ground. Maybe he’ll return later, but for now……”

I was about to ask, ‘Do you want me to call for him?’ but I stopped myself.

Because I recall the episode when I was searching for Caleb near the training grounds and she became a sightseeing attraction.

Of course, Caleb stated that he would not allow this to happen again, and since many people had apologized, the same incident would not occur again if I went there.

But I didn’t dare to go to the training ground.

I smiled, attempting to disguise my quivering palms after recalling the previous incident.

“Will you wait for Lord Vessel to come? I’ll take the chair out for you.”

I was going to take Lord Vessel’s chair, of course.

It wasn’t like I was going to sit there and do nothing. I’m just allowing his sister to sit down, so he’ll understand.

“No, I’m perfectly fine. I’m not here to visit my brother, in fact.”

She didn’t come to see Lord Vessel?

“May I then inquire as to the reason for your visit?”

“Oh, that’s…….”

It was just as the woman was ready to say something to me.

The frantic sound of footsteps sounded out in the hall, and Lord Vessel stormed in, swinging open the door.

“Lady Oreu, are you……!”

Lord Vessel’s eyes, all sweaty as if he was running from the training ground to here, stopped at his sister.

And he frowned to indicate his displeasure. To the extent that it is hard to believe that he just saw his biological sister.

“Vivian Vessel.”

“Oh, brother.”

His voice calling for his brother was also very firm.

How can he look at his sister in such a way…… Wait a second.

What exactly did Lord Vessel just say?

Vivian Vessel?

I was shocked.

It was a name I hadn’t heard in a long time, yet it immediately sprang to me when I heard it.

The heroine’s name.

I hurried through Vivian’s appearance.

I thought her pinkish blonde hair and green eyes were unusual and lovely. A beauty who is graceful, innocent, and lovely.

It had the same appearance as the heroine I remembered.

‘Is she truly the heroine?’

Despite my concerns, I was sure that this woman, Vivian, was the heroine.

There could be no other person with the same appearance and name as her.

However, I had not expected to be faced with Vivian in this situation, so I looked blankly.

Meanwhile, Lord Vessel approached us and questioned Vivian vehemently.

“What brings you here? Did you sell my name to the front-gate guards again? To meet with the commander?”

“Well, I’m…”

“Are you taking my warning seriously when I said don’t do it again?”

The mood soon darkened. I didn’t know what to do because I was trapped between two siblings.

What exactly is going on here?

Who is trying to sell whose name?

Commander… was he referring to Caleb?

Vivian screamed out regretfully as I squinted at the unintelligible dialogue.

“I’m not here to see him!”

“You want me to believe that?”

“It’s a complete misunderstanding. I only came because mother had requested me to…….”

“Ha? Now you’re making excuses in the name of the mother?”

“No! That’s what I’m saying. Mother requested that I do it. Believe me, brother.”

“Don’t tell any lies. Why did mother assign you to the Knight’s quarter? For what purpose?

“She heard that brother had gone to all the famous stores where women typically frequented.” Also, the location where it was received was the Royal Knights’ office, thus…”

“How did you find out about that?”

“Wha, what?”

“You stated that you heard I was going to those stores. That indicates it wasn’t either mother or you who were spying on me. So, tell me, who told you that?”

“The young ladies informed me yesterday at the tea party. Everyone wanted to know if brother had a lover.”

“So you told mother that, and she sent you to check to see if it was real or not?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“You and others are pointlessly preoccupied with other people’s situations. Damn you.”

Lord Vessel repeated while gritting his teeth.

Vivian and I both shuddered at the same moment.

Lord Vessel was shorter than Caleb, yet he was taller than the average adult male.

Furthermore, being a knight, he had a very muscular body, which was frightening.

Rather, it indicated that what was happening now was the result of what Lord Vessel did the day before?

Was she here because she mistook me for Lord Vessel’s lover?

No, I don’t believe so.

“This person is brother’s lover, right? The person to whom you offer gifts….”

…… I was dumbfounded.

So she mistook me for her brother’s girlfriend.

“Stop blathering rubbish. Lady Oreu is not a lover of mine.”

Lord Vessel spoke unequivocally.

Bravo, Lord Vessel!

Despite the fact that I didn’t like him, I was cheering for him this time.

“And if there’s such a rumour, you may ask me, but why did you come all the way here?”

“I was planning on asking brother first. But you never gave me a chance…….”

“And is that why you came here? Personally?”

His voice was filled with uncontrollable rage.

“Enough of your excuses; I don’t want to hear those here, so just follow me.” Don’t even think of saying anything else stupid.”

“I can’t do that!”

“Vivian Vessel!”

Edmund growled, but Vivian was uncharacteristically tough.

“Ah, there’s still something left to do with Lady Oreu! I’ll come back as soon as we’ve sorted it out, brother. I swear.”

Vivian made a direct plea to Lord Vessel.

‘She had something to do with me?’

She wasn’t simply checking the facts?

Lord Vessel questioned back, his head cocked in astonishment.

“What kind of business is it?”

“Ugh, it’s personal. But I swear I’m not going to let brother get into any problems!”

“I’m already in hot water because of your behaviour. Did you come to the Knight’s quarter despite not having scheduled an appointment? Come on out! Come with me.”

“I’m sorry. My thoughts were short.”

“Enough, I don’t want to hear anything further. Come on out.”

Edmund seized Vivian’s arm.

“Wait for a second, brother! I would like to say something to her……!”

As she was being dragged, Vivian glanced at me with interest.

“Please wait. Lord Vessel!”
