Time seemed to be at a standstill. Cherish and Carlos sat silently together. They perhaps took conscious efforts to ensure that their eyes never met.

Amidst the eerie silence, Carlos abruptly blurted out, "Thank you."

Cherish was slightly surprised to hear his voice. As she was preparing to respond to it, he had already risen up. She could feel the sudden loss of weight from her shoulders as well as the emptiness in her aching heart.

Sadly, she shook her head and forced a smile. If he had looked carefully, he would have noticed the massive wave of sadness in her eyes.

"Ms. Shen, you are a wonderful girl. However, I don't think we are meant to be together. I hope you can find someone who really deserves you, so that you can spend the rest of your life happily with him."

His words were sincere and he seemed earnest. Carlos stared at her face with the most profound feelings in his eyes. He knew that he had to speak openly to Cherish. He had to clear the air around this matter sooner than later. If he didn't reveal it now, he would only end up hurting her even more.

Cherish's face froze in a moment of shock. She looked so pale that he found it extremely hard to continue. However, he cleared his throat, swallowed hard, and finally said, "I know it sounds cruel as of now. But I do hope you can manage to call off the wedding. Regardless of the reason you intend to use, I will accept it without any objection whatsoever."

Before she could think of any plausible reply, she burst into tears. She had never expected this; just several minutes ago, she had had the opportunity to start a relationship with Carlos, and now, he was actually proposing to break off their engagement altogether.

If she hadn't been wide awake at this moment, she would have considered all this to be a boring plot in a bizarre movie.

Ironically, it was she who was rather living an actual movie. Such boring plots seemed to hit her hard. It forced her to feel the tearing pain in her vulnerable heart. The whole world seemed to spin around her head.

"Carlos, are you serious?" She looked at him with a tilted head, her big beautiful eyes full of pain and expectation. A glimmer of hope that he would retract his decision shone brightly in her eyes. The moment she saw the firm determination in his eyes, her expectation instantly transformed into an endless saga of disappointment.

Cherish curled her lips in agony and finally whispered weakly, "Why do you treat me like this? Is it because of the person who used you and made you feel horrible?"

Hearing her soft and inquisitive voice, Carlos shut his eyes in excruciating pain. He remained silent against her accusation. Although he didn't say anything, his answer was obvious to Cherish due to his expressions.

Indeed, this world was filled with irony. One might be willing to give up anything in their lives for the sa

er, to her great surprise, she spotted a bright smile on Cherish's half-dried face. Then, she heard her saying briskly, "Auntie, I'm fine. From today onwards, I'll start cultivating a formal relationship with Carlos and see how it develops! I hope you can help me with it!"

There was a clear change of expression on Leah's face. She was surprised to hear her declaration. She had never thought that Cherish could adjust her mood to adapt to the situation so quickly.

She approached her, held her hand tightly and patted her gently on the back. "Oh, Cherish, you are the only daughter-in-law in my heart. If you need anything, please let me know. I will try my best to help you out!" With these words, Leah gave her an assuring look.

The atmosphere seemed to become happier and more harmonious. Still worried about his little sister, Perrin couldn't help but stare at Cherish with a serious look on his face. Eventually, he couldn't hold it in and abruptly suggested, "Cherish, if you want to find a good husband, I can introduce countless magnificent men to you. You really don't have to force yourself into any more disasters."

His words came out before he could actually process them in his mind. Perrin knew they might have sounded rude in front of Leah, but he was too sorry for his stupid sister to care. She was always single-minded and stubborn. He couldn't afford to see her hurting herself yet again.

Cherish shook her head slowly yet firmly. She looked at Perrin in the eye and said earnestly, "Brother, I know there are people who are better than him out there, but the person that I fell in love with was Carlos! You should know what my heart desires. Think about it, would you leave Xandria for someone as excellent as her? My heart only yearns for him, no one else."

Perrin chose to remain silent as a response. Of course, he wouldn't leave Xandria for anyone. She had just made an excellent point.
