Ellen's trial date was drawing near. So in the end, Estelle couldn't bear to see her suffer. Having grown up together, she felt obliged to find the best lawyer for Ellen.

In the court, there was no evidence submitted that had been obtained from the crime scene where Hanley had died. In addition, the situation was quite complicated at that time, which led to his inappropriate behavior in the first place. Finally, the lawyer filed a plea of self-defense for Ellen.

In the end, Ellen was sentenced to a term of six months in prison.

She had received a very light sentence.

After being in prison for less than a week, Ellen called Estelle and said that she wanted to see her and that she had something important to tell her.

After waiting behind the glass window in the visitor's room for a while, Estelle saw Ellen shuffle in on the opposite side of the window. Ellen was in a prison uniform and walked in with a pair of handcuffs on her hands. The correctional officer loosened her, and she rubbed her wrists briefly. She looked very haggard after only a week. She sat opposite Estelle expressionlessly, and they both reached for the phone at the same time.

Estelle's eyes couldn't help but glisten with tears. She picked up the phone and gasped, "Sister."

No matter how disappointed Estelle was in Ellen, Estelle had always protected her little sister since they were children. Estelle couldn't bear to see her suffer like this.

"Sister, long time no see," Ellen said gently, her eyes filling with a barely concealed hostility.

Estelle looked at her with a distressed face, and spoke with a lump in her throat. "Ellen, no matter what happens from now on, please tell me immediately, okay? I will try my best to protect you. You'd better behave while you serve your sentence in prison now. After all, it isn't that long. Then, you can get out."

"Protect me?" Ellen taunted. "If you really wanted to protect me, you wouldn't have put me in jail!" she scolded.

Estelle was taken aback by this accusation and frowned. She wiped her tears and whispered, "Ellen, how can you say that? You killed a man. Although it was self-defense, you still took a life, and you were sentenced. Is it not right that there is a punishment for killing in this world? Haven't you realized your mistake yet?"

Ell

He had spent so many days and nights with her, and he had demonstrated his love for her. Was it all just a disguise so that he could keep his fresh pickings?

Estelle didn't want to believe it, and she couldn't believe it either.

Seeing her sister's reaction, Ellen knew that her words had hit the mark. With a contemptuous sneer at her sister, she continued, "Sister, I am simply telling you the truth. You can ask Ethan yourself if you don't believe me. Just see how he reacts when you do and how he replies to you!"

'Estelle has ruined my life by putting me in jail, so I will ruin her happiness in return!' she thought.

Ellen knew that this matter would continue raging in Estelle's heart for days to come. It would not be stopped now.

"Do you have any proof? Where is your evidence?"

When Ellen was about to answer, the correctional officers came in. One of them spoke with an expressionless face. "Sorry, visiting hours are over. We need to take her back to her cell now."

Ellen stared at Estelle, savoring the horror on her elder sister's face. "Sister, Ethan has truly never liked you. You are only a tool to ease his loneliness!"

Ellen's words lanced into Estelle's heart like a red-hot needle. Because visiting hours were over, Ellen had barely finished the last sentence when she was taken back to the cell by the officers. Estelle remained seated by the glass, still clutching the phone for a couple of minutes. Utterly shell-shocked, she only realized that it was time to go when someone asked her to leave.
