Bonnie had thought that Darren was right. If they sought medical treatment from a new doctor, they wouldn't know for sure if the new one was capable of treating the wound or not. Due to this consideration, she had agreed.

She had arrived at Darren's manor at the time that she had promised him. Darren had been busy with answering phone calls with a tight frown etched on his forehead.

He had left after he welcomed her to the manor.

Bonnie had stayed at the manor for many days, but she had not seen Darren again. She had called him and sent him many short messages. However, he had seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. He hadn't replied to her communications at all.

Of course, Bonnie couldn't reveal this to Emily. Although she was kind and hadn't given it a second thought when she saved Darren, she was actually smart. She had always feigned weakness in front of Emily just to ensure her own safety.

Most importantly, Bonnie subconsciously knew that there was really something wrong with the "Mr. Yu" she had saved.

"It's late. Go to bed early." Emily understood that Bonnie didn't want to mention the man's injuries, so she did not ask any more questions.

With that, she quietly walked out of the room, giving Bonnie the space to do some independent thinking.

After a while, Bonnie walked to Emily's room and said, "Emily, I have thought it over. I will ask the landlady to return the rent I have paid. I've paid a fair deposit to her. Even if I breached the lease agreement, the landlady only has the right to deduct my deposit."

"Yes, you're right. But I'm afraid that you might get bullied since you are just a young girl. Shall I accompany you?" Emily volunteered to support her, although she knew that it was none of her business.

However, she wasn't sure if Bonnie would accept her proposal or not.

Of course, it might seem suspicious if she became impatient, so her suggestion had been phrased tentatively.

"Well..." Bonnie was a little hesitant upon hearing Emily's suggestion. However, seeing that Emily seemed to be really earnest about helping her, she nodded decisively. "The landlady is very rude. We must be careful!"

"No problem." In order to allay any of Bonnie's fears, Emily put her thumb up with the 'OK' gesture.

After Bonnie and Emily had met and negotiated with the landlady, Bonnie stood amazed, staring at the seven thousand dollars in her hand. She still couldn't understand how it was possible for her to have gotten the rent back so easily. Thus, she asked Emily in a daze, "Emily, why was the landlady so kind? She seemed to have been ready to return the seven thousand dollars to me before

ked up at Ethan, but didn't ask anything more.

She couldn't shake the feeling that he was lying to her.

"Estelle, I will take you home after dinner, okay?" Ethan had been even busier these past few days. It had been a long time since he had taken Estelle out to dinner.

"Are you heading out to the base again?" Recently, Ethan had been increasingly occupied–even being preoccupied when they were together. Estelle could feel this as well.

He would always say that he was going to the base, but after he didn't answer his phone several times in a row, she had called the head of the base, only to be told that Ethan hadn't been there in a while.

Therefore, Estelle had intentionally asked him the question. After slowly blinking his dark eyes, Ethan replied, "Well, there are more and more things requiring my attention at the base, and my presence is needed there to handle these things."

Estelle did not question his lie. She looked down at the vermicelli in her bowl, put the chopsticks down, and smiled tightly. "I can take a taxi home."

"No. Let me drive you home." At Ethan's insistence, Estelle agreed with a small nod, and he drove her home safely.

Estelle looked around at the opulent decorations of the mansion where she had now lived for some time. Suddenly, she felt strangely out of place here. What Ellen had said at the prison began echoing loudly in her mind. She couldn't help swallowing as she walked around the house step by step.

She knew that Ethan would not be back for hours, so she needed to do something that she had neither the courage nor desire to do.

It was undeniable that Ethan had treated her very well. However, it was exactly because this man was so kind and excellent that she had come to lose all her sense of security.
