"Are you trying to scare me to death? You snuck up on me like a cat," She scolded him. Emily raised her hands to cover her heart, which was beating fast and fearfully. She turned around and glared at the man who had so surprised her, and gave him a small shove, "When did you come back?"

"Just now." Reaching out to hold her in his arms, Jacob rested his chin on her shoulder, contented with this demure beauty in his embrace. Then he asked lovingly, "How is Beryl today?"

Her mood greatly improved at the thought of Beryl, and she smiled in answer, "I think that she's getting better and better, slowly but surely. At least she's coming out of her shell more, and not as grumpy as before."

"That's great. If we give it time, she'll be alright." He kissed her tenderly on the brow and placed his warm hands over her growing stomach, gently stroking it, as he said, "Here, our other child is in your belly now. You should also take care of it ..."

"Shoo! I'm going to cook breakfast. Get out of here." A little embarrassed by his roving hands, she was nervously trying to drive him away. But as she waved her hands, she accidentally bumped into his chest with her wounded arm, which instantly started throbbing painfully. She gasped softly and took a deep breath to manage the pain, letting out a hissed breath.

Frowning, he bent to examine her hand, "What's wrong? Did you hurt yourself?" he asked in a concerned tone.

"It's all right!" She replied evasively and pulled back her hand. She had deliberately worn long sleeves to cover the wound on her arm, so that he would not find out about the previous night's incident. "Your chest is so hard, it was like hitting granite. I'm just teasing, love. I'm okay now. So, get out of here and let me cook breakfast. Please don't bother me so much," She said brusquely.

"Baby, my chest is not my only hard part ... You know that." An evil, seductive expression flashed on his features and he chuckled lightly.

Emily instantly grasped his meaning and blushed furiously, feeling angry and embarrassed at his lewdness. She used the spatula to drive him off, while he laughed heartily.

"Jacob!" She raised her voice, warning that he should quit making salacious remarks.

He lifted his hand and suddenly pinched her rosy cheeks.

"Huh?" Surprised, she reached up to her cheek, and he quickly took hold of her hand opening the long sleeve. He moved fast, and she had no chance to stop him, "Don't do that ..." she objected in vain.

But it was too late. The long sleeves were lifted; her bandaged arm and secret were revealed.

"Why didn't you tell me that you're hurt?" He scolded her in a concerned tone. He frowned deeply when he saw the bloodstained bandage.

He had noticed that something was amiss, when Emily had

l never change until I die."

"You ..." She suddenly felt angry at his avowal, and said, "I don't want to hear the word—die."

"Okay, I won't use it again." He smiled.

After the tense exchange, he reached over and fed Beryl a bit of steamed egg custard, and gently wiped her mouth with a handkerchief. He did this so naturally, almost instinctively, as if he had done this many times before.

If his subordinates could see this pastoral scene with their own eyes, their jaws would hit the floor.

President Gu, who was a cruel business man, and never afforded his enemies a chance to survive, was capable of doing something so loving as feeding his daughter at home. What an unbelievable phenomenon! Truthfully, he was a really good father, and would be a good husband.

...

That night, it was time to rest.

Emily checked Beryl's room several times to make sure there were no sharp, or dangerous objects, before she rested assured and tucked her in.

"Beryl, remember to wake Mommy up whenever you need. Don't be afraid. I'll be with you all the time."

She nodded obediently and climbed into the bed, then asked with watery eyes, "Mommy, do you still feel pain?"

"No, I'm okay now," her mother reassured. Emily bent down to kiss her daughter's face and continued in a soft voice, "Don't blame yourself. My Beryl never hurt me. It's another devil, hidden in your body that did it to me. It had nothing to do with you."

"Mommy ..."

"I know you didn't mean it. You're just sick, but it doesn't matter. Let's drive the devil away together, okay?"

"Okay," Beryl promised firmly. Her heart was finally filled with warmth and love which radiated from her mother. She felt strengthened and was determined to fight against the evil in her body, no matter what.

All her efforts would go towards driving this abhorrent devil away!
