Emily noticed the despair in his face and she asked, "Hey! Are you all right? How are you feeling? I'll go and call the doctor. Wait..."

Jacob grabbed her hand and with a naive look, he said, "No doctor! Just blow on my wound."

"What?" she exclaimed in disbelief. Emily was nonplussed, but she found his answer amusing. She giggled and said, "Well, I don't know what good that will do because I don't have any magical powers. I don't think my breath is going to cure you."

"No! It will. Just blow!" Jacob begged her.

Her heart melted at his innocence. "All right! All right!"

She leaned forward and slowly blew on his chest, which at the time looked silly on some level.

"Well, do you feel better now?"

"Yes!" Jacob answered with a child-like smile.

Emily breathed a sigh of relief, but when she thought about what happened just then, she got serious at once. "You can't do that again. Do you understand?"

Jacob had no idea about what she was talking about. "Do what?"

"I mean, I mean..." Emily felt a little embarrassed, but she continued to explain, "You can't hug me like that. It's very flirtatious and definitely not appropriate behavior."

Jacob looked puzzled. "What do you mean flirtatious?"

Emily suddenly realized that she had said too much and perhaps it wasn't her place to tell him that. She anxiously explained, "It means... it means bad things."

Jacob shook his head, looking even more puzzled than before. "What bad things?"

"You are still too young to know about these things," Emily answered. Emily felt that the sooner she'd change the topic the better it would be for the both of them. "I saved your life and brought you here. I'm the boss here, so you should do as I say. Do you understand?"

"Yes!"

"As long as you follow my orders without asking any questions, everything will be just fine."

"Okay!" Jacob answered and nodded in a trance.

Emily understood that his mind was only capable of processing certain things at a time, so she stopped to relieve his stress. "Since you have the difficulty of remembering things and clearly you have nowhere to go, you can stay in my house until you recover. But if you're going to stay here we'll have to figure out what you're going to address me as."

Jacob attentively observed Emily

the maids thought to themselves.

The person Emily had described to the maids was completely different from the moody and cruel Sean they all knew and feared.

Emily had only seen Sean's gentle side.

It was clear that Emily had never seen his other side.

"Come on! I trust my judgement. Don't worry! I will take responsibility for everything. No one will blame you if anything happens."

After she ordered the maids to leave, Emily leafed through a French book in her hand as she walked to a carved pillar along the corridor. "Who's there? Are you a thief?"

When the man heard her voice, he quickly hid behind the carved pillar and lowered his head in shame.

Emily waited for a while, but she didn't see him coming out. She lost her patience and threw the book away before walking over to him. "Why are you sitting here like that? Are you hatching eggs?"

The man, almost like a big dog, squatted behind the pillar and lowered his head despondently. If he was a real dog, he might have drooped his tail and ears now.

"Hey! What's the matter?" Emily asked him with puzzlement.

She leaned forward to pull him up, but she failed to do so because he didn't want to get up. Then she said, "If you don't get up now, I will abandon you!"

Emily's words stimulated him as he looked up at her at once with moist and red eyes. He looked so upset. It seemed as though he was going to burst into tears any moment.

Emily could not believe what she was seeing. 'What's going on? Why are you crying?' Emily wondered.
