Sieg POV

==========

“Umm, is all of that really Earth Extract?”

“Eh? Yes. It’s the same as the one purchased by Lordess, or was it not?”

“No, well-“

I had begun business talks regarding Earth Extract, which was the purpose of my visit.

However, Aria-san shot a troubled look at me as soon as we began.

This is a problem.

‘Earth Extract’ is inherently an invaluable resource.

Even a small vial of it, enough to fit in the palm of your hand, was enough to be priced at a few gold coins.

The same ‘Earth Extract’ was right now filled in a jar the size of a human’s torso.

That much should be enough to erect your own castle with.

“I’m sorry, but we sold this much to the Lordess at 1 small gold coin, so I can’t go below that price.”

“I see, is that the case.”

‘Earth Extract’ in a vial that size should be sold for a few gold coins at the very least.

It seems that the Margravine bought it at a steal; but oh well, with this volume it’s natural to think it might be fake.

Still, buying this Earth Extract at the price of 1 small gold coin will rake in quite the profit.

This was a great deal for me.

It might seem like I’m cheating, but buying low and selling high is the prime principle of a trader.

“…Aria-san. That Earth Extract can only be made by someone highly profficient in alchemy, so a small bottle that size worth of it should be sold for a few gold coins, at least.”

“Eh?”

After contending it for a while, I decided to tell her the truth.

Rather than considering short-term profits, building good relations with this person would be a lot more profitable in the long run.

I was convinced of that.

“The Lordess must not have been convinced of its authenticity which is why she bought it so cheaply, but you should price it at least above 1 gold coin.”

“No way… He never said anything…”

“Alchemists usually have one or two screws lose, as you may have noticed. I’m sure you might not have known, but Earth Extract isn’t something you casually see everywhere. If word spreads, you may even find people who would try and kill you just to lay their hands on it.”

“Is that, so. I’ll be more careful next time.”

I smiled as gently as possible towards Aria-san, who seemed a little sunk.

“It’ll be fine as long as you practice caution. For now I shall buy only this one bottle, is that alright?”

“…Um, I’d like to ask you for something…”

“? What is it?”

A single alchemy pot was worth the price of a castle.

“I’m not sure where to get my hands on one. We have no choice but to wait for the next set of excavated items to enter the market and I have no clue when that’d be.”

This was the biggest problem with alchemy pots.

They were impossible to make with current techniques, so everything depended on excavations.

It’s not like they found one in every excavation cycle either.

“Could you hold one for us when it arrives?”

“They’re usually pretty expensive, so it’s questionable whether I’ll even be able to do that…”

If it’s from the largest trading company in the country, we’d surely be able to buy one off of them, but we’d definitely run out of working capital in the process.

“It’s fine even if it’s used or broken.”

“Eh!? Are those really fine with you?”

“Yes. I was told as much.”

What was it?

Did they intend to use it as scrap material?

In that case, I have two pots which that alchemist pawned off to me, nay, gifted me.

“If that’s case, I have a handle on two right now. I shall bring them with me the next time.”

“Ho. I’d be grateful for that. Could we pay them off with this bottle of Earth Extract–“

“WHAT DID YOU SAY?”

I unconsciously let out a weird voice.

There’s no way that garbage and this Earth Extract were equal in value.

“Of course, we’ll make however much we lack right now to pay you in full. Alchemy pots are quite expensive after all, so I’d like you to take this much as an advance payment.”

“…Understood. I accept.”

It seems that this Aria-san really didn’t understand the value of Earth Extract fully.

Could this alchemy master really produce Earth Extract that easily?

…I don’t think I’ll be satisfied until I pay her the appropriate price for it.

Let’s have the alchemy master back home appraise it, and bring the change the next time I come here with the pots.

“When would you like it?”

“We’re not particularly in a hurry, and we even thought of waiting till spring to head the capital and buy it.”

“Understood.”

Let’s prepare them as soon as possible.

Also by the next time, It would be better to find someone promising and have them work from here.

While thinking so, I continued our discussions.

***

“Was it really fine? Sieg-san. I’m sure you planned on staying longer to negotiate, didn’t you?”

“Yeah. However, my trading partner didn’t even now the value of what they were selling. That’s no way of carrying out a trade. That said, if we single-handedly came back with huge profits, it would make the Margravine wary of us.”

We rounded up the negotiations and left the village.

We sold them metals and spices on our side, while they sold us what they found in the Demon Forest, like tea leaves.

Truthfully, I’d thought of staying there a few days and buying Earth Extract as cheaply as I possibly could, but to think I would get a barter of all their Earth Extract in exchange for a another item.

There wasn’t any point in sticking around anymore.

“If Sieg-san says that, I guess it’s fine.”

“Besides, I plan on heading back there anyways. Before spring, when the snowfall recedes.”

“Eh? Are you serious?”

“Yeah. Once spring arrives, that village will surely become the center of attention. I want another bite out of it before that happens.”

This time, I received various orders other than the alchemy pots so we’ve set up a connection, but that’s not enough.

This village shall bear us great profits.

I held trust in this fact.
