Facing the little girl's accusations, Butler Limo was quick to shake his head in his defense.

"But Young Miss, I tried!" He clamored with his eyes wide open.

Yvonne squinted at him with doubt apparent in her eyes while crossing her arms across her chest.

Her stance proved that she was not accepting the answer he was giving her.

'It's a good thing that I did not accuse Papa of cheating before knowing the whole truth.' She thanked her lucky stars for that would have led to a whole other mess for her to clean up.

She then continued to stare at the Butler who was the cause of this.

If he had reported to her when she had inquired about it then she wouldn't have misunderstood what had taken place.

Butler Limo pouted after she spoke and bowed his head.

"It was the circumstances that caused this to happen, Miss. I had no intention of keeping you in the dark." He muttered in a low voice and glanced at her as he raised his head.

His statement made her recall the events after she had returned home and realized that he wasn't lying to save himself.

The first time that he had tried to stop them from entering the office, he was trying to signal to her by shaking her head that her father had not done anything wrong and that he did not wish to be disturbed at present.

However, at that moment, Yvonne had interpreted his actions as though he was trying to hinder them from knowing who was inside the office.

Then when her mother had entered the office, he had sent the maids away and was about to speak up about what had happened when they heard the sound of glass breaking inside the room.

This once again disrupted their conversation as they fixed their attention to what might be taking place inside.

Thus, the poor Butler was denied the chance to report the events even when he had all the intentions of doing so.

'Okay, I get it already!' The little girl rolled her eyes when she saw his pitiful appearance.

"Now we have the time so give me all the details." She ordered and pushed her door open.

The Butler watched as his Young Miss entered her room and turned around when she found him standing in the same position as earlier.

'Does he want a Royal Invitation to enter my room?' She scoffed and gestured for him to follow.

Butler Limo hesitated for a second but nodded and followed after her.

Glancing around the room as he walked in, he stepped in the direction she was moving and stopped when she did.

The last time that he had come into this room was when he was preparing it for the newborn baby girl of the Countess.

After which, he had never gotten the chance nor the need to enter this room as the maids were the ones to serve the baby girl all along.

His Young Miss who was a few years older now, took her seat next to the study table by the window and looked up at him.

'Look at how time flies.' He thought to himself as a smile appeared on his face.

Yvonne did not know the cause of this smile but she did not probe about it as she was curious about a different matter.

"Tell me everything you know." She repeated her instruction and received a quick nod from him.

Butler Limo, who was loyal to the Earl had nothing to hide from her as his Master had done no wrong today.

Therefore, the proud old man did not hesitate before telling her everything he knew.

"Miss, I do not know what happened inside the office but I do know everything that happened after the Master summoned me inside!" He announced in a confident tone.

Yvonne grimaced when she heard his first statement but could do nothing.

'It would be weird if Paula tried to seduce Papa while the Butler was still inside the room.' She was reasonable and did not find fault with him for being ignorant about this.

Nodding her head, she sat in silence and waited for him to narrate what she had missed.

While the Butler began his version of the events that took place today, Rutherford and Raylene had returned to their bedroom.

The Earl had managed to calm his disturbed wife who was now asleep on the bed.

'All that crying has exhausted her.' He surmised as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

His wife who had just lost someone whom she had considered close to her, had wept once again after their child and Butler had left the area.

Rutherford did his best to remain silent and let her vent her anger and frustrations after which he carried her over to their room and laid her on the bed.

He even helped her get out of the heavy gown that she was wearing to ease her discomfort.

Within minutes, his wife had drifted off to the land of slumber thanks to the fatigue of the day.

Now as she laid in her pure white lacy camisole dress which functioned as the inner garment for the gowns she wore, he continued to stroke her hair while she slept.

Rutherford made sure to not make any noise to ensure that her sleep wasn't disturbed and stared at the ceiling as he leaned against the backrest of the bed.

Closing his eyes as well, he recalled the events of the day which had led to where they were right now.

___

The events of the day,

After receiving news about his wife and child's safe arrival at the Serenity Haven Inn, Rutherford was relieved and began focusing on his duties as the Fief Lord.

He had a lot to do and very little time to finish it and hence he did not waste any more time as he got back to work.

He did not know how much time had passed but stopped his work when there was a knock on the door.

Lifting his head, he commanded the person to enter and found that it was his trusted servant who had come inside.

Butler Limo was already well acquainted with his schedule so he brought over the Earl's lunch right on time.

Since his family was not at home, Rutherford did not bother to dine in the Dining Hall and chose to eat right here to save some time.

With the Butler serving him, the Earl finished his lunch and went right back to work.

Butler Limo too returned to his duty of standing outside and guarding the Master's door.

However, ignorant of the plan his daughter had cooked up with the Butler, he continued to work diligently but his Butler had not done the same.

Unknown to him, his Butler had stepped away from the door which allowed a certain someone to finally make their move.

*Knock knock*

The knock on the door had disturbed him but he did not look up as he permitted his Butler to enter the room.

But he soon realized that the person who had walked in was not his Butler but someone else due to his keen sense of smell.

'This fragrance…' He blinked and glanced up only to find that the newcomer was not the old man but a young woman.

The same young woman that his wife had not taken with her on the trip to allow her to rest well.

'So why is she here?' He wondered with a frown appearing on his face.

Furrowing his brows, Rutherford gazed at the maid and found that there was a tray with a teapot and cup on it.

"Who asked you to come here?" He interrogated in a cold voice which made the woman stiffen up.

But in the next second, the maid mustered up the courage and confidence that she had been oozing as she made her way to this room.

"Master, the Butler sent me here." She lied and glanced down at the tea.

Paula knew that she was playing a dangerous game right now but she had to take this chance if she wished to obtain that good life she had always yearned for.

Rutherford's frown did not ease but he nodded and signaled towards the couch.

"Place it there then leave." He ordered and went back to his work.

The maid chewed her lower lip as this was not a part of her plan.

She needed to remain here and get closer to him or she wouldn't be able to achieve her goal.

"Master, please have some tea while it is still hot." She uttered in a soft voice in an attempt to convince him.

Rutherford's hand which was writing halted as he looked up once again.

The cold glare he directed towards the maid was proof that he was not pleased with her interference but she was not deterred.

"Madam would be unhappy if you worked too hard without rest." She expressed that her concern was for her Mistress who would be distressed if he did not take a break.

This statement softened his glare as he smiled at the thought of his wife.

He glanced down at the papers, missing the glint of hatred that had passed through the maid's eyes when she noticed his change at the mention of the Madam's name.

'Better not sit here.' He decided after taking a look at the table which was covered with files, papers, and folders.

Therefore, he rose from his seat and walked towards the couch which caused the maid's eyes to sparkle as things were beginning to look up for her.
