“Well, As for the rest, I already started an emergency plan and ordered ingredients to make fire pills. We also asked nearby villagers to set a piece of land to grow some before winter and grow more trees good for firewood. Most think we are just planning for a colder than usual winter” Wood element cultivators could grow trees within days if they had enough strength but villagers usually had a low cultivation and teamed up to stack the magic for that.

“It is not enough. Due to the refugees, we lack spiritual stones to buy from outside the city” said aunt Yan.

“We could ask for donations? After the official announcement about the upcoming freezing winter, we could suggest a monuments for big donors” that was an example from some my sister’s ‘future empress’ type of novels

“We could teach as many people with fire root to use it to protect themselves and their loved ones from freezing out or getting sick” Using spiritual roots for everyday use was not something low level cultivators would do normally but it would be the easiest for them to learn.

“We can also ask sects to help us by sending alchemy and array students to make the fire pill and setting a heating array in the surrounding villages. It would be good practice for them…even if the sects refuse, we could set up alchemy and array lessons and have us, students from the school, help. We will only learn the level 1 fire pills and level 1 heating array and most villagers have low to no level cultivation so they could use only level 1 anyway” I continued my rumbling

silence

“Xiao Shin, not everyone is as good at learning as you. Most students would take months, if ever, to learn to make a level 1 pill. And that is after wasting a lot of herbs we cannot afford to waste right now” answered aunt Yan

“As you said, most would take time to learn, not all. Who knows if some are hidden geniuses in those fields? I might not even have the skills to learn alchemy and array but even if only 1 or 2 students find out that they have good abilities, it would be extra workers that could be used. Especially if those with good abilities come from the free section. They would be willing to help the villagers.

As for wasting herbs, School has a lot of space, so we can allocate some for growing the herbs. Students who have wood, water and earth roots can help grow what we need. It could be good for their cultivation practices. Teacher Wei was planning to give lessons about using spiritual roots next week anyway. We can motivate the students with those roots to attend. Even students not in the cultivation theory could try to learn. Do you know how many students would prefer to avoid the 5 arts lessons forced by their parents? make the rich ones grow herbs and the others used them to make pills. Teachers can make heating arrays around the farming ground as it is too cold right now”

Silence

“I will talk to my team,” said uncle Huai. It seems this would not be done.

Anyways, I tried. I was planning to apply some of those ideas by myself. From the trio, only grandma Li, who had water and earth abilities, could help but not by much. I wondered if Sui-er would be interested? I didn’t know his roots though.

Could I talk to other students? Or maybe have Sui-er the socialist help me talk to them? Maybe I could use the empty field in my space to grow some of the herbs. I would need seeds but I was not sure when I would have the time to go there for long. With everyone around me, I could not disappear for hours. That first time was because they let me brood and it was nighttime. I needed my beauty sleep at my age and my days were about to get too busy to not rest at night.

Uncle Huai and aunt Yan soon left together. I asked for snacks then checked the trio’s improvement. I had the time to ask about Li Bo's first days at school. He told me he was popular as they knew he worked for me and no one dared to bully him. This was another reason to be happy about whitewashing my reputation.

After bidding good night to everyone, I took two hours to meditate and work on the meridian path then went to sleep.

I had a dream of the past. It was my sister’s first day at the police academy. She had to stay at the dorm for a year and I was healthy enough to walk at that time so all the family went with her. We would not see her for at least 3 months before she would be allowed to come on weekends. It was the end of summer but that day was a hot one. However, I was wearing pants instead of shorts to hide my prosthetics as I preferred not being taken as a disabled person. My mother was fussing about the heat and the mandatory 3 months boot camp while my brother and I were laughing behind our mother and teasing my sister.

My sister was the strongest of us all mentally and physically. She was the captain of the track field at high school, had a black belt in judo and made two citizen arrests, a stalker and a thief, when she was only 16 years old. We were not scared for her at all. But when it was time to leave her, my brother and I could not stop crying with mom. I went to sleep with tears in my eyes that night. I cried every night for a week.

When I woke up the next day, close to lunch time, my eyes were dry. That was not a nightmare but a bittersweet memory. I knew why I dreamt of the first family’s long separation. I have not seen them for 2 weeks already and it would have been my sister's birthday today. I wondered what they were doing now? Was there a way to let them know that I was living a good healthy life and not to worry about me?

I quickly got out of that blues when grandma Li bought my brunch; dumplings, fish soup and steamed eggs. I devoured everything and asked for seconds.

Li Yao was absent. It seemed that aunt Yan took my idea to heart and used it in the residence. All available servants were put into teams to make small fields in unused areas. One of them being my courtyard’s garden. Servants with wood, water or earth roots were asked to use their abilities to grow, water or fertilize plants whenever available. The others could do the manual part of tilting the soil and harvesting. Each team had one of each ability. Li Yao was assigned to my courtyard’s plot as a supervisor to make sure the plants were growing well. Some patrol officers who knew how to make low level arrays were dispatched to make a level 1 heating array.

The servant’s residence schedule was to wake up, eat, go to their respective field to use their abilities, go to work, have lunch then go to the field again. Go to work, go to the field before dinner, eat then sleep. Repeat.

The amazing thing was that everyone was happy to do that. They all had training sessions to use their abilities while I was sleeping. It took all of them less than 3 hours to master it. My aunt also told me later on that she was looking for an alchemist and array master willing to teach the servants and some willing officers but no luck so far.
