Fullname82 Technically, I released on time yesterday but it was late so here is another chapter as an apology.

I re-edited the last 2 chapters too

I wanted to fix that so I asked brother Wen to find me a map of the area. I wanted to find an area where the village could be relocated. After a while, Official Hei came alone with the map “Xiao Shin, can we have that tea you offered earlier?”

Mmm, he had something to say to me. I made ginger tea and gave him a cup. I thanked him for the map and started chatting about the villagers “They are so anxious. I feel bad that we have to wait before telling them about the mine” I started

“But it is necessary. You have no idea how this could be dangerous between the discovery and the security implementation. You made a good decision for you and the village's sake by notifying the city lord right away”

“What would have happened if a small or medium power family would have discovered it first?” I asked curiously. No need to know for powerful families, for them a mine income was just some extra money with no additional power as they were already at the top. However, for low to medium families, this could mean increasing multiple times their power.

Uncle Hei thought about it then said “The stupid ones would kill anyone nearby. The smart ones would notify the city and vote to give compensation to the villagers.”

“And the evil ones?” The Liu family was evil. I recalled they took uncle Huai’s position 6 months after the mine was discovered

“They would do the same as the smart one but they would find the villagers later on and kill them one by one to get that compensation back and to avoid them using the city law”

“Ah, the law that stipulate that anyone forced to move from their place of birth due to any type of exploitation can, upon request, come back to their place of birth 5 years later or get parts of the income of said exploitation. 2% of said exploitation income is to be set aside for all requesters” I recalled. “The 5 years wait was for exploitation, being a mine, a factory or even a farm takes time to start. That would give the business time to be afloat before adding a 2% loss. The place of birth was to make sure that people with prior knowledge don’t buy land there only to get the compensation” So maybe those villagers were quietly killed after their move

“You do know the rules. Yes, this is why we prefer not to move the villagers, even if it means a higher investment cost shared by all joint owners”

“I know that the investment cost would be high, this is why I am only donating half of the auction sale. The other half would have to cover my and the city part of the initial investment” The city could not afford to bring up more money right now

“I don’t think the city lord would let you pay their part” said uncle Hei with a smile

“I am not paying. Just lending money to the city, with conditions, but at no interest” I smiled back

“What conditions?” uncle Hei was curious

“I think it is better if I negotiate directly with the city lord”

“I am mandated to do the negotiation” Said uncle Hei - no, right now it was Official Hei - He showed me the city lord’s token

“Fine. First, I want the city lord to acknowledge, officially, that I have the power to make decisions without a guardian as per the city rules for mine joint ownership.

Second, I do not want the city lord or anyone else to force me to have a guardian until my majority.

Third, the city lord and his wife should allow me to buy a residence and live independently.

Fourth and last, I need the city lord to provide me with adequate protection outside my future residence but not inside. He knows why I need protection but I refuse to have too many people inside my house.

As long as the city lord accepts all these conditions, I would lend the city enough money to cover the cost of investment for 2 parts ownership at no interest and no defined payment due date. If half benefit from the selling of the 6 part ownership is not enough, I would cover the rest with my own money”

“I would let the city lord know and come back to you” said official Hei before leaving

I could let go of some conditions but I have been away for too long and was a bit angry so I decided to be selfish and made some difficult ones.

Now that I made them, I was sticking to them. I needed my independence, having bodyguards constantly made me feel tense all the time. It has been almost 4 weeks and I could not relax completely in my room until I learned to make isolation arrays.

Also, being away made me recall a lot of bad things; I could not trust too many people. I could not trust security guards who did not prevent my uncle and aunt’s poisoning. I could not even trust uncle Huai and aunt Yan completely because their responsibilities toward the city meant that they might have to make tough decisions against me one day. I would understand them but it would hurt me.

They were too strong for me to be able to do what I needed to do in secret. I had to go to villages in the middle of nowhere to do my inventory!

The only way to relax completely to finish my technique and cultivate was to get my independence first.

The Li trio were different, they were my responsibility and the first ones who trusted me. Li Bo was the only one I killed with my own hands in three lives. I had no choice, he even asked for it but I would be damned if I had to do it again.

I didn’t know what fate had in store for me in this life, but I planned to make sure I and the Li trio were strong enough to protect our own happiness.
