However with the clue that the assassin’s stealth was done through shadows Nicholas finally had a reasonable guess as to how he was injured earlier, the bright light that was created by the mage Jessica was not to ensure Jason escaped instead it was a sort of boost for the latent assassin, shadows and light are closely related and shadows travel almost at the same speed of light the creation of a bright light source at that moment allowed the assassin to speed up his movement and attack, a dagger moving at such speed and skill would naturally easily pierce through Nicholas defence.
