Chapter 36 Part 2: Clairvoyant

It felt disgusting as the mucus clung to my face, but I pushed through it. I’ve felt it before, but if I can just overcome the little resistance inside me, I can immediately open my eyes.

Both the queen and I are earthbound creatures, so our abilities are bound to be somewhat reduced here. But there’s something she doesn’t have that I do.

Bang!

It’s a ranged weapon.

However, if I get too close, I won’t be able to deliver a solid blow because I’ll be caught by its speed. If it catches me in here, I’d definitely end up dead. It tries to climb up, but I keep it at bay with my gun.

Then, as if I had disturbed it, she quickly turned towards me.

‘Okay, let’s do this.’

Bang, bang, bang!

I fired another threatening shot, but It still managed to dodge it. Both on the ground and here, its speed is several times higher than mine. My role is simply to buy time anyway. If I can stall it long enough, then I’ll be able to…

As if seeing right through my complacency, something began to mutate where its wings broke. The next thing I knew, its wings had already turned into whips and pointed towards me, clearly intent on grabbing me and dragging me away.

There was no way I would be able to cut it off with my gun. So while I was thinking, a slender whip-like thing wrapped around my ankle and pulled me down. I immediately gasped for air.

As I struggled and was dragged away, I tried to shoot it with my gun. But it was useless. The mucus didn’t give me enough firepower. Just as it was about to reveal its serrated mandibles and take a big bite out of me.

Crack.

‘It’s loaded up!’

Noir twitched a little, as if to say, ‘Shoot if you must.’ But the bellows are not directed at the queen.

-Kiruruk……?

It’s aimed at my head.

BANG!

A translucent sphere immediately wrapped around me, and a lightning bolt struck.

Zap!

A flash of light hits the murky surface of the water, and the monster immediately shudders as if in convulsions. The grip on my ankle gradually loosened. I couldn’t let it end like this.

I grabbed its head with one hand to steady it. Then I pressed the muzzle of my gun against its snout.

It flailed its limbs as if it were trying to struggle, but there was no way it had the strength to do so. I had failed earlier, but this time I was sure. I sank the muzzle deep into its mouth. I squeezed the trigger while looking at it straight in the eye.

BANG!

Its head instantly shattered, and it was all over.

「Notice: The boss monster, «Mutant Queen Ant», is dead!」

「Notice: The gate has been cleared.」

「Notice: Gate has already been cleared, reward will be reduced.」

「Calculating contributions…」

「Your contribution is 8,502.」

「Congratulations, you’ve reached the top of the contribution rankings!」

「Items are distributed based on contributions.」

‘Uh-oh, the gate cleared before I could even find the scroll. Is this a test failure?’

I didn’t think that, It would turn into a failure. This is already a cleared gate, but if I kill the boss monster, it will still automatically spit out all the people inside!

Please. I could only hope that the other teammates had found the scroll.

“This is amazing.”

A man who appeared to be a Hunter test official said, while pushing up his glasses.

“They were split into two teams, but one found the scroll and the other cleared the dungeon.” He glanced to the side.

Kim Ju-il and Min Da-Lae were clutching the scrolls in their hands, their eyes were wide, but they must have survived because they were a combination of a tank and a dealer.

They found the scroll but…

Lee Eun-Woo was smiling, but I could tell he was pretty nervous, too.

‘Our stake in that scroll is currently less than 10%.’

‘Will we pass the test then?’

I’m sure Lee Eun-Woo felt my doubts as well. Our accomplishments are far greater than theirs. We’ve taken down a boss monster after all and it was even a mutant. No wonder it was said that he almost died before the regression. At that level, it would have been too much for him to handle alone.

But apart from that, the criteria for the test was ‘Find the Scroll’.

“First, Kim Ju-il and Min Da-Lae. You two did a great job finding the scroll that should have taken four people to find. I also appreciate the fact that Kim Ju-il abandoned his twin swords in the middle of the test and changed his fighting style into a single sword.”

Indeed. It sounds like they’ve been through quite a lot together as well. Min Da-Lae’s shield was a mess, it almost looked like scrap metal.

“I’ll let you know the exact results in a week, but I think you should be optimistic.”

Their faces immediately brightened in unison. With an answer like that, it was safe to say that they’ve already passed. Kim Ju-il looked like he was about to cry.

“And… Mr. Lee Eun-Woo and Ms. Han Seo-ha, would you please follow me?”

Lee Eun-Woo and I exchanged glances for a moment.

‘What did he mean by that?’

He won’t tell us that we’ll fail because of our low stake in the scrolls, right? But for now, we had no choice but to follow.

We went deeper into the center. After passing through the waiting area for the test takers, and where the groups first gathered, we immediately entered into a monitoring station where the dungeon was being monitored in real time.

There were countless monitors.

The current situation of every dungeon was being filmed in it. I could see the dungeon we had entered earlier, as well as places I recognized from before the regression.

I immediately realized who we had come to meet.

“Nice to meet you, young lads.”

The room was unlit, but the lights from the monitors illuminated the room. There was a chair in the center of the room, and it swiveled around, revealing a figure.

A white beard and small, round sunglasses. He wore a hat on his head and a blue one-piece suit, like a mechanic’s. It was an old man with graying hair. He was the owner of all these monitors.

“My name is Choi Seok-Chul. I’m the old man in the back room.”

He gulped down the soda on his desk.

Choi Seok-Chul. It was Choi Seok-chul, of ‘Clairvoyant’.
