Chapter 38 Part 2: Home

“I hope you’ll evaluate our exams positively. My guild leader cares about me a lot. He doesn’t like to see things go so badly.”

Lee Eun-Woo added with a subtle threat.

“Your guild leader? Who? Jeon Seo-Ho, that guy?”

Unfortunately for a first-generation hunter like Choi Seok-Chul, the current guild leaders were simply a generation younger.

“I haven’t seen his face in a long time. That’s good. You should go and tell him. He hasn’t come over for a cup of rice wine for a long time, that ungrateful bastard.”

A bastard huh? How many other people besides Choi Seok-Chul could say this to the guild leader of the Blue Serpent?

“Go away, I have to leave now!”

When I finally came back from my senses, we were already halfway out of the door. It didn’t feel real to me at all. The test was finally over, we had killed the mutant queen ant, met with Choi Seok-Chul and had our memories read. I can’t believe that all of this had happened in just less than a week?

“…I’m heading this way.”

I blurted out to Lee Eun-Woo. I sounded like a clumsy high school student. It was an awkward conclusion, after sharing all those hardship together.

“…I’m on the other way.”

He replied briefly.

“Okay. Have a safe trip. I’ll see you when you pass.”

Choi Seok-Chul seemed to think highly of our performance, and rightfully so, judging by his reaction. After all, hunters are there to clear gates, so it’s not unreasonable to give more points to us, after clearing that dungeon, than for finding the other scroll.

“Han Seo-Ha.”

Lee Eun-Woo called out to me as I was about to leave.

“…Did you see a terrible memory too?”

“Um… Yes I did.”

The last one was definitely a terrible memory.

“Well, was it a ‘Heavy’ memory for you, like he said?”

He looked a little desperate. What memory did he see? In a way, he was right. Right after Hye-won’s death, I had gone gate-crazy and did everything to escape from reality. It could be called a turning point in my life, considering the effect it had on ‘Me’.

“It was… For me.”

“Yeah… I mean that’s right.”

“What’s wrong?”

“No. Nothing. Next time, I’ll meet you at the training center.”

Lee Eun-Woo walked away with those meaningful words. He smiled lightly as he passed by me. I got chills and goosebumps all over my body. The curls of his silver hair bobbing through his eyes were eerily similar to the old Lee Eun-Woo from before the regression.

And that smile… Is the look you get when you’re trying to hide something.

What was he thinking? What kind of memories did he see that he had to double-check it with me?

‘I’ve Known him for over a decade, but I still don’t know what he was thinking.’

I’ve been around him for a long time, so I know a little more about him than others, but who can really see through his heart? Lee Eun-Woo is a mysterious person in many ways. Of course, no one would dare to investigate a man from the Blue Serpent, but there was a certain mysticism about him.

I didn’t know much about his background except that he had risen from the bottom of the pit. It’s a little creepy, but there’s nothing I can do about it.

After a few moments of watching his leaving back, I moved on to where I needed to be. Now that I finally have a place to go back to. It’s no longer a cold place where I sleep and live alone.

It’s called… Home.

“I’m home!”

I shouted, while opening the door. The warmth of the house rushed in and embraced me. It was a warmth that permeates everywhere. It smells of living people. It also had a pleasant smell of fabric softener.

“Hey. You’re finally back. You’re here sooner than I thought. I thought it would take you a week.”

They were sitting huddled in the living room, while folding the laundry side by side. Hye-won stood up from among the neatly folded towels and greeted me.

“Yes I’m back,” I said, “I just finished the test a little early.”

“Did you eat dinner? We didn’t know you were coming and ate first, but what do we do? I think the only thing left is fried rice, is that okay?”

“Oh, it’s okay, I don’t really have much of an appetite.”

I had an upset stomach since I had my memory read earlier, and I even saw all those terrible memories.

“Even if you don’t have an appetite, you still need to eat rice. I’ll make you one.”

Pyo Yeon-Won replied with a light smile. He tends to obsess over my food even before the regression.

“Okay, Yeon-won, do me a favor, I’ll finish the laundry. Seoha-Ya, you change your clothes and wash your hands!”

Pyo Yeon-won was already in the refrigerator taking out the ingredients. I hurriedly went up to the second floor to wash up, and when I came down, I heard the sound of sizzling and boiling oil in a frying pan. The aroma of the food being fried on it was a bit sweet. It’s been a long time since I’ve had real food ever since I entered the dungeon. My mouth immediately watered.

“I thought you had no appetite.”

Pyo Yeon-Won said playfully as I sat down at the table. That’s right. I thought I had no appetite, too.

“I don’t think you ate anything tasty inside the dungeon.”

“I heard that monster meat is a bit tough, fishy, and just plain bad, but I don’t know much.”

“I’m so happy to finally have some home-cooked food after leaving the Yeonhwado gate, especially since Yeon-Won’s fried rice is the best.”

Hye-won added, not sure if she knew what I was thinking. Pyo Yeon-Won didn’t seem to know much about the Gate yet. I think he knew enough for an average person. But he doesn’t need to know more.

“Enjoy your meal, Seoha-ya.”

“There’s water here.”

At least… I’m finally home.
