Lu Lijun stayed still while holding Jiang Yuyan in his embrace and letting her sleep. He continued to caress her head to make her feel better.
In a while, there was a knock on the door and Xiao Min and An Tian entered the room. Lu Lijun looked at them and signalled them to be quiet. The two left the room, understanding that Jiang Yuyan was sleeping.
Once Lu Lijun felt steady breathing from her and made sure she was in a deep sleep, he slowly removed her hand that was surrounding her waist and moved away from her to get up. He went out of the room to meet An Tian who was there to check on her.
”How is she?” An Tian asked.
”Looks like as you say, she is scared of the past incident. When she didn’t see me around she was anxious and tried to get out of bed. Maybe she was thinking that I am brother Qiang and…didn’t want me to go away,” Lu Lijun replied.
”It’s good that she was calm after seeing you. Let her take proper rest and take medicines. She will be fine and come back to her senses,” An Tian assured.
”Hope so. But what if later she will know I am not him?” Lu Lijun asked.
”We are not sure if she thinks of you as your brother,” An Tian said.
”What do you mean?” Lu Lijun asked.
”She was equally scared for you when you were in the accident, wasn’t she?”
”She was but there is no way she would…I mean…I am sure she thinks I am brother Qiang,” Lu Lijun said, not willing to believe she would ever want him closer to her.
An Tian didn’t want to insist on any guesses and said, “Even if she will later realize it’s you, it should be fine. She knows her condition well and she will accept it.”
Lu Lijun could only agree to it. An Tian checked her condition while she was sleeping and said, “When she is awake, let me know. I’ll be here. Till then I have some other work in this hospital.”
After an hour Jiang Yuyan woke up and her eyes again searched for a certain someone. She saw Lu Lijun sitting on the couch and was going through some work documents. She didn’t move her sight even a bit.
Lu Lijun sensed a gaze on him and looked at her. He put the work aside and stood up to go to her, “Morning, Yuyan.”
She only nodded a little to his greeting and continued looking at him. “I will call for a nurse so you can freshen up. You need to eat something.”
She didn’t react and he called for a nurse. Two nurses entered the room and greeted Jiang Yuyan happily, “Good to see you awake Ms Lu.”
They arranged the required things for her as one nurse helped her sit in the bed while Lu Lijun said, “I will wait outside.”
”Don’t..Don’t go,” Jiang Yuyan said.
Lu Lijun didn’t know what to say. As An Tian said he needed to listen to everything she said. He didn’t mind waiting there but he was sure she thought of him as Lu Qiang and once she would know it was him, she would not like all this.
”I am just outside. Call me if you need anything,” he said.
Getting rejection from him, her eyes turned watery and she said nothing.
”Okay, I will stay here. Just let the nurses do their job,” he said immediately.
Only then did she look relaxed. Lu Lijun went to the couch and sat there as he resumed his work, “I am here.”
Nurses could finally finish their task as they helped her wash up and wear new sets of clothes.
”Mr Lu It’s done,” the nurse said and only then did Lu Lijun look up at Jiang Yuyan.
”Thank you,” he said and the nurses left.
Just then the breakfast arrived. Lu Lijun brought it to Jiang Yuyan, “Here is breakfast.”
She didn’t look willing to eat and all she did was to keep her eye on him all the time and follow his every movement. As long as he was not leaving the room, she was fine.
The breakfast was arranged on the beatable but Jiang Yuyan didn’t move her hand to eat it. As An Tian said, she was sure like a kid.
Lu Lijun sat at the edge of the bed with the intention of feeding her. He would have done it even if she had said no but after they parted ways and he had promised to not bother her, he had to think about everything twice before and going closer to her was one of them.
Before he would unwrap the breakfast, he stood up and stood behind her. Her hair needed to be tied up before she could start eating as they were falling on both sides of her face.
”You need to fix your hair,” he said to inform her.
Jiang Yuyan was silent, which meant she agreed to him. Lu Lijun gently gathered her soft golden brown hair in his hands and did his best to tie them in the pony behind her neck. He fixed the short hair strands behind her ears and said, “It’s my first time doing it. I am sure it’s fine.”
Lu Lijun sat at the edge of the bed and stirred the soup to cool it down while blowing on it. He held the spoon in front of her and like an obedient girl she ate it.
To his surprise, Jiang Yuyan picked up the force and Lu Lijun thought she wished to eat the other dish. With her slow actions, she picked up the piece of meat and held it in front of Lu Lijun and her gaze asked him to eat it.
Lu Lijun opened his mouth and ate it. He felt his heart tighten a little as it was the first time she did it on her own or before he had to make an excuse to force her to do it.
’She sure loves elder brother a lot,’ he thought and said, “It’s for you. You need to finish it all. You haven’t eaten since yesterday.”
Lu Lijun continued feeding her and she finally finished most of it.
