… what is this? A custom card? Where did it come from? Why? Laura? Do you feel like explaining this?

(I believe there is no need for that. Do as the card says and install it into yourself.) Laura said.

(... are you sure it is safe?) I wondered.

(It should be.) She said back.

(I don’t like the word ‘should’.) I said back.

(You have done more dangerous things.) Laura said. (If everything goes wrong, you can always destroy it with Mystical Space Typhoon.)

(I still think this might be a bad idea.)

(But you love bad ideas. Why else would you insist on flying dragons too close to others.)

(... because it is fun…) I admitted. (And exposure therapy. If people get used to it, I can do it all the time.)

(Not the greatest plan you have ever had, Master. And quit stalling for time and install the card already.) Laura pressured me.

(Yeah, I won’t do it. Not without someone else present. I still don’t trust this custom card.) I said and decided to leave the install for after dinner. I was going to use Level Ups on Alice anyway, so I can have her with MST watching over me as I install this custom piece.

During dinner, Alice once again had an opportunity to do some story telling. Telling everyone how we took down the orcs and their settlement. And adding in a part of me quickly growing a dragon to over three times its original size. Alice might have exaggerated a bit by telling everyone it was over five times the original size, but I said it was more like three times. Not that adding the correct information helped at all.

“How many dragons do you have contracts with?” The earl asked, seemingly more out of interest than anything else.

“Are we speaking about the large dragons or all of them? I only have five large dragons.” I answered. The five I counted are Blue-Eyes, Red-Eyes, Tri-Horned Dragon, Horus LV8 and Meteor Dragon. Yeah, I have three copies of Blue-Eyes and two copies of Red-Eyes, but I’ll let them be.1In case you are wondering, Brian has a total of 36 unique dragon-type monsters in his collection at the moment.

“Five? Large dragons? Are you planning on taking over the country?” The earl asked, seeming a bit panicked.

“Why would I? Do you know how much paperwork that would mean?” I asked.

“That’s your reason? You didn’t say anything about not being able to do it.” The earl said.

“Well, I’m not sure if I could. But at the same time, if I used my dragons for that, there might be no kingdom left to rule. Or at the very least, it would need some major repairs. Taking over a kingdom with force is not the way to go. All you will get is a destroyed kingdom.” I reasoned.

“Then how would you take over a kingdom?” The earl asked.

“I wouldn’t. Too much work.” I said. “But honestly, perhaps mind control the King. Then marry a princess and kill off every other prince and princess so that the princess becomes the Queen. And then I would by technicality be the King.”

“Hmm. I see.” The earl muttered.

You aren’t planning on a takeover, right? I didn’t just give you a battleplan? Well, if I did, I can always go against that plan with my Monster Reborns. Can’t keep them dead if I resurrect them.

Luckily someone at the table didn’t read the grimm mood and changed the topic.

“Mr. Brian, would you show me one of these dragons?” Jonathan asked.

“Sure. I can do that.” I answered. I don’t mind showing them off. “But I have promises to keep tomorrow, so you might have to wait a few days.”

“No. No. No. No dragons.” Angelina countered.

“Why not? I’m not going to have him fight them.” I said.

“I agree.” The earl said. “Seeing the overwhelming might of a dragon is quite awe-inspiring.”

“Have you seen one?” I asked.

“Yes. When I was young. One of my classmates was a summoner and they made a contract with a dragon.” The earl began a story that went on for the rest of the dinner. Apparently, I’m not the only one that wants to show off my dragons at every opportunity.

“Alice, could you come into my room for a few minutes?” I asked Alice as we were heading back to our rooms after dinner. I was a little hesitant to ask it as it sounds … questionable, but as I said we don’t need a maid to show us the way, it was just the two of us.

“I can, but why?” Alice asked.

“I’m going to install a card into myself and I’m a bit afraid of it. I just want you to watch over me as I do, in case something goes wrong.” I said. “After that, I’ll also use the Level Ups on us.”

“I see. Then let’s go.” Alice agreed.

“Here. I want you to hold onto this. And if I say use it, I want you to activate it targeting Different Dimension Factory. Do you understand?” I asked Alice as I handed her my toploader Mystical Space Typhoon.

“Yes. If you say something is wrong, I will use this card to destroy Different Dimension Factory.” Alice repeated.

“Good. I’ll start then.” I said as I held the Different Dimension Factory up to my chest. “Install.”

The wave of pleasure hit me again. But a lot stronger. I thought I was getting used to this, but I most definitely am not. This one is worse than any before this.

The pleasure was getting so overwhelming, it was painful. Extremely painful. I ended up biting my lip to keep myself from screaming.

“Brian? Are you alright? Should I use the card?” Alice asked, worried about me.

“I … “ I almost said yes, but Laura spoke to me.

(No. Don’t interrupt it. It’s working.) Laura said to me.

“... I’m … fine… I … can … go … on.” I said to Alice, between my breaths. If Laura says to go on, I will.

“Haa, haa, haa.” Finally, the pain ended. Why was this one so much worse? I swear. This is the last time I’ll use a custom card.

(I believe the more likely reason for it is that Master has installed multiple cards into himself in the last few days and your body hasn’t had the time to fully adjust to them.) Laura said.

Well, I guess in Yugioh you can only equip five cards at a time to a monster. Well, technically ten, if both players equip five cards to the same monster. But why were the first and fourth ones the worst? And the third was by far the easiest.

(It might be because the other three made a new skill, whereas United we Stand simply evolved your skill.) Laura reasoned.

Okay. So two things learned here. One, don’t install more than three cards in a quick succession. And quick doesn’t mean taking an hour break between installs. Quick means absolutely no more than one install a day. And I probably should have at least two to three days between each install.

(A week might be better.) Laura said.

(Probably.) I agreed.

And the second thing. Cards that make new skills have more intense effects. At least that is a good thing. I wonder how the magic attribute messing compares to a new skill? What is the worst?

As I was still recovering, I asked Alice which install felt worse for her and she gave an immediate answer.

“The first one. It was way worse.” Alice said.

Okay. Good to know. I guess in a week or so I can install something into Paulina and get her opinion on things as well.

“But did this one succeed? Or should I use this?” Alice asked.

“Give me a second. I’ll check.” I answered and pulled up my status.

… excuse me, what? A unique skill? Laura. What the hell was this idea? You can’t just go around making unique skills.

(Actually, you are the one who made it.) Laura said.

(It was your idea, so it is your fault. I just executed it.) I said back. (What does this skill even do?)

(No idea. It is a brand new skill, so there is no system information about it.) Laura said.

(... oh great. Well, I guess we can experiment. But let’s get Alice out of the room first, just in case.)

“Yeah. It succeeded alright. Thanks for watching over me.” I said to Alice. “Please give that card back to me and I’ll use the level ups.”

“Sure.” Alice responded and handed MST back to me. “What skill did you get? Could you tell me?”

“I … I’ll think about it, but I think I’ll keep it to myself for now.” I said. It’s not like I don’t trust Alice, but making a unique skill is … kind of crazy. The fact that installs sometimes make extra skills is already stupid, but unique skills are even more rare.

“I see. I hope you will tell me about it one day.” Alice said.

Yeah. Hopefully the skill is nothing too crazy. Anyway, let’s do the level ups.

I got out the four toploader copies of Level Up!

I used one on my overall level and the same for Alice.

But for the skills, I was actually thinking of something else.

“I want to level up Pack Opener. Level Up.” I said to activate my Level Up!

I was honestly not expecting for anything strange to happen, but instead of succeeding, a system screen with an error popped up.

ERROR!
Unique skills cannot be leveled up by outside interference.

… really? Now my cards are “outside interference”. Well, I guess that is fine, but I would have still liked to be able to do it.

“Brian? What was that?” Alice asked, looking at the card in my hand. The card hadn’t lost its color so I could still use it.

“Apparently this card can’t be used on unique skills.” I answered.

“Oh. Well, that is only your Pack Opener, right? And that skill made the card, so I guess it makes sense that it cannot level up the skill that made it.” Alice said.

“Yeah. That’s true.” Well, the second part anyway. “But then, I wonder if it works on Card Summoner either. Let’s test that. I want to increase the level of Alice’s Card Summoner, Level Up!” I said, before waiting for Alice’s opinion.

But again, an error screen popped up.

ERROR!
Card Summoner (extra) is unaffected by
cards made with Pack Opener (unique).

… so it didn’t work. Well, I guess it is fine, again, but it still would be nice.

“Error? Unaffected?” Alice seemed to be reading the same error message I was.

“Yeah. Apparently I can’t use it on that either.” I said. “I’ll use it on some other skill. What do you want?”

“Dark Magic, please.” Alice responded. I somewhat expected her to pick her Magician’s Power extra skill, but she picked that one instead.

I did as instructed and the card activated just fine.

Then I used one on myself, leveling up Mana Control again. I want that skill to at least level five before I level up anything else. It does to an extent bottle-neck my other skills, so I want it at a decent level before I level up Telekinesis or Summoner’s Unity. And until I figure out my equipment, I won’t level up Shining Taunt.

I said good night to Alice and led her back to her room. Well, the other way around. First her room then the good night.

Anyway, I summoned Aqua Spirit and had her make me a quick bath. I don’t know if she is sad that all I use her for is bath water, but she seems happy any time I summon her, so I think it is fine.

But anyway. Let’s test out the new skill.

(Laura, did you find something out?) I asked. I had her testing the skill while I took the bath. You know, just in case.

(You should take a relaxed position. I recommend you just lay down on the bed. Then either think or say ‘Different Dimension Factory’.) Laura informed me.

(Simple enough.)

I did as instructed and went to bed. … That sounds like I’ll just sleep. I laid on the bed and quietly said: “Different Dimension Factory.”

As I did, the world around me went white.

As my vision returned, I saw a hallway that was made of white materials. It wasn’t that long, only about 100 meters. With a width of about 30 meters and height of about 20 meters. On both sides of the hallway were many, many doors and at the end of it, a large garage door. Or something like that.

But that is not the important part. The important part is the person that stood there. She was a bit taller than I am, at about 185 cm tall. Her brown hair extended just a little past her shoulders. Her green eyes shimmered, almost like they were holding the entire night sky in them. Her figure was great, just like it had always been. I still wonder what I did to ever deserve her.

I took a few steps so I was right in front of her and placed my hand on her cheek. It felt warm. So she is not just an illusion or a trick my mind is playing.

I was thinking of saying something, but I didn’t know what to say. Instead, I just hugged her.

“Master?” I heard Laura ask.

“No yet. I need a bit more.” I said as I held her tight.

“So, what is this place?” I asked Laura. No, this isn’t my Laura. Well, she is, but not really.

“It is a mental plane. Or perhaps a sub-space would be more accurate. It is similar to other worlds that are connected with the one Master currently resides in, like the spirit world and the demon world.” Laura explained.

“And how can you take that form?”

“As this is your mental plane, normal rules don’t exactly apply here.” Laura answered. “I’m capable of realizing a body for myself here.”

“I see. And what about the outside world?” I asked. “Does time move there?”

“Yes it does. However, if we can raise the level of the skill, we might be able to cause a time dilation between the worlds.” Laura said. “Also, Master’s body is still laying on the bed. You cannot escape into this skill in case of danger.”

“I see. So it is like a VRMMO. I come here and exist as an avatar, but my real body is still somewhere else.”

“If you want to see it that way.” Laura said.

“So, what are we going to do with this place?” I asked.

“We can do anything you want to. But if we go back to your monsters, I believe we can link this skill with your Pack Opener and summon the monsters in this world.” Laura said.

“Well, this building is not large enough to hold them.” I commented.

“Don’t worry. Just open one of the doors and look in.” Laura said.

I did as she said and walked up to the first door on the right. I opened it and all I could see was a white void.

“... not the most pleasing place to live.” I commented.

“It might be like this at the moment, but we can change that.” Laura said.

“... we can?”

“Of course. Did you already forget all of your cards?” Laura said. “Forest, Wasteland, Mountain, Sogen3Grassland, Umi4Ocean, Yami5Darkness. All of the other Field Spells Master has. We can install them into the rooms to make them better.”

“Oh. Yeah. That’s nice. Then just summon monsters in the habitat that they like.”

“Yes. I believe that will make them happy.” Laura said.

“But won’t it be bad if they are summoned here and then I need to summon them in the real world?” I asked.

“As I said, this is Master’s mental plane. In here, normal rules don’t exactly apply. Of course I may be wrong, but I believe that the monsters here wouldn’t count as being summoned in the same way as they do outside.” Laura answered.

“Ah. I see. Then we will test that at some point.” I said.

“Yawn.”

“Master. You are tired. You should link Pack Opener and Dungeon Founder with Different Dimension Factory and go to sleep. I’ll make this place better during the night.” Laura said.

“Sure…” I sleepily said. “But why Dungeon Founder?”

“I’d like to use it to manage this area better. It has features that I can use to make cameras in this plane.” Laura reasoned. “And I can also make us a bedroom.”

… bedroom? … yes. For all the right reasons, we need that. Don’t we, Laura?

I was honestly expecting her to answer, but it appears she can’t hear my thoughts while we are in here. Or she is tricking me into thinking that. I don’t know.

“Yawn.” Another yawn from me. I really need to get into bed. Wait. I already am in bed. “So, how do I link the skills?” I asked.

“I can do it for you, Master. Just give me the order.” Laura answered.

“... okay. Laura, please link Pack Opener and Dungeon Founder to Different Dimension Factory” I ordered her.

“Order received. Executing.” Laura said. “Master, you should leave this plane and go to sleep.”

“I will. Just one more thing. When we are here, please don’t call me ‘Master’. When here, call me Brian, or Dear, or Love.” I said to Laura before I closed my eyes and tried to leave that place.

I opened my eyes again and found myself on the bed. Well, I’m in my new PJs, laying in bed, tired. Nothing more to it than to fall asleep. I do wonder, if I fall asleep in  Different Dimension Factory, would I fall asleep here as well? If I do, I could sleep with Laura again.

Well, that is a question I can answer another day.
