A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 131

Peng Wanli (2)

President Pei looked at a man who was as tall as a metal tower. “Lu Bin, introduce Xi-ge and our sister-in-law to the rest.”

Bai Qi looked up at the person and recognized him from the banquets at the Jiang’s.

Lu Bin swiftly stood to his feet and introduced the attendees to them. Soon enough, it was Peng Wanli’s turn. Peng Wanli purposely stood up and smiled at them.

“Your name rings a bell…Ah, I remember now. My dad also has a friend who goes by this name…” Bai Qi said.

Peng Wanli froze. ‘No way it is true, he really is Bai Shan’s son?’

People like him, who were always busy traveling to and from the construction site, had no time to keep up with the news of the entertainment industry. If they’re free, they would rather use that time available to compare the chest sizes of female celebrities…

Lu Bin reacted very quickly as he glanced between them and asked, “Is Bai Shan your father?”

Bai Qi nodded. “En.” He looked at Lu Bin and said, “I’ve never seen you around, do you know my dad too?”

“Yes.”

Bai Qi never would’ve expected to have already met Peng Wanli before. He sat up straight and pinched the back of Xi Chengyun’s hand. He felt a sense of comfort from him while being surrounded by a bunch of old men.

Bai Qi laughingly said, “Oh, this is such a coincidence. Just this morning, Xi-ge had accompanied me to the hospital to visit the patients from years ago and we realized that the hospital had moved location. I heard from my dad that it was Uncle Peng who has been taking care of the patients all this while…”

“Woah, who knew that President Peng had such a good connection in the industry,” the people around them exclaimed.

All of them looked at him with jealousy.

However, Peng Wanli was not happy at all.

He felt like he had the worst of luck.

It was like the universe was playing games with him.

“The hospital… has shifted somewhere else. It’s now called Cherish Hospital,” Peng Wanli mumbled.

“Then, where has the patients gone?”

“They used to stay there… and has now checked out,” Peng Wanli said as he lowered his head.

“Why didn’t you inform my dad then?”

“… I was busy, so I forgot.”

“Is that so?”

The rest could tell that something was off with the odd atmosphere at the table.

Just then, the server returned with orange juice and a new plate of food.

President Pei wanted to ask what Bai Qi wanted to eat, but he didn’t dare interrupt.

“Table knives please,” Xi Chengyun said calmly.

The server immediately brought them to him.

Peng Wanli felt a cold sweat run down his neck when he saw the knife in Xi Chengyun’s hand. He forced a smile and said, “Your dad has been very busy recently and he hasn’t had the time to follow up with me…”

Bai Qi suddenly recalled something his dad had told him a long, long time ago.

“Oh, and I’m sure you have the payment records with you, right? I heard from my dad that you’ve been helping him repay a portion of the debts to the family, so in return, he’s now working for you for free. Let me have a look. I’ll settle the outstanding amount today,” Bai Qi said.

Peng Wanli… didn’t have any records to show.

President Pei looked at Xi Chengyun and twirled the wineglass in his hand.

“What are you waiting for, President Peng? Call someone to get the records for you, our sister-in-law is waiting.”

Peng Wanli touched his phone.

President Pei smiled as he continued, “This is the first time I’ve had the chance to treat my sister-in-law to a meal. Please, bring him anything he wants. It’ll be on you guys if Xi-ge slaughters me later on.”

He was older than Xi Chengyun, and yet he addressed him as “Xi-ge”.

Peng Wanli was sweating profusely.

He took out his phone, but he had no idea who to call.

Because those transactions didn’t even exist.

“Bank statements would do too,” Bai Qi said.

Peng Wanli closed his eyes. “… Sigh.”

He would’ve never thought that the great opportunity he’d been waiting for would be a trap.

“President Peng, are you unable to calculate the amounts properly?” Xi Chengyun chuckled as he cut a slice of beef for Bai Qi. He turned to look at President Pei and said, “If my memory serves me right, I think President Pei has a specialized team to handle issues like this.”

President Pei immediately took out his phone and said, “Oh, it’s nothing spectacular. I’ll have them over to help President Peng. I guarantee everything would be calculated accurately.”

Peng Wanli finally realized that he had one foot in the grave.

If he really allowed someone to come to settle the calculations for him… President Pei, Xi Chengyun, and everyone else would turn against him. He would not be able to make it out alive today.

“He doesn’t owe me anything anymore. Everything has been repaid,” Peng Wanli said in a small voice.

“Is this something that you have the right to decide?” President Pei scuffed.

“And also the money that I should give to Bai Shan…I haven’t been able to give it to him yet. Bai Qi, Uncle Peng will pay a visit to your house tomorrow to give the money to your father, does that sound alright?”

Suddenly, no one dared to utter a word.

The atmosphere was ice cold.

President Pei turned to ask Lu Bin, “What was the name of the project he’s currently working on again?”

Peng Wanli’s mind went blank. “I get it now. Bai Qi, you think that I’ve cheated your father of his money, right? I didn’t even…”

He was in a mess as he hung his head even lower. “I was… I was very kind to him. Don’t you remember how I lent your father 5 million back then when your family went bankrupt? I even offered him a place at my company…”

Xi Chengyun’s eyelid twitched. “Are you so accustomed to lying that you are already starting to believe in your own lies? You had someone work for you for free. Is this something to be proud of?”

President Pei frowned and said, “Exactly, how dare you? I address Bai Qi as my sister-in-law, so don’t you have some self-awareness to know where you stand in the world? Are you trying to say that I am of lower status than you?”
