"I see..." She frowned as she recalled the faint rune outlines that had been visible before the blazing fire that was carried into the heavens. 'That's what he means by solidifying mana... It does not need to be done mentally, interesting.'
This example had given her a new insight, allowing her to understand far better what the aim was. "Would you say that this is only possible through directly controlling the mana to form the runes?"
"I'm not sure. It's so natural to me that I wouldn't really ever try it the other way around. Actually..." Eldrian paused as he considered if he should try and share this hypothesis with Solvi. It felt weird, Sofiera was an expert in magic - in normal static magic at least.
Solvi instead was a master of blacksmithing and runesmithing. Yet she lacked that certain insight and understanding that Sofiera had about magic in general. It took her just a bit more to get to the same conclusion as Eldrian, but she certainly would have unique insights of her own.
"I think it should be possible. To cast a spell you need to get your mana moving, correct?" Eldrian questioned to reconfirm what he understood. Solvi nodded.
"Then this should be the same, maybe the mental solidification isn't possible but tracing the rune and sending your mana to it as you trace it should be possible, right?"
Solvi thought on it for a hot minute. "It might be. When working on a piece I do need to keep my mana flowing as I work. If I consider this similar to that, then..." Reaching out, Solvi quickly traced the simplest rune for fire while trying to nudge her mana towards it.
Fire, naturally because it was the easiest to see whether it was a success or not.
She found tracing the rune and sending mana to it strangely easy, the surprise of just how easy it was, nearly threw her off. She was also shocked by how much mana filled the basic rune, far more than she had expected.
When she finished the rune, by her estimate she had sent more mana than Eldrian had first sent into the furnace when he started helping her with the cannons (50MP). Which was more than thrice what this rune would normally contain.
The results also seemed to indicate a similar amount as a bright flame burst forth. Luckily, her clothing was resistant to fire, as was her body. As such, she was unharmed even though she lost control of the fire.
Eldrian quickly stepped in, summoning a few buckets' worths of water to quench the fire. "Fascinating." He mumbled, naturally he wouldn't let such an opportunity go. Having used mana sense himself and having Two analyze it mentally.
They had found that the use of Mageia had been unneeded. That Solvi hadn't needed to hyper-focus on anything, she simply had to draw the runes and nudge her mana.
'This is going to be a game-changer for sure.' Two commented, the fact that it was so easy to do meant that it would change the world if it spread.
Eldrain's eyes flew wide as he recalled that this wasn't the first time he had seen this type of casting. 'Didn't Itireae do something similar when treating Pelaros?'
Two's eyes flew just as wide inside their mental space as he recalled that scene. 'Yeah! And she had mumbled too!'
'You think it is possible to add even more to this type of casting?' Eldrian enquired.
'For sure, the basis is the rune. It holds the mana and determines the element, maybe even the aspect. We already know that the form can be overlapped by us imaging a certain outcome. Which would be imposing mageia over it. Chanting, we know it isn't common, but Itireae did it.'
'Which must mean that it actually has certain uses.' Eldrian finished the sentence, this was news. As far as they knew chanting was only required to start the activation of a spell module. Most mages upon reading Tier 5 would be able to do so mentally, no longer needing to say the word aloud.
'But how would we use this?' Eldrian questioned next, if it was just envisioning the rune it would be easy. However, drawing a rune wasn't possible while in pitch combat.
'Always one to think of the use only when in a melee...' Two sighed, 'You really need to stop thinking like that. Just consider what you did in the siege using the cannonballs. If we can cast a spell of such impact reliably, without spirit magic and its costs and dangers. Why would we want to use it in melee?'
Eldrian turned red from embarrassment, 'You're right. But are we sure it is safer than spirit magic?'
'It certainly should be. It does not rely on emotions, though I am certain we can add them if we want to be risky.'
'Besides, we already know that runes are one of the most stable types of magics. Heck, all crafts are far more stable than casting. The only things more stable are, no, I don't even think abilities are as stable as crafts.'
Solvi finally managed to overcome the shock at the success, turning to Eldrian who was spacing out she sighed. Here she was trying to wrap her head around it and he was already analyzing it.
"What did you discover?" She asked, moving past her pride as someone who had stabilized her Tier 8 basis and now needed to solidify her growth.
In terms of Tier, she was now at the apex in most kingdoms. Yet, besides Eldrian she felt like she was just a normal person. His way of experimenting and actually succeeding, be it through luck or talent. It was simply beyond the normal levels one could even expect of a genius.
The most shocking part was she didn't consider him a genius. Not in the conventional sense at least.
It didn't feel like he was making progress through knowledge, but rather through feel, through instinct. Like he was born for this.
