I tilted my head, trying to assess what I had to do next for the time being. “For what?”

My eyes looked around at the room full of trees and at my piece of armor. Finally at the somewhat collapsed doorway and at my spear and bow. I stowed away the pauldron into the ring, barely managing to fit it in. I felt relatively heavy, but the load was something I quickly got used to, in the meantime, Glim spoke.

[Well, I just feel a tad bit guilty you know, just a tad, well, a lot. A tad? Just a bit…] Glim bobbed. [See, you’ve completed all the quests magnificently. And yet at the start I only gave you three in spite of your high priority, I can’t help but hate myself just a bit you know?]

I rolled my eyes a bit, the fact that Glim thought of itself as anything past remotely likable was a bit of a pain. The trees were dead and I couldn’t move them for my mana was no longer within them, in the end I had to chop and poke away with my mana-laced spear.

[Anyway, what I am saying is I didn’t think you could do it…] It sighed. [I just worry, if you were to miss more than one of the quests there would be consequences that you cannot afford.]

“Such as?”

Glim trembled. [Well, the whispers of the wind say something like experience penalties, loss of attributes or er, loss of levels—] It coughed. [This is just the wind and not totally related to The System. I am just speaking theoretically. It’s not something you can theoretically afford to lose. And the more quests failed in this theoretical scenario the worse it gets.]

I sighed as I removed some branches. I had mixed feelings regarding Glim’s words, but its voice was relatively sincere. I was inclined to believe it. At the same time it had been helpful a lot of the time, but I didn’t fully trust it, I didn’t fully trust Glim after being silenced by Elasia.

“Tell me what did you want to say about Elasia back then?”

Glim bobbed in place, trembling as if hesitating. [I-I… I cannot disclose this information since it was her wish…]

“You mean…”

[What I said, The System contract prevents me from doing so.]

A frown formed on my face. “I command you to disclose it.”

Glim trembled, its voice switching. [Impossibility. Under the rule of the Implementation Number 21 — Champions — the Patron reserves the right to withhold any information from the Champion. Current Patron has withheld any information related to them and their subordinates. Any information inferred by SGA, entity. ‘Glim’, cannot be distributed as per protocol. Circumventing this will initiate Immediate Termination.]

I stared in silence.

Glim bobbed. [See? Also, Immediate Termination reflects onto you as well! So don’t be stupid!] It said nervously. [Trying to pry into the true secrets of The System without enough power will simply get you killed!]

Ha?

It trembled. [Heed my warning this time around Blair. Assisting you to be greater is my only interest. However, I am also forced to weigh risks and benefits. So I hope you understand that I have my own reasons to not say or say certain things!]

I closed my eyes and simply shook my head. Conflicted feelings welled within me.

In the end, I just sighed and shook my head. I didn’t want to trust Glim at all. At the same time, even if I ordered it, it would just say something like. I am your System Generated Assistant! Of course you can trust me? In the end, that didn’t sound too trustworthy. Yes, Glim had been honest so far, but… It just irked me.

I gathered all the mana of the spear within the edge and slammed. With one final swing after multiple stabs, the mana surged. It splintered. Thousands of tiny wood fragments flew and pelted my body as I was finally out of the place. I didn’t want to talk too much with Glim.

I stepped outside only to see the sun. The entire mountain ceiling was gone, and instead it had become a gaping hole, an abyss in which I stood at the bottom. Far off in the distance there were collapsed caves, and some were just floating in the air. Looking around, all I could see was floating holes or collapsed rubble, but the sun shone and snow fell. There wasn’t a single trace of worm or ant, and at that moment for a brief second, I forgot about the things that were going on. And then, a notification came, bringing me back.

[Quest completed: Explorer Of The Uncharted (Uncommon E)]

[Receive Unknown Reward?]

Unknown reward? The mysterious quest…

[Blair!] Glim called. [You might want to check this out.]

Glim floated off to the distance, my eyes followed after it as I saw the collapsed rubble on the ground move apart. One.

[Rime Worm. Lvl. 21]

Two.

[Rime Worm. Lvl. 24]

Three. A hulking figure emerged.

[Guardian Empress of Crystal. Lvl. 27]

She was badly damaged and struggling to stand. And then the rubble around her. One. Two. Three…

[Suvia Royal Guard Lvl. 21]

Four…

[Suvia Royal Guard. Lvl. 23]

Five…

[Suvia Royal Guard. Lvl. 22]

Two worms remained, and they both turned in unison towards the Queen and her guards. I grabbed my bow and prepared my arrows to end everything once in for all. This whole nest was going to come down to a close.
