Azrie Part: 2/2

◇ ◇ ◇

There was a tree within my vision. It was old and ancient, its tree bark was robust and coarse, slightly dried but its branches brimmed with red leaves, it was clear to me that the tree was in perfect condition. The sun shone and the sky was bright, but time passed and soon it became night. The leaves blew, rustled, and at that moment a faint green mist enveloped the tree, but somehow it was absorbed. The tree took it all, and after a second of silence its branches creaked as if they were breaking apart. The entire tree shook as its roots dug the ground and shifted. They moved and interwove within each other, its lowest branches shifted to its sides and the tree top became bigger. The wood of its trunk changed and dug itself, broke apart to form a small hole where a green light shone like a fire.

And finally. The tree, moved.

The earth rumbled as its wooden mass lifted and simultaneously creaked, threatening to snap within its weight. But it waddled, moved slowly as it rose more and more, its roots dug and combed through the ground, weaving within each other in a slow process. And eventually, it went from waddling to:

Walking.

It became a monster of green that walked in a certain direction. And it didn’t take long for the vision to change view overseeing a gigantic city—a sort of castle. It seemed to have ramparts that reached past any tree, and soldiers whose appearance I did not recognize. Almost as if they were made out of rock. But within the castle there was clearly a small village in its garden. It seemed to be bustling with life, and just when I was finally getting a sense of scale. I heard the earthquake, and my vision turned towards the forest. One that barely even reached half the height of the castle walls, but something strange happened. The forest was… Moving.

Some of the trees inched forward ever so slightly, and the people within the ramparts seemed to do so too. They began to gather and prepare buckets of black liquid. And as the trees inched forward the preparation was about finished. First were nothing more than a couple dozen, then it became a hundred— a thousand. They all gathered and tried to attack the walls as liquid was poured overhead. There was a torch; thrown onto the trees and as if it was a detonator. It all exploded into a mass of fire, the trees seemingly wailed as their branches produced shrill sounds as if they were popping.

Eventually it all came to normality. The wind blew and the small rock people finally took rest and went back to normal. A few seconds passed, but then another shrill sound came—it was akin to a shriek of rage. My vision panned out as I saw a tree. World Tree. Move. It had a gaping hole with a bright green fire as it walked towards the castle. Its branches were dark but its trunk was a pale white. Lush purple and golden leaves.

What was a World Tree?

The parent of all trees. Bringer of all plants. But also the forefather of elves, or so it was believed. The first elf was brought on from a seed that came from a World Tree. At least— my memory was still fuzzy. Everything still felt repressed to the back of my mind.

The vision changed, and it was as if time was accelerated. Shadows moved and the World Tree too became nothing more than a shadow as the castle turned to nothing in an instant. Then, it slowed ever so slightly as the castle was nothing but billowing smoke. Clearly destroyed by the World Tree, or what I believed to be one. Eventually time started to accelerate once more as plants reclaimed the debris and leftovers of society.

After a few seconds all there was left was. Forest.

The vision ended.

◇ ◇ ◇

I heard coughing next to me. It was Lumina, she scratched her head awkwardly. “Well, I don’t remember what a low level treant looks like, but it's quite neat isn’t it?”

I paused. “That was a treant? The World Tree?”

“That super lame World Tree? Yes.” She nodded. “Anyway by the time you hit D rank with level ups, you should be capable of creating a single treant.”

I frowned. “How?”

She grinned. “Of course that is for you to figure out. My now semi-forgotten disciple. I will be watching your suffering with great joy.”

I snorted, and heard a chuckle come soon after.

“I suppose that’s all there is to things. I seriously don’t recommend using Guidance Of The Stars till you’re almost sure how to create a treant. And also, try only consuming a minute amount of the liquid. Should only use a bit of time rather than all of it.”

I nodded. “Thank you.”

She smiled. “Now go.”

“Ho—” My vision became nothing but black and once more I stood within the clearing. And soon. Lumina’s voice echoed within my mind.

“You won’t be hearing from me for some time.”

I remembered everything vividly this time around. No painful recalling. I turned to the sky to still see the ongoing fires, it seemed that only a minute had passed. Everything was still normal and there was still plenty of time for trying to make a treant.

She had basically said that I wouldn’t be able to make them, but I wanted a plant that could move without my prompting. I smiled as I took out a few seeds from my ring. I certainly had the mana to experiment even if a bit.

To make a treant? I was at least going to try.

Though in the end I still felt melancholic. I had remembered things that I didn’t want to remember. In the end things were just like that. I was always alone, and nothing had changed by losing all my people. I felt disassociated from it. But even then.

I missed my parents. A small sigh escaped me.

[Hey, no need to be all gloomy! I am here now! Glim! Just for you, till the end of time if necessary! Seriously, the Skirmish is about to end!]

A small snort left me, but I couldn’t stop myself from ever so slightly smiling.

I appreciated Glim’s company. Even if it was questionable at times.

[Incubation Period: 0 days 9 hours 58 minutes.]

Almost 10 hours left to try to make something happen. I smiled, I felt excited for my future prospects, though I did not want an army of trees, but a single powerful tree. Surely I could achieve that. A brief glance at the seeds within my hand was all it took for me to feel excited.

I wanted a moving tree.
