Special Shoutout to:

Amelia: The Level Zero [Hero] by MelasD

Ten years ago, Amelia woke up alone and lost in a broken world where she had to fight for her survival.

Now, after reaching the pinnacle of power, defeating the Void itself, and escaping the abyss, she has finally found her way back into the real world. But instead of finding herself on Earth, she is in the land of Vacuos. A fantasy world with magic, monsters, Classes, and Levels. A world that is governed by a System like it were a video game.

And when rewarded with a Class befitting her accomplishments— to become a powerful [Hero] that will forever dedicate her life to protecting this world that is not her own— she only has one response.

“Absolutely not. I’m going to live a normal life now, thank you very much.”

After all, who needs a Class when you're already the strongest anyways?

Seriously check it out, MelasDelta has helped make this fiction possible, and he is also my best friend! Do give it a read!

Things became a bit weird afterwards, but the first order that I made was with the help of Elasia. To clear the forest. The trees were felled by the second by the Moonfangs and Bloodfangs, rounded to the side of the house. Finally, I was alone with Elasia and Sun, before doing anything however, I decided to check on my Feat. The one I had gotten for claiming the monolith.

[Feat Achieved — Bringer of Civilization — You are the first in the New World to claim a Monolith for civilization. You can sense Monoliths within 1km of you. While in your territory, gain 10% attribute points.

“At last, a New Planet!” — Ulak, The King.]

It was alright. I still didn’t have much of a desire to do things relating to the city. I shook my head and turned to Elasia.

“What did you mean by deciding a Fate anyway?”

She shrugged. “Nothing was decided. I was just hoping to make you skeptical enough to the point you wouldn’t encounter the person I was thinking about. But you’ve also grown stronger past my expectations.”

“Right. So, you just lied to me?” I frowned.

“I lied to you, so you could survive,” Elasia corrected. “If you’re just going to spend my time being angry at me, then I have better things to do.”

I let go a sigh. “So, well, tell me things I should know, and what about your gift?”

“Oh, right!” Elasia bubbled up. “Look at this.” Opening her hand, I saw what seemed to be some sort of metal bird, it was small.

“What is that exactly?”

“Well, I need Glim’s assistance to show you what it is.”

I turned to Glim who was silent. It bobbed. [You, need me?]

Elasia nodded and soon, it moved to her, only for it to be grabbed out of the air without effort. “Alright, this is a very rare item that wasn’t crafted for this purpose, but it’s very useful too.” After those words she shoved Glim onto the bird. And before I knew it, Glim disappeared and the bird seemed to come to life.

[Gah, what is happening! I can’t contact The System?!] The bird screeched, its wings flailing. [This is not normal, error code! ERROR?!? Why am I not breaking apart?! Oh! I can still contact things related to Blair— wait, but I cannot connect to The System any longer? Wait…]

I paused. “The bird is… Glim?”

Elasia nodded. “It’s an artifact to trap a System Generated Assistant. It does, however, cut them off from The System. Well, I can take him out. But I can also guess that Glim’s time was about to run out. I mean, what was left to talk about? The quest system? Grand Feats? Evolutions? That’s about it, really. If it explained all those, Glim would’ve poofed out.”

[You’re not wrong!] Glim chirped. [But, I also don’t know how to feel about being some type of metal bird that can no longer assist Blair that much!]

Elasia laughed. “Oh, all of the SGAs are adorable. As soon as things go past functioning as an automatic quest acceptance system, they think they are being useful while in reality they just hinder.” She shook her head. “I know it’s not my place to judge Glim, but I’m sure Blair has doubted you more than trusted you. And now, now that you can ignore The System, you should be a better assistant. One that doesn’t use a stupid personality template.”

She was sort of right… I turned to Glim.

[Right… I can. give this a try, maybe?] It moved its wing up and down, before trying to fly. Glim’s wings moved up and down and it eventually silently moved around in the air. [Hm, it feels pretty much the same. I can now touch things as well… I suppose I can stay around if it’s what Blair wants… I can also finish the tour while at it.]

Elasia shook her head. “I will tell her the things you cannot say. But it is Blair’s choice if you stay around, so,” she turned to me, “what do you say, Blair?”

I pondered for the briefest moments. Perhaps Glim wasn’t the best, but he was always by my side for the most part. If it’s like that… I didn’t want to be lonely either.

“I do want Glim to say.”

“Good.” She smiled. “Now, let’s see. Let us talk about System inconsistencies, how about that?”

“Inconsistencies, you mean all the features and implementations?”

Elasia nodded. “Looks like you get the idea, well, if you notice some notifications are inconsistent, it can be chalked up to that as well. Though getting a chance at an implementation is hard in itself. So.” She shrugged.

“How do you get the chance?”

Elasia met my gaze as her eyes curled. “Do you really want to know?”

“I do.” I nodded.

“Acquire a true unique Feat. Something that has never been done before, a Feat that can echo across the universe. Most of them included mass genocide of some form. You get the point.” Elasia pondered. “And before you ask, no. I haven’t made an implementation myself.”

“I see…” I thought for a few moments before realizing that if Elasia couldn’t herself, then I’d most likely die before even getting the chance.

“Other things. You can only have one Grand Feat at a time but they aren’t lost or anything. You can switch them once every System year, worth mentioning.” Elasia tilted her head. “Your status is troublesome. Considering you’re an archer I would suggest investing in Perception and Agility, though you’ve gone the full unkillable cockroach route. I would suggest investing only on Perception and throwaway in Wisdom. Your Prophecy will give you Vigor and Wisdom. If you want to move faster, maybe consider Agility, but you don’t need it.”

I paused. “You’re giving me status advice?”

She nodded. “Feel free to ignore me, but a high Perception would allow you to see the future, well eventually, when it gets into the thousands.”

Uh huh.

“As far as teaching you skills I do feel like you’re better off learning on your own.”

I frowned. “Do you have any suggestions for me to grow stronger? If you aren’t going to teach me?”

She nodded. “Two options actually. Use my trial and conquer it. Ah— full disclosure, it lasts thirty days or until you clear the main temple. Second option, go around with the wolf and clear as many nests as possible around. And then do my trial.”

“So trial or trial?” I asked with increased annoyance.

“Look, if you want to grow stronger that’s the only option. The dragon will just kill you if you try to fight it now.”

A sigh left me. “And what will you be doing?”

“Oh, I was going to develop your town. But I need permission for that. At the same time, given interference things…” She thought for a second. “Well, it’s fine for me to exist as a helper of sorts, but the town would see no revenue or do anything unless we get more Initiators of the New World to join. At the same time if I dare to even touch any living being in this place I would go bye bye.”

Elasia noticed my gaze and expanded on it.

“The initial plan was to open the town to the ehem— outside world for it to generate revenue and develop into a nice city. I do understand it sounds illogical given the current circumstances, but that is assuming it played like a defense thing. Where the humans would be given towns and cities and the outsides would need to claim them. Instead, we have the Continental Challenges, so…” She trailed off. “Well, it means a change of plans. Since even me being here rubs The System the wrong way, let alone bringing more people in.”

“Right…” I nodded. “How do I give you permission to manage things?”

“Think about the fact you want to give authority to someone.”

I thought about giving Elasia some authority, and a notification came.

[You can give three levels of authority to entity: The Illusionist Lvl. 581:

- Administrator — Can manage the entirety of the territory. They are only below the Owner of the territory. Cannot expand or remove claimed territory.

- Supervisor — Can manage any ongoing project within the claimed territory. Cannot destroy, remove or modify projects.

- Guardian — Protector of the territory.]

I decided to give her Administrator since— well I didn’t have anything to do with the city. Her eyes widened for a moment.

“Are you sure about this, are you not scared I just— you know? Build a giant metal box or something?” Elasia asked, evidently surprised.

“Well, I don’t want to deal with the city thing,” I explained somewhat dismissively. “I also think it’s a good trust exercise.” That was a bit of a lie, I just didn’t want to deal with it.

Elasia nodded stiffly. “I see. I’m still sorry about the trial, I didn’t think— well I… I’m sorry.”

I paused. She looked sad. Level 581, Elasia The Illusionist was actually sorry? I guess she had said it numerous times, but it made me feel somewhat weird and even guilty for not accepting her apologies in the past— well her indirect attempts at them.

“It’s fine… I’ll go to destroy nests after getting a skill and distributing my points.”

“Ah, if you have any questions regarding skill advice, let me know?” Once more, her voice was soft.

“I will.”

I closed my eyes and tried to not think about Elasia’s weirdness of way of being. She didn’t fit the image of all powerful that I had in mind. I opened my status.

Free attribute points: 52

VIG: 160 | END: 70 |

STR: 68 | AGI: 100 |

PER: 143 | WIS: 164 |

I was stumped on what to do with my points, but Elasia’s advice helped me make a choice. I ended up placing 38 on Perception, and 14 on Wisdom. As soon as I did, I felt my hearing grow sharper, and my mana expanded. My attributes were— scary.

I shook my head. I was only level 59. I was sure that the Supreme Moon was miles stronger than I was, even if I managed to defeat it, it was different. At that moment, I couldn’t help but turn to Elasia.

“What are the requirements for C grade evolution?”

She pondered and then smiled. “You really want to know?”

I nodded hurriedly.

“Well, let’s see. C rank Prophecy is a must. Ah, level 125. Grand Feat is a necessity too. I’ll keep my mouth shut about the attribute point requirement. And there is also a different requirement.” Her smile became a teasing one. “Just because the pup got C grade for free doesn’t mean you will.”

“What do you mean free?” I frowned. It was clearly strong.

“Well the dragon would’ve killed it in just a few seconds, it’s what I’m trying to say.” She shrugged. “Grades are good, levels within the grade are better, skills are even better. C grade is a ‘high’ grade, it should be able to shatter the mountain like that.”

I nodded feeling a bit bothered.

“What I’m trying to say Blair, is that C grade you, should be able to wipe the floor with the Moon wolf.” She sighed. “Even if wolf over there gives me the death-stare it’s true. Perhaps it was stronger than D grade, but well, it stood no chance against the dragon. There is just qualitative change even in skills, that is all.”

I accepted Elasia’s words and simply thought about the skills part. “My Grand Feat upgrades my skills by a grade.”

She nodded. “It’s a good first Grand Feat, but I’m sure you’ll find better.”

“Better?”

“I won’t elaborate, but upgraded skills aren’t as great as you think.”

I shrugged and turned to Glim.

“Show me the skill list.”

It nodded. [I can still do that, it makes me happy.]

◇ ◇ ◇

[Skill — Sanguine Culture (Epic) — Plants are one of the basis of all. Produce more of your own blood through mana stimulation. Dark Plants that acknowledge you as their master will also feed from your blood and mana interchangeably.]

[Skill — Vine Manipulation (Epic Passive) — Vines are complex and hard to use. You can control vines as if they were an extension of yourself.]

[Skill — Life Burn (Epic) — Burn your life away in exchange for strength. 10% boost to all your attributes while this skill is active.]

[Feat — Defier of Authority — You defy authority and refuse to bow down before the strong. 5% Boost to Strength, Agility and Vigor when in presence of a higher level, and or higher grade being.

“What are you gonna do, kill me? Please, you’ve tried already. Spare the effort, I can do it myself. For the right price, of course.” — Urxis, The Wretched.]

[Feat — Untamed One — You have survived an— and still hold your head high. You are unkillable. Unbreakable. Untamable. You gain a clearer sense of your Essence.

“Look, just use the beam again. I’m sure they’ll die this time.” — Leim, The Commander of the All-Praxis.]

I stared and felt my mind draw a blank. I turned to Elasia once more.

“I need skill and Feat advice…”

She gave me a weird look but listened to me anyway.

◇ ◇ ◇

I stood outside next to Sun who was lying down. I felt weird as I selected the Feat.

[Feat Acquired — Untamed One — You have survived an— and still hold your head high. You are unkillable. Unbreakable. Untamable. You gain a clearer sense of your Essence.

“Look, just use the beam again. I’m sure they’ll die this time.” — Leim, The Commander of the All-Praxis.]

Elasia said that it was missing a part that I wasn’t supposed to know about, but that the effects were worth it. But the way she said it was just.

Blair, please trust me on this. Please.

She was very emotional about getting me to pick the Feat. I suppose that it was a good choice, just, it was weird.

Maybe I could trust her? I didn’t know.

“I’m finally leaving my home.” Sun stood up and looked towards me. “You say we will kill a lot of other Guardians?”

I nodded. “That’s the plan. To clear any nest that is nearby.”

Apparently, Bringer of Civilization doubled down as a nest finder. Elasia made me tell her all of my Feats and skills, which— I was unsure if I trusted her that much, but at the same time it was probably in my best interest to do so. She also offered to give me more Wisdom, but I was unsure. I wanted to earn my strength.

I turned to Sun.

“Shall we go then?”

He nodded. “Though I was instructed to only help you reach said places.”

“That’s fine.”

I looked to the now somewhat cleared forest behind me and towards the house. I could see the faint outline of Elasia waving at me subtly. In the end, even if I felt some denial towards my thoughts, I felt like she was trustworthy. I got closer to Sun and mounted him.

“Let’s go.”
