The Third Night

Two days had passed.

The door to Leshak’s bedroom didn’t open once in those two days.

“Are you alright?”

Murmured Abadd, who had been standing in front of the bedroom for four hours.

“You don’t look like you’ve been sleeping.”

Abadd hadn’t slept for a long time, so he wondered if he had a good night’s sleep, however, the intermittent noises told him that it wasn’t the case.

“Oh, damn it. You can’t open it?”

Ask Karum, who was crouching by the door.

“Just wait.”

Abadd stared at Karum with a look on his face, wondering if the ‘Bear’ was comfortable even in a situation like this.

But if he was really comfortable, Karum wouldn’t have been sitting here like this, still in an uncomfortable posture.

“Do you really have to sit there like that? The Crown Prince’s Guardian Knight is out of shape. If you feel uncomfortable, go back and lie down.”

“It’s alright. I’ve been stuck to the bed for so long that I feel like I’ve become a blanket myself. Why don’t you sit down?”

“What kind of…… ”

…… Abadd, who was about to snort, finally sat down next to Karum. It’s not that he wanted to, but his legs have been hurting since earlier.

“Isn’t he supposed to be dead?”

Karum snorted.

“If someone was to die, it would be the other way around.”

“In short, he’s The Unknown Assassin.”

“He lost his memory.”

“Do you believe that? How do you know it’s not a lie, that he would use anything to survive?”

“Even if his memory is not lost, The Unknown Assassin will never harm His Majesty.”

“How are you sure of that?”

“Because The Unknown Assassin didn’t kill me either.”

“How, did you not survive by chance?”

“No.”

Karum was firm.

“He didn’t kill me. He tried not to kill me.”

The only thing he had to do, was lying in bed because of his injury.

Karum kept looking back over and over at the things he thought were strange.

Abadd, who had been to Asilah Palace, said that The Unknown Assassins killed people with his eyes.

Back then he could understand why Radan said not to look, and why he closed his eyes tightly and tried not to look at him at all.

Instead of opening his eyes up and killing him, The Unknown Assassin closed his eyes and gave up on his escape.

“Your Majesty wasn’t the only one who was sincere. Even The Unknown Assassin was sincere. But things…… that’s how it happened because we’re at war because they are enemies.”

Abadd shook his head angrily.

“Your head is split and your sense is gone. You’re sincere towards an assassin from an enemy country.”

“Because that’s the truth.”

Karum nodded with strength.

“You said that The Unknown Assassin was actually the Third Prince of Kemened. Hearing that, I was more convinced. The Unknown Assassin likes His Majesty. That’s why he couldn’t kill him.”

“Again, how are you sure of that? Didn’t you hear what The Unknown Assassin did on the run? He said he’s engaged to the head of the Geth. If he were serious, would he do something like that?”

“He lost his memory.”

“Is that the truth?”

“If you don’t believe it, then don’t believe it. Because I think it’s true.”

“Hey, shit!”

Abadd’s annoyance wasn’t really directed at Karum.

It was for himself, who couldn’t draw such a clear conclusion.

Abadd, who was scratching the back of his head, muttered to himself.

“It was pitiful.”

“Who……The Unknown Assassin?”

“I saw it. The basement of Asilah Palace. That’s real…… it wasn’t something a sane human would have come up with. If you were locked up in that place and lived with an iron ball that fits tightly around your head….. Damn, I would have done worse than assassinations just to get out of there.”

“You didn’t even tell me that?”

“Well.”

“Then you know.”

“Yeah, I think so, and I think that’s why I’m worried.”

Abadd let out a painful laugh.

“I feel like my heart is broken. It’s pitiful, so I’ll cut him some slack, but I’ll never forgive him like this. Want me to tell you more?”

“I think so.”

“So, I’m going crazy because I’m worried about what’s going on inside.”

Abadd glanced at the closed bedroom door.

“Because His Majesty couldn’t overcome this sense of separation…… Well, as in recent battles, well…… Yeah, if you act like a killer…… ”

Karum stared intently at Abadd.

“Then you mean you were really worried about The Unknown Assassin?”

“What? No!”

Abadd jumped. However, he reacted like a person who had been stabbed in the heart by the embarrassment of his true intentions.

“……Does it show?”

“Well.”

“Shit!”

Abadd made a false sign.

“You’re more worried about the assassin than with The Unknown Assassin being alone with His Majesty. God, forgive you.”

As if in response from God, another faint moan was heard from inside the bedroom.

Even when they listened to it again, it wasn’t the sound that Leshak was making. It meant there was no reason to worry about The Crown Prince, but strangely, that was more worrying.

“Really, killing him…… he won’t do that would he?”

Karum answered with a serious face.

“I don’t know.”

“What? Say no! If he were really going to kill him, he’d already killed him. Do you think he would have given him his own bathing service?”

“It’s because the mind can be poisonous.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Think about how The Unknown Assassin disappeared and His Majesty saved him. It seemed like someone was definitely wrong somewhere. That’s because the mind is poisoned.”

Abadd opened his mouth as Karum spoke like a wise man, with an extremely bear-like face.

“You too…… It’s clear what happened to his mind. Is everything better now? Is it not still broken?”

“Otherwise, why didn’t the bedroom door open for the second day? This is not normal.”

Just then, a sharp groan came from inside the bedroom.

“This!”

Abadd and Karum jumped to their feet.

The groan was definitely not Leshak’s.

“Majesty! Are you okay? What happened!?”

Abadd asked.

After a while came,

“Don’t disturb me.”

Leshak’s reply was heard, and that was it. A groan of different colors could be heard intermittently after that.

Abadd clenched the doorknob and muttered.

“If you open this door in disobedience to your Lord’s command of ‘not to disturb’, what do you think His Majesty will say? In fact, he doesn’t seem to be normal quite yet, so he might cut off your head.”

Oddly enough, the answer came from behind.

“You can cut it out. A Guardian Knight can’t obstruct, especially because you clearly know that you are in the process of sabotaging. It is also mentioned in the Imperial Court Etiquette.”

It was Sidris.

Abadd quickly turned his head.

Sidris was approaching with a large bowl of food, water, and sweets.

“Ris? What are you bringing?”

“As you can see.”

“Why?”

“If you don’t eat or drink anything for two days and suffer from deprivation, you could die.”

“… …”

Abadd made a slightly absurd expression.

In fact, there were so many things to be embarrassed about, that he didn’t know what to start with.

“Well…… so who will die? No, before that, what is going on in there?”

“What, are you pretending not to know? You hear that moaning and don’t know what’s going on inside? Since when have you been so naive?”

“That is….. Damn it, was it really like that?”

Abadd made a face that said that he didn’t want to know that much.

“That’s a bit…… Even so, it’s not something His Majesty would do. Isn’t it natural to want to pretend you don’t know?”

“And that ‘he might die’ was, of course, speaking of The Unknown Assassin. You’ll know when you bring in some sweets.”

“… …”

Abadd sighed in frustration.

“It seems that His Majesty’s Guardian Knights have gone to great lengths as a group. It’s like we can’t sympathize with the Unknown Assassin. Hey, Rus, weren’t you the one who protested the most when His Majesty decided to lock up The Unknown Assassin in a bedroom instead of in a cage?”

“I’m still fighting back. I think The Unknown Assassin is too dangerous and it’s inappropriate to be with His Majesty.”

“But what are you so worried about?”

“That is my opinion. Yours is different.”

Abadd clicked his tongue.

“It’s a bit…… It’s very scary to ask, but Rus, do you know what His Majesty is thinking?”

“Not Exactly.”

“Then why are you different?”

“The curse of that devil. There is no way not to believe it now.”

Sidris spoke sharply towards Abadd, who frowned, crumpling the bridge of his nose, and Karum, who looked puzzled.

“He said it would poison his heart. Isn’t that what biting the heart means?”

Abadd raised his voice at the word ‘curse’ that he would like to deny.

“…… Don’t be so quick. It’s just a prophecy. It’s just a funny story.”

“It came true. Are you really going to deny it?”

Abadd grabbed Sidris by the shoulders as if trying to stop him.

“Then let’s admit it so easily?”

Sidris pointed over his shoulder to the bedroom door.

“Prince Leshak, who was the lord of chastity, had a prostitute. Then the Unknown Assassin, then the Prince of the enemy country. Is there anyone among them that His Majesty might normally choose? Prince Leshak blew up his chance to end the war and instead ran to the wrong place to catch someone. A person who even got engaged to another man! Then he threw it all away to have a rut with him. And in fear of him escaping, he tied him up with shackles. Do you think that makes sense? Is the Lord you know such a person?”

Abadd groaned in anger.

“Shit! Don’t talk like that!”

“I admit it, Sir Bereri, it’s been done with a prophecy or a curse.”

“Then what! Are you saying that His Majesty will be in that state for the rest of his life? If it’s the Unknown Assassin, it’s a battle, it’s a rut, and he’ll be in estrus for years? Are you going to admit that?”

“Then we must find a way to break the curse!”

Sidris regained his usual coolness.

He was the one who was most embarrassed by Leshak’s change, and also the one who was the angriest and opposed it the most.

But he couldn’t deny it. The situation was clear. Evidence of the curse continued to emerge.

He hadn’t a choice but to accept that Leshak was cursed.

After that, his mind was surprisingly light. If he has been cursed, then they just had to lift the curse.

“Would it be that simple? Curse, it’s so absurd. I don’t even know where or how to touch it.”

“Neither do we. It has been said that there was a prophet of the Imperial Family. If we find him, we’ll find clues.”

“Wasn’t it said that he was expelled for making false prophecies?”

“However, that also means he wasn’t executed. If he is alive, we will find him.”

“Will His Majesty allow it?”

“We won’t know for a while.”

“Alright.”

Karum, who had not said anything up until then, stood up.

“I will go.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, bastard.”

Abadd quickly patted Karum’s shoulder. Karum, still unwell, tumbled backward and fell. As usual, it was as expected.

“Where are you going with your body like that? I’ll go. If I keep staying here, I can’t  imagine what will happen to me, much less His Majesty.”

Sidris frowned and shook his head.

“We don’t need either. I’ve already talked to Roz. He left a little while ago.”

“Where? What is that? The Chief Knight is me!”

“On that subject, you were just moaning like a dog in front of His Majesty’s bedroom! You are the one who needs to calm down, Abadd. We are still at war. Is it not your duty to patrol the walls while he’s doing this, in case of a surprise enemy attack?”

“That…… that’s true.”

Abadd mumbled some abuses and turned away from Sidris.

“Saying the right words is Ris’s specialty, and I think it suits him very well, but it hurts a little sometimes. Rum, don’t you think so too?”

Karum struggled to get up from his seat and then looked at Abadd with a very angry face.

“Go on patrol, Chief Knight.”

“This guy or that guy, do you guys have nothing to do? Am I the only one?”

“Since I brought this food for His Majesty, I’ll wait until he finds it.”

Karum nodded next to Sidris.

“Me too.”

Abadd stubbornly shoved his shoulder between them.

“Then me too.”

“What?”

“Why not?”

“Get going right now.”

This time, Karum pushed Abadd’s back.

Abadd, who stood and grumbled for a while longer, eventually left because of his sense of duty.

However, even as the food Sidris had brought cooled down, Leshak did not open the bedroom door.

Then, the third night began.

“It’s no use, Radan.”

Radan felt Leshak’s touch as he removed the hand that he used to cover his ears.

Leshak took Radan’s hand and brought it to his mouth.

His hot lips pressed against the inside of his wrist where his pulse was beating.

It felt like his heart was being squeezed. Radan gasped and waved his arms.

“Ha, don’t…… please.”

“Don’t you remember this?”

Radan bit his lip.

“Don’t do that,”

“Then what about this?”

Leshak forced him to twist his neck. Radan’s lips hit Leshak’s chin. Leshak moved his head, making Radan rub his lips.

“Radan.”

He called his name.

Radan shook his head as if trying to erase the name he had just heard.

“Radan.”

“……huh,”

“You don’t you know this either?”

“… … “

He didn’t want to know.

But no matter how much he denied it, somewhere in his body, he knew Leshak.

Every time he called his name, he remembered that his name had such a hot temperature.

The memory was awakened by the body. When he came to his senses, he realized he had unconsciously opened his lips and accepted Leshak.

His body knew.

How he kisses, how to react to his kiss.

What sensations he can feel when kissing him.

“No!”

Radan twisted his body fully.

It was dangerous.

As soon as he took one step forward, it seemed that it would take him straight into the past.

The past that he closed so desperately, would become a river and swallow him up.

“Radan.”

Leshak grabbed his leg and clenched his ankle.

His body started to react of its own accord. His shoulders shook and his stomach flipped.

Radan knew what he was going to say.

-Don’t put your knees up.

-Relax or it’ll be difficult.

– Don’t do that, it’s only encouraging me more.

– It would be nice to kiss you. Your lips, your nose, your cheeks.

– Radan.

His mind went blank. A river-like past bit at Radan’s limbs. It took the strength from his whole body.

Redness erupted all over his skin and it became hot. He warmed him up and then made Leshak heat up.

He was scared. He couldn’t stand it because he was afraid.

“No!”

The more he began to remember something, the more fiercely he rejected Leshak.

He waved his arms wildly. The chains attached to the wall rattled, and every time it did, his wrists were ripped open, and blood flowed.

“Stop it!”

Leshak grabbed Radan’s arm. Radan frantically pushed him away and shouted no.

“Oh, I hate it! No!”

And the more Radan’s refusal grew, the more Leshak lost control.

“Don’t say no.”

He grabbed Radan’s chin and pulled him closer.

“All you have to do is to remember me. There is no refusing.”

His body was pushed backward. Radan felt the softness of the bed resting against his back. Leshak’s weight fell on his body that was laying down.

“…….”

His weight became a complete prison.

Realizing that there was no way to escape, Radan slowly lost consciousness.
