Chapter 17 – Gossip News

Only after He Jian appeased her for a long time did Madam He stopped nagging him. He was really afraid to alert the old man upstairs. According to his old man’s personality, even if he explained it was a misunderstanding, the old man would not understand it.

It was very late when He Jian went upstairs to the bedroom. There was no light inside when he opened the door – it was pitch-black. He hesitated for a long time before entering the room, but found no one on the big bed. Turning around, he saw Qi Yueran was covered quilt lying on the sofa in the small living room.

He Jian felt helpless and distressed in his heart. If Qi Yueran slept on the sofa for a night, he would not be comfortable. He moved very lightly as to not wake him up and picked him, wanting to put him in bed. However, as soon as he picked up the person, he felt that the youth stiffened up. It turned out that he was not asleep.

Qi Yueran’s body was just stiff for a moment and he seemed to be able to relax immediately. He did not want He Jian to find that he was not asleep. He Jian knew what he was thinking, so he pretended not to see it. He took the youth to bed and covered him with quilt.

It was very dark in the room. He Jian could only vaguely see Qi Yueran’s outline when he stood by the bed. He could not help touching his hair and heaved a sigh as he said: “It’s my fault today. Don’t be angry.”

When He Jiang thought that he had such a big temper when was young, he suddenly had the feeling of raising a child and almost laughed out. After today’s misunderstanding, he had to rethink again. Was it possible that afterwards, he would have to cleanse his heart and limit his desires to his right hand all his life…

Qi Yueran did not fall asleep. When he smelled the alcohol on He Jian’s body, he felt unhappy. When he heard He Jian talk, he also did not answer. Although he told himself that it was just a marriage of convenience and that it was unreasonable to be angry about this kind of thing, but no matter how he warned his heart, it was still feeling uneasy.

Upon seeing that he had not responded for a long time, He Jian sighed again and turned to the bathroom to take a bath.

Master Qi said that he was ready to come over in the next few days. Thus, from the garret to kitchen, the He’s villa began to be bustling. Although the Qi Family was only a rich merchant in a small place, the He Family was fond of etiquette, and since their youngest son had set his mind, the He Family must gave the other party ample face. Their display of grandeur could not be in small scale.

He Jian knew that Qi Yueran was still angry. They had been close recently, but at this time, they completely returned to the “strangers” relationship to the point that Qi Yueran was very polite and estranged with him, where he was not even that polite to Master He and Madam He.

Two days after the incident, He Jian – thinking that young people were forgetful and also did not remember bearing grudges when he was young – waited for a few days before coaxing Qi Yueran and admitting his mistake. He supposed that it was good enough. When he planned this way, he felt that there were some off track subtlety between them. They were simply like pattern of young lovers at odd with each other.

However, on the morning of the third day, the situation did not slowly improve as He Jian thought, but turned into more troublesome. Who would have expected that even Master He, who did not know about the incident at first, heard about it and lost his temper?

Qi Yueran also did not want to continue the cold war as it was not good for him. He could neither be cold nor indifferent to He Jian in He’s house and it was impossible for the He Family’s members to blame He Jian. Therefore, he could only find himself unhappy. He thought that in the future, he would not fantasize about anything. He would just like to complete the marriage of convenience per his role.

Qi Yueran did not know whether this was considered as he had gotten over it and was preparing to talk with He Jian when an unexpected incident happened.

After the dinner party, Xia Hang naturally could not let Qin Ya off. He told the agent directly that this person could no longer be employed. The agent had already planned to favor Qin Ya before. He looked good and young, and knew that he had to work hard to climb up [be successful]. This sort of type was the easiest to become popular and much better than the noble and virtuous type that would not accompany people to drink.

However, the big boss had spoken. Even if it was the Emperor Superstar, he would also be hidden in the snow[1]. In the past, when Xia Yichen was still in charge of Hua Film, he meant what he said. Now that the Crown Prince Xia Hang took over, this style of work had not changed at all.

Qin Ya was hidden in the snow overnight. All of his public notices were removed, and magazine covers and advertisements that had been agreed were also cancelled. Boss Xia had spoken, saying that the relationship with He Family was indispensable. Even if he lost money, it was not a big deal.

Qin Ya also knew that he had gotten in trouble. However, he did not think that it was Boss Xia who gave face to He Family, but thought that it was Qi Yueran who made trouble to block him behind his back. Inside, he felt scared and unacceptable. He thought that Qi Yueran – who originally was no more than just a landlord in the valley, too inferior to show in public – had climbed onto the rich aristocratic family.

He did not want to be hidden in snow like this, but it was no use going to the agent. In the end, he gritted his teeth and decided to burn the boat [2] and make thing worse. Anyway, he was already hidden in snow. There was nothing more miserable than this blockage [in his career].

Qin Ya spent money to hire a public relations team and started to hype his affair with He Jian on Weibo, forums and gossip magazines.

He had now uploaded a photo on Weibo, which looked like a selfie, and said that it was a party with friends in the XX entertainment city. As a result, a VIP was accidentally captured in the photo. Of course it was the third young master of He Family, He Jian.

He Jian was currently a popular figure in gossip magazines. Everyone had heard that He Third-shao turned over a new leaf and was going to start his own business. He had also wholeheartedly pursued the Quanlin’s rich merchant Qi Family’s youngest gongzi, and soon to be engaged.

Originally, He Jian did not hid and concealed away the matter of his engagement. It was almost an open secret. Now that everyone discovered He Third-shao’s cheating partner, of course it was going to be hyped.

With a little specialized knowledge, one could see that the photo was obviously photoshoped. However, the gossip magazines would not ruin their rice bowls[3]. When no one came out to question, they continuously added details to make it more interesting. Afterwards, a bunch of people said that they seemed to have seen two protagonists of the scandal that day.

After Qin Ya finished posting on Weibo with He Third-shao adding to the hype, he became the focus of attention in a day and all of a sudden his fans increased dramatically.

As a result, when things got hot, Qin Ya deleted his Weibo and posted in a new Weibo, saying that his Weibo account had been stolen and that the post was not made by him. He also sent a long Weibo’s post, which made it clear that he had no special relationship with He Jian, but had only met once.

He also said that He Jian was not as frivolous and silk-clothed as everyone had heard of him, but a man of responsibility and ability. He even added that He Third-shao was about to be engaged to the young master of Qi Family, he did not want to destroy other people’s good relationship and so on.

Qin Ya presented himself as a big white lotus flower. His long Weibo’s post was written in consideration and very sensible, but the implied meaning were full of grievance hint, which made people feel that he revealed what he intended to hide. It would be a joke if he had nothing to do with He Third-shao.

As soon as this matter came out, Qi Yueran was naturally implicated. Some people sympathized with him; he had yet joined the He Household, He Third-shao then hooked up with others. Some people also scolded him, saying that he should not be afraid to be cuckolded since he wanted to climb such a rotten person as He Third-shao.

Qi Yueran was still too young. He had only been in the business circle for less than a year, but he had never been in contact with the entertainment industry. He had never experienced the bloodbath in the entertainment industry. In this circle, it was common to turn black and white upside down and it depended on whose PR team had the means to do it. There was no lower limit for false news in gossip magazines and neither was it uncommon to hear fans scolded people.

Qi Yueran did not expect that there were still a group of people who expressed their opinions to scold him. Before that, he was still a bit naively thought that he was the victim on the whole, or it would be alright to be an outsider. As a result, a bunch of people came out to say “whoever is pitiful must have a cause to be despised”, “don’t blame others when you are being stepped on if you are too soft”, “not worthy of sympathy” and so on.

When Master He saw the news, he was very angry. Unexpectedly, there were some people who recklessly used He Family as a stepping stone to climb up. He attached the most importance to reputation [face]. How could he stand the fact that He Family’s social status was pointed the finger of blame? He asked people to check the facts. He still believed He Jian had turned a new leaf and was framed. As a result, he found out that He Jian really had something to do with the small actor named Qin Ya at the dinner party that day. He Jian even brought Qi Yueran with him that day.

Master He blew his top. However, Qi Yueran was still an outsider now, and he could not scold his family in front of outsider. Thus, he called He Jian to the study, pushed a pile of gossip magazines on the table to the ground, where several of them hit He Jian’s feet, and he said: “What’s going on? You took someone home and said you want to get married. I’ve take a look at him and I don’t object to it. As a result, in just a few days, you started messing around in front of people? It’s even making a lot of uproar.”

He Jian did not expect that there would be such a play, he said: “This matter is a misunderstanding…”

Before he finished, Master He smacked on the table and interrupted him as he said: “You’ve grown up, and still want to lie to me. What do you think you have done that I can’t find out while I sit at home?”

He Jian knew that further explanation would only anger the old man, so he was forced to keep silent.

Master He said: “You properly deal with this matter for me. The people of Qi Family will come soon. If they hear some gossips, you won’t get married.”

Madam He had pulled Qi Yueran for a chat about domestic trivia for a long time. In fact, she was trying to help her youngest son by putting in good words. She was afraid that Qi Yueran took the matter to heart.

He Jian and Master He did not show up at dinner. After dinner, Qi Yuexin asked Qi Yueran to push him back into the guest room, saying that he wanted to talk to him.

Qi Yueran pushed him upstairs, went into the room and closed the door. Only then did Qi Yuexin speak: “There are a lot of crazy talks on the Internet today. What actually is going on? Is it true?”

Qi Yueran was silent for a long time. He never told a lie to his older brother before. Neither did he want to lie to his older brother nor make him worry. After he thought about it, he said: “Dage doesn’t have to worry. It’s just some gossip news.”

Qi Yuexin looked at him as he answered ambiguously and said: “I see you’re neither cold nor warm to He Third-shao these days. It doesn’t seem to be unnecessary gossip news. You two are going to be engaged soon. How can such a thing happen?”

Qi Yueran fell into silent again. After a long time, he said: “He Jian and I are originally on marriage of convenience. Who is responsible for whom and who is sincere to who are out of question.”
