Warming Up

The days after the holidays were always long and boring.

This was already Bian Shengjian’s 13th yawn while lying on the table. His cheeks were sore, and even his chin was about to be dislocated.

Boring.

The fan in the classroom was whirling, and the atmosphere of the classroom was as silent as ever. Only Lao Tan was left to tirelessly sing a one-man show on the podium.

Bian Shengjian doesn’t know what’s wrong with the group of people in Class 4. They’re quite crazy when fooling around after class, but in class, they don’t move and only keep still. They either stare at the book or look at the blackboard with a dull expression. This possessed state looked a little scary.

Very boring.

Bian Shengjian sighed.

There are still…nine days before the holiday…Come on, how can I endure this?

Bian Shengjian held his eyelids and forced himself to focus on the writing on the blackboard. Although he was not interested in learning, he was not the kind of person who just didn’t study at all.

“In the autumn of Wang Xu, July is expected…” Lao Tan recited on the podium, Bian Shengjian followed the book line by line, and made two annotations or notes on the side.

“Well, what did Su Shi say in the following sentence? Ah he said, Su Ziri’s guests also know the water and the moon, then we can know the relationship between water and the moon right? So the time has passed like this, but it has never been. Among them, the Si Dai refers to the river water, so the time has passed like this… “

As Shengjian listened to it, the pen in his hand gradually began to slip, from the original strokes to a messy one. At last, he could not tell what was written, and it was all a mass of ink smudged on the paper.

So sleepy…

Bian Shengjian opened his eyes with difficulty, and wrote five words in a row next to the title, but he still couldn’t resist the hypnotic teaching atmosphere, as if he would lose consciousness in the next second as long as he stopped writing.

“Okay, the following sentence….” Lao Tan was about to circle the key points on the PPT, when he suddenly turned his head and looked at the one in the back row.

“Fuck.” Bian Shengjian woke up the moment his forehead hit the table, but the impact was so loud that the whole class basically heard it.

Just great!

Bian Shengjian was a little embarrassed, but on the surface, he was still calm, and could even put on a face ”Which idiot was it?” immediately after reacting. This expression made the others look left and right finding the culprit.

Lu Shen couldn’t help laughing.

“Third brother, you’re pretty good at pretending.” He lowered his voice and shouted at Shengjian.

Bian Shengjian’s face was tense, and he turned his head to look at Lu Shen expressionlessly. “Shut up.”

Lu Shen only lowered his head and silently smiled at the book for a while, and then sighed softly after laughing.

Idiot.

********

“Who are you cursing?”

Bian Shengjian stared at a man standing in the aisle. He thought about rushing back to the dormitory after class to make up for his sleep, but when he passed someone, he suddenly heard a low voice. Fuck you.

“I didn’t curse at you.” The man immediately started to play stupid, but Bian Shengjian recognized that he was the one who had been hostile to him, both openly and secretly, since the beginning of school, the one that ate leek box in the classroom last time. His name seemed to be……

“Ma Xiao, right?” Bian Shengjian frowned.

“Ma…” The man immediately became angry. “It’s Ma Jing! You’re the one that’s called Ma Xiao!”

“Keep shouting.” Bian Shengjian squinted his eyes. “Why did you just curse at me?”

Ma Jing was a person who was always angry and liked to find trouble, however Bian Shengjian would usually be too lazy to pay attention to this kind  of a person. Unfortunately, he had a bad day today, moreover, that dirty word just poked at his sensitive nerve, which made him irritated.

“Why did you just curse at me?”

Bian Shengjian stared into his eyes and repeated it calmly.

“I…”As if Ma Jing had his artillery burning, he had an inexplicable temper and plans to fight Bian Shengjian to the end, “I have endured you for a long time!”

“Well, let’s hear it.” Bian Shengjian looked at him.

“Why are there so many girls in the class surrounding you!” Ma Jing roared, “Why!”

Bian Shengjian’s original anger was wiped out by his roar, and after reacting, he still wanted to laugh. “Go after whomever you like, what does this have to do with me?”

“Yes! I have someone I like!” Ma Jing glared at him and shouted again in full view to the public. “But I saw that when she asked you for WeChat last week, you directly rejected her! Later, she cried, you know?”

Bian Shengjian couldn’t help twitching the corners of his mouth, looking at Ma Jing, who was blushing with excitement, and didn’t say anything for a while.

“Are you a fool?” Bian Shengjian said, “I rejected her because I didn’t like her, and I didn’t want to let her have any fantasies. As for whether she cried or not….I don’t care”

Ma Jing raised his head abruptly, his eyes almost burst out into fire. “What did you say?”

“Chase whoever you like. There’s no need to get angry with me, you idiot.” Bian Shengjian glanced at him, “But whether you have this skill, it’s better to take care of yourself first and wash your face and hair.”

Ma Jing touched the pimples on his face and his oily hair, and became even more angry. “Fuck you, Bian Shengjian! Aren’t you just fucking rich? Why belittle me like that!”

Bian Shengjian didn’t say a word, he took a step forward and punched him in the stomach neatly. When Ma Jing was bent down from the pain, he grabbed his collar and forced him to lift his face up, his voice almost cold. “Don’t curse at me, you bastard.”

Ma Jing was probably stunned by this unexpected punch, and his face twitched in pain, but when Bian Shengjian let go, he still scolded inarticulately, “Fuck your mother. I’ll curse the hell I want!!”

The line of reason in Bian Shengjian’s mind snapped instantly, he picked up a chair next to him and swung it directly at Ma Jing, shouting, “I told you to shut up!”

“Hey, hey!” A few of the crowd who were only eating melons on the side suddenly couldn’t sit still. Although the classroom chair was not an iron chair, it would still be a problem if it really hit people. Several boys who had eaten with Shengjian last time were stunned and rushed forward. “Shengjian! Calm down!”

Ma Jing was so frightened by the oncoming shadow of the chair that was about to hit his face, that he couldn’t even move his body.

At a critical moment, someone reached out and grabbed the leg of the chair in time, literally interrupting the farce.

 “Third brother, calm down.”

“Let go.” The expression on Bian Shengjian’s face was a little gloomy. He tried to pull Lu Shen’s hand,  but he didn’t move. The anger in Bian Shenjian’s heart burned even more vigorously, “I said, let go!”

Lu Shen still didn’t move, and looked at him with a calm expression. “Put down the chair first, and let’s talk about it if you have something to say.”

“This is none of your business.” Bian Shengjian might really be angry, and he pulled the back of the chair up with a sudden force in his hand in an upward motion. This time, Lu Shen finally didn’t hold back, and the whole person hurriedly leaned backward to avoid being stabbed in the face by the chair’s legs.

But unfortunately, because the chairs in No. 4 Middle School were a little old, there were always chips on the edges, and if one touched them accidentally, they would be scratched. So when the chair was raised in mid-air, a wooden thorn was facing Lu Shen’s face and it accidentally rubbed hard on the top of his brow bone.

A few seconds later, blood dripped to the ground.

Bian Shengjian was stunned for a while, and his anger instantly dissipated. He froze for a moment and hurriedly threw the chair to the ground and took a few steps forward. “Fuck, are you alright?”

“I’m alright.” Lu Shen raised his hand and touched his face. When he put it down, half of his palm was covered in blood. “……should be alright.”

“Fuck, I didn’t do it on purpose.” Bian Shengjian looked at the cut above Lu Shen’s brow bone. Although it was not long, it looked quite scary, and there was a steady stream of blood slipping from the wound, almost flowing into his eyes. “Follow me to the infirmary!”

Lu Shen covered the wound with his hand and nodded, then Bian Shengjian realized that his hand was shaking a little. He didn’t even look down at the blood on the ground. He touched one of Lu Shen’s arms and pointed at the frightened Ma Jing. “Someone blocked you this time, but next time you provoke me, I will drag you to a place where there is no surveillance, put a sack over your head and break your legs.”

“Let’s go.” Bian Shengjian reached out and patted Lu Shen’s back. “I really didn’t mean it, I’m sorry.”

“It’s really okay.” Lu Shen pressed the wound with the tissue that was handed over, and smiled. “I was afraid you would directly smash someone’s face this time. That would be really troublesome.”

“He came to find trouble first.” Bian Shengjian snorted and turned to stare at Lu Shen’s face. “Fuck…won’t it leave a scar in the future?”

“Ah.” Lu Shen just put down his hand, and a few seconds later, blood gushed out again.

“Cover it.” Bian Shengjian quickly grabbed his hand and covered it again.

“If it leaves a scar, will I be disfigured?” Lu Shen said.

“Probably not.” Bian Shengjian gritted his teeth, “It’s all to blame for that idiot Ma Jing, I’ll deal with him later.”

“Forget it, Third brother,” Lu Shen, thinking about the wound, squeezed Bian Shengjian’s shoulder. “I know you didn’t do it on purpose.”

Bian Shengjian didn’t speak, and after taking Lu Shen to the school infirmary, he stared nervously at the expression on the school doctor’s face. “Sister, this wound won’t leave a scar, right?”

The school doctor was in her thirties this year, and she was very satisfied when he addressed her as sister. She took off the tissue on Lu Shen’s wound and glanced at it, and it took a long time before she said. “Fortunately, the wound is not very deep. Let me stop the bleeding for you first.”

“Will it leave a scar?” Bian Shengjian still asked nervously, “Does he need anti-tetanus?”

“It won’t leave a scar at this level,” the school doctor glanced at him, “don’t be so nervous, just sit down first.”

“Oh.” Bian Shengjian replied, still staring at the cotton swab that was wiped back and forth on Lu Shen’s face and said, “the wound shouldn’t be in any contact with water?”

“Try not to.” The school doctor said and picked up the bottle of alcohol, “Close your eyes, this may hurt a little.”

“Yeah.” Lu Shen closed his eyes obediently, and didn’t even frown when the alcohol touched the wound, he just gave a light hiss from his mouth.

“Does it hurt?” Bian Shengjian asked immediately.

“It doesn’t hurt.” Lu Shen answered while his eyes were still closed.

“It doesn’t hurt? But you’re still not fully disinfected yet.” Bian Shengjian stood up, “

Isn’t there some kind of mild alcohol here? Just the kind that doesn’t hurt when sprayed.”

“This classmate,” the school doctor’s patience was finally exhausted, “if you are worried, you can take him to the hospital outside. I can only do a simple bandage for him here. I can’t do more of what you asked.”

“Okay.” Bian Shengjian glanced at the gauze covering Lu Shen’s wound again, and then slowly said, “Thank you, sister.”

“You’re welcome.” The school doctor sighed, “It’s alright, you can take him back, try not to get it wet these days, it will be fine soon.”

After leaving the door of the school doctor’s office, Bian Shengjian couldn’t help staring at the piece of gauze stuck on Lu Shen. “Does it still hurt?”

“…It doesn’t hurt anymore.” Lu Shen said, “Third brother, have you never been hurt before?”

Bian Shengjian frowned, ” My back was smashed open twice before and it needed at least seven or eight stitches. “

“Then my wound should be nothing, right?” Lu Shen turned his head to look at him, “Why are you so nervous?”

“I…” Bian Shengjian was at a loss for words for a while, “because you were accidentally injured.”

“Really.” Lu Shen smiled and hooked his shoulders with his hands, “Thank you for caring for me, I thought that if I died on some street, no one would care about it.”

“What the hell? On a street.” Bian Shengjian was a little upset, “Are you doing this to frighten me.”

“To frighten you.” Lu Shen laughed three times.

“Do your parents really not care about you?” Bian Shengjian paused for a while before opening his mouth, “Are they never home?”

“Well, very rarely, I don’t know when they will come back.” Lu Shen lowered his head and stared at his toes, “No one cares about me, and no one sees me. Now that I’m disfigured, they may be even more reluctant to do so ..”

“What’s wrong?” Bian Shengjian interrupted him immediately, “Didn’t the doctor say that it will be fine if you don’t get it wet for a few days. “

“Ah, that’s good.” Lu Shen nodded.

Bian Shengjian didn’t speak any more, and his mood slowly calmed down as they walked.

Yes, it is obviously a small wound, why are you so nervous?

“Third brother,” Lu Shen looked ahead, “Why did you just fight with Ma Jing?”

“His mouth was mean.” Bian Shengjian’s greasy face flashed in his mind and got a little angry.

“Is it because he mentioned your mother?” Lu Shen squeezed his hand twice.

“Hmm.” Bian Shengjian was silent for a while before answering, “I don’t allow anyone to talk about her.”

When the latter sentence was said, Bian Shengjian himself did not realize that his tone was a little low.

“It’s okay, people always have to move forward.” Lu Shen reached out and patted him on the back, “She’s been looking at you all the time.”

Bian Shengjian didn’t hear any other meaning from his words, but simply thought that he was comforting him, which warmed his heart.

“But what if I really lose my appearance?” Lu Shen retracted his hand and touched the gauze on his head again, looking a little distressed.

“Then what do you want me to do?” Bian Shengjian sighed.

“Be responsible for me.” Lu Shen looked at him with a natural expression, “What if no one wants me in the future.”

“What are you…” Bian Shengjian gritted his teeth, “Is it okay to be this brazen?”

“Can I have you?” Lu Shen smiled.
