Chapter 1

“Uggh…”

Rosena groaned when she felt a stinging pain from her waist to her legs.

She had barely moved, but pain spread all over her body.

She opened her eyes when she felt the touch of a warm blanket on her very sensitive skin.

Rosena, who quickly removed the blanket as soon as she opened her eyes, froze.

She was naked.

Rosena, who rose from the bed, groaned and held her back.

A numbing sensation came up her spine.

Rosena could barely sit on the bed, and for a moment, stared at the wall expressionlessly.

When she gradually came to her senses, she looked around.

This room, full of strange things, was the cabin where Rosena stayed.

“Oh my God.”

She can’t believe it wasn’t a dream.

Rosena, who was sitting still, slowly looked away and glanced to her side.

It was well organized as if nothing had happened, but the warmth that had not cooled down told her that someone had just been lying down.

Rosena wrapped her hands around her face. Then she remembered vividly what happened last night.

That man’s hands, as cold as ice, burned with flames as soon as they touched her body.

It was no exaggeration to say that his big palms swallowed Rosena.

He politely but persistently indulged Rosena in pleasure and pampered her in every nook and cranny, leaving nothing untouched.

The skin that had been touched by his burning breath was still overflowing as if it still remained.

The last thing she remembered were brilliant blond hair and swaying blue eyes.

The eyes filled with heat made her stomach flutter just by looking at them.

Rosena grabbed her stomach. She still felt like the heat hadn’t gone out.

“Even so, I can’t believe I slept with him!”

Rosena sighed deeply and lifted herself completely from the bed.

A thin blanket slid to the floor and smooth skin was exposed to the air.

Rosena looked down at her bed again. Seeing the empty place next to her made her feel a little bitter.

Well, it was better than having an awkward morning.

Rosena began to dress with a calm face.

“All I know is only his name……”

Rosena knew very little about the man who spent the last night together with her.

Maybe it’s only natural because they met for the first time yesterday.

After putting on her shirt and pants, Rosena paused. Even though she was already done, there was one more piece of clothing left.

She was going to take a look at what kind of clothes it was, and something fell onto the floor.

“Huh?”

It was a badge that one carries around to prove their family’s identity.

Rosena also always carried a card with the Count’s emblem on it.

Suddenly curious about his family, Rosena looked at the emblem in closer detail.

A crown with two intersecting knives and flame decorated it.

It was an emblem that symbolized the imperial family.

***

The Count of Estarot.

It was one of the most prestigious and wealthy families since the founding of the country.

The Estarots have served as imperial executives for generations, and the daughters of the Estarots were once so powerful that they were nominated for empress.

However, the golden age of the Estarot family, which commanded hundreds of years of history, was nearing its end.

Count Philian Estarot was a man famous for his integrity.

He gained a lot of trust from the people of the land, but his upright beliefs offended the nobles who had been corrupted by corruption.

The nobles constantly spoke ill of the Estarot family, and it eventually fell out of favor with the imperial family.

Since then, it started the fall of the Estarot family.

Count Estarot sold his estate little by little to survive.

Businesses that were doing well were closed one by one, and they had to shake off the family fortune that they had gathered for generations to save the people of the land due to an attack by the monsters.

To make matters worse, the Count, who worked day and night, collapsed and died shortly after.

The Count family, who lost the head of the family, began to collapse rapidly.

There was no one to inherit the title immediately because there were only two daughters without successors.

Since there was no head of the family, the people underneath naturally scattered, and everyone left the mansion.

Rosena, who had watched the family collapse little by little since childhood, grew up earlier than others.

She expected this day to come, and decided that she should revive the family on behalf of her father.

However, there was not much that the young lady of a Count could do.

At best, she could only socialize in society or enter the imperial family and work as a maid of the imperial family.

There was no way Rosena, who was not an adult yet, could pull up the family at once.

Nevertheless, Rosena did not give up.

She was busy trying to get the Estarot family back up.

Instead of shutting herself in at home or going out into society like other young ladies, she looked for people to help the county and met with people of the land to coordinate taxes.

And whenever she had time, she did something to make money.

She worked her ass off for her only family left, but it was like pouring water into a bottomless jar.

Rosena’s mother, Countess Macella Estarot, is a person who couldn’t do anything.

The only thing she’s good at is spending money.

Her husband, the Count, was frugal to himself, but generous to his family.

The Countess, who had been used to it, could not cut back on spending despite her husband’s death.

Even if she had to sell her old stuff, she was busy recalling the glory of the past.

And Rosena’s little sister, Rania, is no exception.

Having hogged a lot of love with her pretty appearance and charming personality, she had to possess what others have to get rid of her temper.

Even though the family was in a difficult position, Rania bought trendy clothes and enjoyed regular parties along with other young ladies.

As a result, no matter how hard Rosena tried, her debts continued to increase, and eventually reached the brink of bankruptcy.

Rosena, who had been sacrificing herself even by losing sleep, overheard her mother’s voice one day as she walked through the hallway.

– I’ve been offered a wedding.

Rosena put her back on the wall unconsciously at the word marriage.

– One of you should get married with the condition to pay off the debts……

– Mother, I don’t want to do it even if I die! He’s so ugly. Look how fat he is!

Rosena peeked into the drawing room through the open door. In the drawing room, her mother and Rania sat side by side looking at a portrait of someone.

– Don’t worry. Your sister is the one who will get married. It’s annoying because he’s a commoner, but… they will keep supporting us because his family has a lot of money.

– So if sister gets married, we will be rich again, right?

– That’s right. Not as good as when your father was alive, but we will be able to maintain this kind of life.

A friendly laugh came out of the drawing room.

Rosena, who was leaning her back against the wall, sank to the floor as no strength was left in her legs.

Everything she just heard sounded like a lie.

But the laughter coming out of the drawing room told her it was real.

She didn’t struggle to live her life just to get this.

Still, they were blood-related families, and she believed that they could get through it somehow.

But it was a stupid idea. Those two people were thinking of selling Rosena under the pretext of marriage.

Shocked, Rosena managed to lift herself up. Her whole body trembled like a cottonwood.

Rosena stumbled down the hall.

And when she came to her senses, she was sitting on her bed.

She sat on the bed for a long time, dazed. Then something hot rolled down her cheeks.

Rosena slowly raised her hand and touched her cheek.

It was a tear she had never shed before, even after her father’s death.

Her father’s face came to mind in a blurred vision.

Smiling brightly, he was a man who loved Rosena generously and treated her without discrimination.

Rosena silently shed tears. Then she laid down on the bed and sobbed.

Rosena had a headache after crying for a long time, she touched her sore eyes.

Crying doesn’t change anything.

If she was stupid, she’d marry a man she didn’t even know.

Rosena rose from her seat and paced around the room.

Her one and only little sister who always acted immaturely, and the mother who gave birth to her yet only favored her little sister…..

Rosena might be the only one who held onto such lingering feelings of missing the harmonious old days.

Whenever she had a hard time, she thought of wanting to run away, but she remembered her family’s faces and got her mind back together.

But now, Rosena was trying to make her imagination come true.

Rosena organized the things around her and packed some simple items. Then she opened the closet and changed into her most modest clothes.

She sat on the chair to leave a note, but could only look at the blank paper. She wanted to say a lot, but she didn’t have anything to say.

Rosena, who crumpled the paper and threw it into the trash can, looked into the mirror for the last time.

Not a bright, fresh lady, but a young lady who was tired of harsh life was standing there.

Rosena, who looked away from the mirror, opened the door with a final glance at her beloved room.

From the moment she leaves this room, she vowed to live for herself, not for her family.

“I’m going to quit now.”

And so, Rosena left the county.
