Chapter 19

During one peaceful morning while the Estarot family was having tea time.

On the luxuriously colorful table, laid a silver three-tiered tray full of desserts.

Tablecloths made of silk and chairs crafted by artisans that were the best items suited for any noble family.

It was all bought by Macella and Rania.

Rania Estarot, who was enjoying tea time, picked up the teacup as gracefully as possible.

The quality of the tea was lower than what she used to drink, but it wasn’t too bad.

But Rania, unable to settle for it, had a disapproving look on her face.

“Mother.”

Rania quietly called her mother, Macella.

Macella replaced the answer by glancing at Rania.

“I want to get a divorce.”

It was a bomb-like remark, but Macella also looked at Rania with a look of wonder.

Rania let out a sigh and whined.

“Yesterday was our wedding anniversary, yet my husband didn’t give me a flower as a gift, did he?”

“That’s too much.”

When she agreed, Rania became elated and gossiped about her husband.

He was not friendly, there was no delicacy. Complaints slipped out of her mouth countless times.

Rania, who had been cursing her husband for a long time, muttered to herself with a relieved face.

“Thanks to whom he became a count…”

A year ago, Rania married the second son of a marquis family.

Since he had no title that could be inherited, the second son of a marquis became a count.

It was the Count of Estarot, who lost its old glory and had only a name left, but he was still a count.

He, who became count, repaid the family’s debt to some extent with the money he had taken from the marquis.

But Rania and Macella were not satisfied.

For women who always insisted on the best, that level of wealth was not satisfactory.

In particular, Rania’s dissatisfaction with her husband grew.

Thanks to her, he became a count, and yet he didn’t do his best for her.

Moreover, she felt it was unfair whenever she looked at his ordinary face.

Even if she couldn’t get a husband whose face was on the same level as hers, at least she should get a successor of a marquis or duke.

Rania, who was filled with complaints inside, blamed Rosena for everything.

If she hadn’t run away, she wouldn’t have married the second son of a humble marquis, and could have lived her life like before.

“Mother, I think I’m… to blame.”

Rania, who had been swearing at her husband just now, looked sullen.

“What do you mean?”

“We’ve been married for a year. But we aren’t expecting any news yet…”

When Masela saw her depressed daughter, she dropped the teacup, and said out loud.

“Did the count say that? That you can’t have children?”

She looked at Rania with a face that said she would not stand still.

Rania raised her hand and pretended to shed tears from her dry eyes.

“No, it’s just my guess.”

Rania’s murmur hardened Macella’s lips.

She was eager to visit the count and argue with him at any minute.

However, since she had already admonished the count the other day, the relationship would be even more strained if she barged into him again.

Anyway, he was now the new Count of Estarot and the only cash cow for the mother and daughter.

“Rania, don’t cry because your mother will scold the count well later.”

As she whispered tenderly, Rania nodded.

Even though everyone in the world turned their backs, her mother was on her side.

Rania, who was relieved, muttered to herself.

“It wouldn’t have been like this if sister was here…”

The words hardened Macella’s face. She nervously snapped and folded the fan.

“Forget it. She’s a selfish kid who left us to survive alone.”

Macella’s lips trembled angrily.

“Where can a noble young lady go when she runs away from home? She probably died on the street.”

It was more of a curse. But Rania smiled as if pleased with her words.

Holding the teacup again, Rania reached for the dessert in front of her.

“Mother, it’s a cookie made by a new chef. I think it suits your taste, so try it.”

“As expected, you are the only one who takes care of me.”

It was around the time when the mother and daughter pair were chatting in a friendly way.

From afar, a servant took a walk and held out the letter in his hand politely.

“Madam, the letters have come.”

“Letters?”

Macella picked up the letters right away.

One of the two letters was a tea party invitations

from a baroness.

Macella snorted and dropped the letter on the floor.

“What do you want from our family?”

She kicked her tongue, saying the class wasn’t a match. No matter how much the county was not what it used to be, Marcella was Count Estarrot’s former mistress.

Macella, who raised her head stiffly, checked the other envelope.

The square golden envelope was radiant, and reflected in the sunlight.

Macella checked the seal on the envelope.

It was an imperial emblem.

Surprised, Macella looked around at the envelope.

It was the first time in ten years that the royal family sent a letter to the county.

Even if there was an important event, the imperial family used to leave out their family.

But why did they send the letter personally this time?

“Mother?”

Rania, who was looking at the envelope next to her, called Macella. Urged her to open it.

Macella slowly tore off the wax seal.

When she took out a smooth piece of paper and spread it, she could see the letters written in a glossy way.

Macella and Rania clung together and read the letter.

It was written magnificently, but the conclusion on the bottom line stated that there would be a wedding.

The two confirmed the names of the bride and groom written at the bottom.

Their eyes grew as if they were about to pop out.

The name written on the groom’s side belonged to the third prince.

It was already surprising that the third prince was going to get married, but there was something else that shocked the two.

It was the name written on the bride’s side.

[Bride – Rosena Estarot]

Macella, who had repeatedly confirmed the name Rosena Estarot, dropped the letter on the table.

She wondered if it was a lady with the same name, but even the family name was kindly written.

The mother and daughter looked at each other silently for a moment.

Shocked, Macella and Rania asked each other to confirm if what they saw was true.

“What’s written here is sister’s name, right?”

“I think so. The groom is… the third prince, right?”

The rumours of the third prince were all too well known to them.

But the third prince and Rosena were getting married!

“What the hell did she do?”

Macella sighed with her hands wrapped around her cheeks.

Judging by the wedding invitation that came in like a notification without even asking the family’s consent, something seemed to have happened.

“She left the house egoistically just to marry the stupid and ugly third prince?”

Rania murmured with contempt.

Listening silently, Macella was lost in agony for a moment.

There was a gnawing sound from the fingertips of touching the paper.

Even if the third prince is ugly, he’s still ultimately an imperial family member.

The status of the county would be different if she had in-laws with the imperial family.

It was clear that nobles who used to ignore them would grovel.

“Rania.”

“Yes?”

As Rania raised her head, Macella smiled until deep wrinkles were shown.

“The opportunity to regain the glory of the old days has returned.”

Rania’s eyes opened round. She looked like she didn’t understand what her mom was saying.

Instead of explaining, Macella ordered the servant standing behind her to bring a piece of paper and pen.

While the servant brought them, Macella tapped the table with her fingernails.

“Looking at the invitation, she must be staying in the imperial palace.”

Macella said with her eyes shining.

“I’ll have your sister come home.”

***

The gray light spread by the bedside like a misty flower.

Rosena patted Illian on the head, who was sleeping soundly.

He begged her to sing a lullaby and she couldn’t believe he’d fall asleep.

Rosena, half-lying down next to Illian, looked around the room.

A desk, and a chair. Other than that, it was a starkly empty room.

“I wish it had some fairy tale books.”

She entered the imperial palace frantically, so she couldn’t bring anything.

If she could go outside, she wanted to buy Illian some clothes and toys.

Rosena couldn’t fall asleep and rose up.

A faint sound came from outside as she lifted the quilt to Illian’s chest.

Rosena opened the door immediately. Yerhan stood in the pouring moonlight.

“What’s the matter…?”

“I’m here for a talk we had during the day.”

Rosena nodded, realising it.

– The wedding date has been set.

What he said during the day came to mind belatedly.

Ilian was next to her, so Rosena asked him to talk to her later.

Rosena turned her head around, checking on Illian.

He just fell asleep, so he might wake up again if they talked here.

“Let’s talk outside.”

Yerhan took a gentle step back.

Rosena quietly closed the door and stood in front of Yerhan.

On a night after everyone fell asleep, only footsteps rang out quietly in the hallway.

The two walked down the hall and remained silent up until the moment they left the palace.

“When is the wedding?”

Rosena asked first, and Yerhan answered.

“In two weeks.”

“It’s fast.”

Two weeks was a very tight time.

Most aristocrats had months to spare to arrange marriages.

“We’ll have the best wedding in two weeks.”

In a strangely confident tone, Rosena looked up and gazed at him.

“What’s wrong?”

Recognizing that stare, Yerhan stopped and asked.

When Rosena said nothing, a light embarrassment flashed over his face.

Rosena opened her mouth after a long time.

“You’re the third prince, aren’t you?”

Yerhan couldn’t say anything.

After a long time he answered slowly, lowering his eyes.

“…That’s right. I’m the third prince.”

As soon as the words were over, rumors about the third prince spread through Rosena’s head.

It was all bad words, not a single compliment.

This guy is the ugly lunatic?

Rosena looked at him with an incredulous face.
