Chapter 39

Illian followed the teacher, Grior, into the room.

Yerhan decided to decorate the room like a study room.

Next to the neat desk, there were many bookshelves on the wall. There were difficult books for a young child to read, but they were the right level for Illian.

Illian gritted his teeth.

Last time, when Yerhan told him that he would have a tutor, he thought he was trying to intimidate him. But he didn’t expect that he was really going to do that.

As Illian was thinking about how to take revenge on Yerhan, he heard the door cracking and closing.

Standing tall, Grior looked down at Illian.

“Please have a seat.”

Illian sat down obediently. Now that this had happened, Illian didn’t want to disappoint Rosena. He intended to remain as a good boy, pretending to be not smart enough.

“I’ll have to see what level you are on.”

He took out a book. Illian sneaked a look at the cover of the book in front of him.

It was a book that he once had read before, but it was of a high standard for children his age to read.

Illian pondered for a moment. He didn’t know what level to set. It seemed to be good to pretend to be lacking as much as possible.

Illian opened the book and read the letters well.

“I don’t know…..”

Grior sighed loudly, “Ha!”, and muttered to himself.

***

Grior Bertran is a brilliant student who majored in imperial language at the academy.

From an early age, he was called a language genius and graduated from the academy as the top of his class.

Grior, who was born and raised to be in good shape, was a tremendously ambitious person.

His father didn’t have real estate as a Baron, but he vowed not to live that kind of life.

There was only one goal. As an educator, he entered the imperial city and built connections with high-ranking nobles, including the imperial family.

If he was selected as a teacher of an imperial family member, a rising career would be just around the corner.

And Grior saw a notice that they were looking for a tutor for the imperial family. He applied without hesitation, not looking at anything else.

It was written that it was to teach the emperor’s grandson, so he assumed that it was about teaching the children of the second prince.

But when he entered the Imperial Palace, things went against his will. It was none other than the third prince who issued a notice to recruit tutors.

Contrary to rumors in the public, the third prince, more than healthy. He was so dignified that he felt overwhelmed.

But that was all, and in fact, he is an abandoned prince with no power.

Grior was at loss when he got involved with him, who was rumored to be abandoned by the imperial family.

He might fall out of favor with the empress after teaching the son of the third prince.

But it was already too late. Since he even got the advance payment, he couldn’t get it back.

He’d rather go in and out of the Imperial Palace and make another kite, so he visited the Third Prince Palace.

Unlike the elegant and enormous palaces, the palace of the third prince was small and minimalist. Grior was not even pleased to see the neatly decorated garden.

And when he was introduced to a child to teach, his irritation reached its peak.

– I want to wead, faiwytale book alone…

The emperor’s grandchild, with a slurred tone, was a fool by his standards.

It was a pity that his talent was going to rot by such a stupid child.

Grior, who entered the study room of the Third Prince Palace, put the book down. It was a very high-leveled book for young children.

And as expected, Illian hesitated and put the book down.

“I don’t know…”

Grior no longer hid his thoughts, uttering them.

“You’re a complete idiot, aren’t you?”

Upon hearing the word ‘idiot’, Illian opened his eyes wide.

Grior, who thought that Illian was stupid and wouldn’t know what he was saying anyway, didn’t stop complaining.

“It will be difficult to teach because your level is too low.”

Grior put down his glasses and looked down at Illian overbearingly.

“This is the book that the Prince will read from today.”

Grior took any book out of the bookshelf.

It was a book that was far from the curriculum, but it didn’t matter because he was only going to spend a little time.

Even if Illian talked about today’s event, his opponent was a young child. It was very easy to turn a young child into a liar.

Illian quietly sat in front of the desk, receiving the book he had handed out.

The only thing he liked about Illian was that he was calm. Grior yawned and changed his evaluation of Illian.

It was the moment when he thought that he should take a sneak peek at the palace of the second prince after roughly finishing today’s class.

A pointed thing slapped Grior on the cheek and fell off. Grior, who frowned, raised his head.

Then something flew in again and stabbed Grior in the eye.

“Argh!”

Grior hurriedly wrapped his eyes with his hand. Rubbing his eyes, he immediately looked down at the floor.

Then I saw two folded paper airplanes.

“What are you doing?”

Grior leapt to his feet in anger. Then Illian, who was folding a paper airplane with paper torn from a book, smiled brightly.

“But I don’t know anything.”

Grior was speechless for a moment. Meanwhile, Illian, who folded another paper plane, made the paper plane fly towards Grior.

The paper plane hit Grior’s forehead, it was a violent crash.

Grior, who could no longer stand it, grabbed Illian’s arm.

“This little….!”

“Are you going to hit me? It’s gonna leave a mark though.”

Illian blinked and said innocently. Grior gritted his teeth and let go of his arm.

It was easy to deceive the prince and the princess, but it was difficult if there was any evidence left.

Then Illian laughed his head off and dropped a thick book on his feet.

Grior swallowed his breath, he couldn’t even scream. It was a pain that couldn’t be explained by any words.

“This damn…!”

Grior couldn’t stand it any longer and tried to catch Illian.

“HUWAA!”

When Illian burst into tears, Grior panicked.

He was just laughing, but why all of a sudden? He didn’t threaten him that much either.

As Illian’s cry grew louder, the door burst open.

“Illian!”

Rosena scurried inside, and Grior panicked, stepping aside.

Rosena hurriedly hugged Illian. But Illian’s tears didn’t stop easily.

“Our Illian, why are you crying?”

When Rosena asked affectionately, Illian whimpered.

“Because, I’m… stupid… tea, teacher, got angwy.”

Grior opened his mouth upon the abominable word. But even before the excuse came out, Rosena’s eyes turned to Grior.

“Teacher?”

Rosena quietly called Grior. Grior felt that it was so unfair. He got angry because that bloody little boy threw a book.

“That’s…!”

Grior, who was trying to defend himself, shut up.

It would sound like an excuse no matter how much he told the truth because Illian sounded the alarm first.

“It, it’s my mistake.”

It felt like he was breaking his pride, but this was the only way.

If he was kicked out because of his fault, he had to give back the advance money again.

“I’ll be careful not to scare the child next time.”

“Yes, he has never cried like this before, he has always been a gentle child.”

Gentle?

Grior blinked with an expression wondering if he had misheard her.

But Rosena spoke softly with a face that showed she strongly believed that Illian was gentle.

“My child’s development is slow, so I’d like you to teach him step by step even if he can’t keep up with the class.”

“I, I see.”

Grior nodded reluctantly.

But when Illian didn’t stop crying, Rosena asked with a troubled face.

“Is it okay for today’s class to finish here?”

“…Then tomorrow…”

Grior nodded, saying, “I understand.” It wasn’t the right atmosphere to proceed with the class anyway.

Rosena, who hugged Illian, turned her back to leave first.

Then, in her arms, Illian looked at Grior with all his tears in his eyes.

When the eyes met, Illian mouthed before finally leaving the room.

Recognizing the shapes his mouth mader, Grior was astonished.

Do you think I’m a real idiot?

***

Unlike the outside, it was gruesomely cold in the basement, where even a single shred of sunlight did not enter.

The only torch on the damp wall was barely giving enough light to see.

The interior of the basement was very spacious compared to the entrance.

If a newbie fearlessly came in, he would have no choice but to get lost as it was intricately entangled like an ant’s den.

However, Yerhan did not hesitate and walked straight down. He had already been in and out countless times, so he was able to understand the structure here.

Yerhan, who was heading inward, looked at the prisons around him.

There were huge blocks of stone everywhere, and bars the size of an adult’s forearm were tightly embedded. This was not for human beings, but a place to lock up the devil.

Every time Yerhan went on a journey, he hunted the monsters, captured them alive and locked them up. Others would say it was dirty work, but in fact, the monsters could become money.

There was nothing to throw away, including hard leather, poison, fur, and fangs.

Even the by-products of some monsters were valuable medicinal herbs, which were priceless. So it wasn’t technically a lie to tell Rosena that he was making money catching animals.

But what Yerhan was looking for today was no such thing as an animal.

The sound of the chain spit out a bizarre sound.

Yerhan finally stopped, turning to where the sound came from.

There, there was an assassin whose body rattled like a mop, tied with a chain.

Numerous traces of torture remained on his body. It was hard to even look at, with blood falling everywhere.

Yerhan looked at the assassin with an indifferent face. He was one of the assassins who attacked the Prince Palace on the day of his wedding.

All the assassins who entered the bedroom were cut down, but the assassins caught by the knights were kept in a dungeon for more than a week.

And yesterday, Yerhan, who heard the news that the assassin opened his eyes, came in person.

“Are you awake?”

The man flinched at the question of Yerhan.

Slowly, the man raised his head and let out a groan with a weary face.

“…Kill me.”

Yerhan smiled. The man recoiled at the cold sneer.

“If I were going to do it, I wouldn’t have kept you alive up until now.”

Yerhan came close to the man. It was as if his face was going to touch the bars.

Across the iron bars that separated the area, Yerhan, still indifferent, gave an order.

“Tell me who’s behind it.”

The man shut his mouth. He looked like he wouldn’t talk even if a knife appeared.

Yerhan glanced down at him with narrowed eyes. Various traces of torture remained evident on his body.

After he woke up, Yelvin tortured him, but he still refused to utter a single word.

“You won’t be able to figure it out anyway.”

The man determinedly said. Yerhan twisted his lips at this man’s attitude to protect his pride by death.

“I guess you’re still worth living.”

Along with the words, the assassin felt a sore tingling energy.

Born and raised as an assassin, he was sensitive to life, but it was the first time in his life that he had felt such pain.

A feeling of pressure strangled the man, this pressure was even greater than when he was facing the monster.

“Keheuk…”

The man gulped and swallowed his breath. He thought it would be better if his nails were pulled out.

A slow, tense energy had encroached on his whole body. It was a fear of seeing a non-human existence. Tears poured madly from his eyes.

Even though he didn’t take out a knife, he felt like his whole body was being hacked.

His eyes turned white as if he was out of breath.

At the moment, the life that had been pouring upon him was scattered at once.

The man coughed and exhaled violently. It was a pain he didn’t want to go through again.

“Who’s behind it?”

Yerhan said only one thing. But he remained silent, only trembling.

Yerhan, who had been waiting for a while, opened the door and entered the prison.

It was not long before he heard the iron bump and the chain that bound the man was released.

When he felt a little relieved, Yerhan grabbed him by the back of his neck and pulled him out.

The man was dragged by Yerhan’s hands and headed deeper into the labyrinth. And when he finally stopped, it was in front of the cage where the monsters were trapped.

Without hesitation, Yerhan grabbed the back of the man’s neck and pushed him against the bars.

“Hiiikk!”

A black, unformed creature blew its tongue and headed toward the man.

The man’s face turned white with visual fear.

A man who wouldn’t budge even with a knife in his throat screamed as if he had a seizure.

“…Du, Duke!”

“The Duke?”

Yerhan raised his eyebrows.

There were only a few dukes in the empire, none of them were highly related to Yerhan.

Yerhan raised his chin with an expression telling him to speak clearly. The man with his eyes closed squeezed his voice as if he were vomiting.

“…El, Eloa.”

It was the parents of the empress. Yerhan was lost in thought.

The Duke of Eloa was very interested in the throne. It was no exaggeration to say that he was looking forward to the day of the crown prince’s ascension.

It was by far true if there was such a thorn in the eyes for the Duke of Eloa.

The duke had not only openly kept Yerhan in check, but also threatened him without hesitation.

He thought he had given up because the assassins were killed a few years ago.

Yerhan, who got the necessary information, immediately turned his steps.

As he left the shady dungeon and stepped onto the ground, Yelvin and Isaac, who had been waiting outside, approached.

Yerhan glanced at Yelvin and nodded.

“Take care of him.”

Under the order, Yelvin bowed his head lightly and immediately went underground.

Yerhan, left alone with Isaac, stared briefly at the dungeon.

First thing, he found out the Duke of Eloa was after himself again.

It was okay for him, but he could never see Rosena in danger.

Yerhan swept his hair up roughly. He wanted to quit everything and stay in the Imperial Palace. But this was a promise with the emperor.

Promise that they could be symbiosis with each other.

Yerhan murmured with his fists clenched.

“Increase the security of the Prince Palace as much as possible.”

“I’ll take care of it.”

Yerhan started walking ahead. Isaac quietly followed as he crossed through the bushes.

“What happened back there?”

Isaac immediately realized what Yerhan was saying. He was talking about the day Rosena found the countess.

Isaac agonized for a moment. What happened back then was extremely personal to Rosena.

He thought it would be right to wait for her to speak in person.

After all, he said nothing about what happened between the people of the county and Rosena.

“There was no problem until Her Highness talked to her family. But… she went into a room and she turned pale.”

“A room?”

“Yes. Her Highness said she’d go in alone, so I didn’t know the details because I was guarding the hallway.”

Isaac was curious, too. What did Rosena witness there?

Rosena of that day seemed to have witnessed a devastating event.

“From what I heard from the butler, it seemed to be the room used by the late count.”

When Isaac shook off everything he knew, Yerhan was lost in thought for a moment.

“Look into Count Estarot’s family.”

“Okay, Sir.”

Isaac looked up at Yerhan with a face asking if there was anything more to say.

The troubled Yerhan left just one more order.

“Get plenty of stationery before we go on an expedition.”

Isaac blinked with a dazed face. It was because such stuff was not necessary to bring to the expedition.

However, he later realized the reason upon seeing Yerhan writing a letter in the middle of nowhere.
