The Failed Prodigy

Chapter 6
Forthcoming World and the Decision

Samwell unconsciously clapped as he exclaimed,
Boy, he is something.

He turned to Sierra and respectfully added,
If I wanted to use that child, I could easily depose you, but I am not using that. Please consider my sincerity.

Your sincerity is that you are threatening me.

Samwell shamelessly replied to her,
Just as what that child said, choose what is more precious to you. The Indu could run without you, but your boy cannot..

Sierra stopped arguing with him. He was offering a deal, but it was a roundabout way of forcing her to hand over the ruling title to the person of his choosing. The only good thing mixed in it was Concordia. She was never a part of that place, but they nurtured Rudolf as the most famed prodigy and were always eager to take him back. She understood why Concordia was willing to take them. It was most probably that they wanted her husband and she was just a bonus tagging along.

She looked at the child and asked him,
Are you okay, Hans?

Hans didn't know what being a human meant in the first place, but he didn't like the atmosphere. He turned to face Samwell and said,

Of course, what is so great about being a human, they come to someone’s home and force people to do things that they do not want.

Rudolf almost bursted into laughter, just before the kid left Ekadamir speechless and now he was criticising Samwell’s rude behaviour. Samwell, rather than feeling contempt towards the child, he got more interested in him. The child was barely eight and his way with the words reminded him of his little brother, who was known for small but efficient words.

Hans asked Rudolf,

Gramps, are we being oppressed? Because I feel like we are oppressed here, I don't like this feeling. I wanted to leave this shitty place on our own terms, not because some people forced us to it.

Hans was riding momentum, after Ekdamir and Samwell it was Rudol’s turn to get grilled, he didn't like how Rudolf was allowing them to run rampant with their tongues but Sierra stopped him and said to Rudolf, “I will follow whatever you choose” and took Hans inside with her.

Hans had no choice but to follow her back, but he couldn't hold himself and asked her,
Granma, why are you following their whims?

Sierra knelt down and hold the child’s shoulder with both hands and said,

You asked me why the sword in a sheath is the strongest. This is a prime example of it. They are weaker than us, but we have to follow whatever they choose. In civilization, powerful people do not always win, but those who win are deemed powerful.

Hans still doesn't get the full picture, but knowing this philosophical answer was less important than the current question on his mind. He asked Sierra, who was trying to overhear things.

Granma, who are these people?

Sierra replied,
They are from Genas land, the place you want to go.

Hans inquired in excitement.
Which country?

Sierra asked back,
How many are there?

Hans took his both hands out and started counted by the fingers.
First is Grimgar in the centre, Parv in the east, Sunfall in the west, Utar is north and Indu in the south.

Sierra patted him and said,
You missed the non - humans ones..

Hans interrupted her and continued,
Clandor of Elves, northeast of the continent's end and ForgeLand of Dwarves at the west end of the land..

There are two more places that are not mentioned in the books brought here. One is called the deadlands, a place ruled by the extraterrestrials called red demons. They took over a vast region of Utar, but the people of genas stopped and encased them in the grand Utar barrier. Another one is Madaruka, you don't need to know about it right now.

She continued,
I was raised in Indu as their chief priestess.

Hans made a questioning face because he didn't understand what a chief priestess was, so she explained to him,
Treat it as a chosen queen.

Hans exclaimed,
So you were a bigwig.

Sierra chuckled because she saw Rudolf’s influence in his choice of words and continued,
Your grandpa is from the current strongest nation, Grimgar.

Hans was still stuck on her previous explanation of the places, which he didn't find in any of the books present in the house. A place taken over by unknown lifeforms called red demons and a mysterious place, Madaruka. So he asked her.

What are red demons?

Sierra remembered the past. It was a dark time for the Genas’ people. She started the story which has almost consumed their youth full days.

It was roughly twenty-six years ago, in the year 1036, when our child Samson reached the age of nine. We discovered a large rupture in the sky, right above the shore of the North Sea. That became a precursor of the forthcoming War of survival, also known as "The Great Northern War," in which we suffered and were forced to flee. This war is not recorded in the books here.

Sierra continued,

Before the rupture, that area was established as the trading post between the human territories and the Elven lands with a very fragile diplomatic tie. On that day a bright purple light strikes from the sky, above the seashore of the north sea at port GENI.

Everything within hundreds of metres of radius became charred black. The busiest port on the continent became as silent as a graveyard.

A swarm of unknown beings came from that rupture. They were armoured in red, some had many hands and bug-like wings, they used unknown magic and started slaughtering people of Utar; later we call them “Red Demons”.

There was not a single citizen of the coast who survived the slaughter of red demons, Rudolf, and some more powerful people went to fight them but barely escaped their clutches and when we gained a foothold in the struggle, we had already lost half of Utar territory (North part of Genas).

After remembering the happenings of the past, she realised that she was taking red demons too lightly and Hans’ question helped her make the decision. She looked at the boy and admitted,

It looks like we will soon leave this place, Hans.

She decided after a lot because if the barrier broke; she was the only one who could help the masses heal as the sole owner of divine mana. Her presence was required if the people on the mainland wished to survive the second invasion. Hans wasn't stupid either. He realised that something must have happened in the Genas, for the king of Grimgar had to make a personal appearance.

Rudolf seemed to discuss something further away from them and, by looking at his expressions, the situation seemed pretty bad. Hans was looking at Sierra and realised that she also wanted to go back by her own choice. He became happy inside, knowing his wish was going to be fulfilled soon .

Rudolf came back and looked towards the worried face of Sierra and said.
It seems like we have to go back.

When? Sierra asked.

Not right now. The crack was big, but they pretty much handled it with Concordia's reserves.

Sierra asked in a hurry
So when?

Rudolf then told her calmly,
Within two years, approx.

Samwell followed him from behind and looked at the little boy, who was staring back at him. Hans belatedly realised the reason for raining hard on the past days was because someone was trying to establish a space connection. He reprimanded Samwell by imitating Sierra's obnoxious tone.

So king Samwell was the reason for continual rain over the past few days.

Samwell scratched his back of the head, not understanding why this child was looking at him like he just stole his candy, but he chose to apologise.

Sorry, little fella.

Hans went on a full swing for ranting.
Who is a little fella? You need to compensate me, because of you I was stuck in the home. Do you have any idea how boring it gets when it rained here?

It was true, because these people were trying to bypass the mana of the Ghost Isles, the weather turned extreme. With Hans' onslaught of questions, Samwell sought help from the elder couples, but all he received was a look that said, "It's your own problem. Deal with it yourself."

Then he inquired, "How do you want to be compensated, little one?"

I’m telling you, I’m eight, not the kid or the little one, and my name is Hans. Understand.

You are more arrogant than royalty; you know.

Well, you are in my territory, mister. Things die like flies here.

When the group heard this little boy's manner of speaking, everyone became silent. His demeanour was eerily similar to Rudolf, but instead of cursing it was fit with witty comments. Samwell turned to Rudolf for justification, but he only met the eyes of an old man who was proud of Hans’ attitude and was beaming from ear to ear. Hans's domineering manner of speech delighted him, and he responded to Samwell's look.

I raised this one too. What were you expecting, a cow before the harp?
