Crunch—

A crunching sound reverberated throughout the empty room, on the bed silhouette could be seen in the form of a very young boy. He seemed to be unperturbed by the darkness surrounding him as if he was used to it in some kind of way.

Crunch—

The young boy once again took a bite out of his apple, sinking his teeth savagely into the small fruit, holding it tightly in his hand. he picked up a bottle on the side of the bed and open it.

Sptss—

The cover was discarded onto the bed as the young boy lifted his metal flask to his mouth. He downed the substance within the flask quickly as if he hadn't drunk for days on end. Although, it appeared that he had drank way too quickly and I started to cough.

Cough— Cough—

The boy seemed to cough for minutes and he pounded his chest ferociously as if trying to empty the water that was in his throat. Finally done with his refreshments the boy once again went back to eating the apple.

Crunch—

The cycle continued for many many hours until the boy was finished with all the apples and flasks of water that he had in his room. Once he was done the boy laid back on his bed and he looked at his room with an empty gaze.

That boy was Lynx.

Finally, he wondered how long he would have to live this way. He was well aware that he was running away from his problems and that he should find a way to resolve them before they could get any more complicated.

However, the pessimist within him yells that he had no chance of redemption and that he will be better off not going out at all to save himself the trouble. Lynx closed his eyes and breathed in. Taking in the vile stench of his clothes and body.

He had not washed for days only leaving his room to take two apples and one flask of water, The remnants of which he left on the floor of his room. At this point, he was probably the one feeding all the animals on the floor but mostly the ants.

The mirror in his room warped and the thing he did not want to see before him appeared once more. Lynx, to his credit, barely reacted as he saw the other "Lynx" come out of the mirror. The dark Lynx smiled at him and Lynx glared.

"What do you want from me, can you just leave me in peace?" Lynx tiredly asked as he looked at the other version of himself.

"It would seem that I cannot leave you alone, I relish in the fact that you may have come to terms with your reality and shall accept your fate of handing our body over to me," Dark Lynx said as he smiled, rubbing his hands and looking a Lynx with a predatory gaze.

Contrary to expectations, Lynx didn't react to the other's words, if it had been a few days earlier he might have still been terrified of the other version of himself. Now though? Lynx was just tired, he didn't feel like moving his body at all.

"Ah, No fun, I suppose I do wonder if you ever get bored of wallowing in self-pity. I mean, don't you ever find it boring sitting in this dark room, all day long," dark Lynx said, a bored look on his face as he looked at Lynx, "Why don't we go to play? I want to be in the sun, come on get up you moping, wet blanket."

Lynx felt his eyebrows raise, "Aren't you like, my shadow? So, you're meaning to tell me that you, the literal embodiment of darkness want to go into the daylight, you are just crazy."

Dark Lynx pouted and Lynx went back to looking at the photo in his hands. He carefully scraped off the leftover blood on the picture. He flicked his fingers and threw the scraps of blood away. He blew the picture intensely and placed the picture frame on his bed where he could see the picture more clearly.

"Hey! hey why don't you sing a song for me and the boredom might go away. If you're good enough you could probably drive me away as well,  so why don't you try it?" Dark Lynx once again started to run his mouth but Lynx placed him out of his mind this time carefully looking at the photo.

Lynx looked up at Dark Lynx and replied, "I won't be singing and most certainly not for you if in the case that I would like to sing," Dark Lynx huffed as he floated upside down.

"Lynx! You have made me angry once again, this time I will not let you rest," Dark Lynx said, Lynx looking up to see he disappeared.

A chill went up his spine as he looked at his room, which seemed to now be closing in on itself and everything within it seem to want to devour him. Lynx sat on his bed unperturbed until he was hit in the head by one of the guitars on the floor.

It hurt, badly.

Lynx could feel a liquid journey down his face and get into his eyes. He saw red and he knew that it was his blood,  he questioned how it was even possible for a figment of his mind to manipulate the space around him to hurt him.

Lynx was no longer as calm as he was before but he quickly sensed that he could do nothing as everything in his room closed in on him, so he resigned to his fate. Praying that he wouldn't die a painful death he blocked his face.

"Ugh—" Pain erupted from every side of his body and his vision blurred along with his recollection. Lynx curled up on himself as he tried to protect his body from the onslaught of attacking instruments from all sides, it was chaos for several moments.

Until it stopped.

Lynx paused, opening his eyes to see himself in the mirror curling up on the bed like a scared child, his face burned with shame. He knew that he was a child but due to his upbringing he had the tendency to hold himself to a higher standard and seeing himself as this put him in a state of anger.

"Hah! Now, do you understand why I need your body? You are simply not worthy enough to control this magnificent creation and I shall take it from you so that I can bring it back to its fullest potential."

Lynx coldly looked at the fake in front of him, the pictures and instruments all around him seemed to be morphing into ridiculing faces, all but one.

Marcus's expression in those pictures never once changed since the start and Lynx recalled some of the times he had with his brother.

Those were the times when all was alright and he could embrace his brother for comfort when he couldn't withstand the expectations of his parents. His brother was at the campsite full of life in a desolate tundra filled with suffering.

When that solace disappeared, Lynx… could no longer endure the cold. He lit his heart with superficial emotions and desires and lost sight of himself in the process, Lynx thought as he looked at his brother's smiling face among those who ridiculed him.

Lynx could now see what his brother meant on the day before he died of food poisoning, at that time Lynx didn't understand his words but now he did.

—The world is unforgiving and cruel but we choose how to react, react not to negative influences and you will be victorious in your endeavors. Should you fail to remember this moment, try again. We made enough songs and flunked enough of our parent's tests to know that failure isn't the end, right brother?—

Everything made sense to Lynx now, why he never could find happiness when he made fun of and clowned others. He was merely projecting his lack of judgment and insecurity. Lynx looked at the world with clearer eyes now and the hallucinations smiled before they disappeared.

"Aw~ I wanted to control our body for a bit too!" Dark Lynx pouted and he whined, throwing a tantrum in the air. But the smile on his face gave him away, "You finally did it huh? I'm glad I don't have to take control anymore, the realm of consciousness is much less burdensome than this retched place."

"I see, so you sought to help me," Lynx said as he smiled, it was a genuine smile, "Thank you!"

"Man, when was the last time I said thank you? It's crazy when you think about it," Dark Lynx's form started fading and Lynx tried to touch him but he disappeared.

Lynx lowered his hand and looked at the space in the air, bowing his head before he took a deep breath. He looked in the mirror and no longer did his eyes reflect that dark sea but now it told of rising flames, his eyes shined brightly as he boldly proclaimed.

"Never— again shall, I, Lynx be subjugated by my own emotions and lack of self-control in any situation. I shall strive for Intellectual, emotional, and spiritual excellence," Lynx placed his hand on his chest and his eyes seemed to shine brighter, going from a mild pink to a blazing red.

On this day he made an oath that would change his life forever.

"I will forever endure this cold world and never, surrender the bright flames in my heart," His eyes shined unnaturally as he said his final piece, "Even if I feel that all may be lost, I will never stop trying my best and I place this vow on my heart if I dare to break it..."

"May i be struck down!"

Lynx stopped satisfied and breathed, "That was easy, I feel much better now. Time to clean my room—"

Clanck—

Lynx looked around vigilantly for the sound before he jumped, screaming. Not with fear but excitement, because what he saw on the floor was too good to be true.

It was a vision.

Cryo to be exact.
