Emmy felt her stomach churn as the space around her warped uncontrollably, like a whirlpool it spun and twisted. She closed her eyes as she didn't want her mind to suffer anymore, although it did little for her body.

'It is better than taking double the harm though,' Emmy thought as she kept her eyes shut before the feeling settled, 'That is a plus in my book.'

Emmy opened her eyes, coming to see that the forest she was in was replaced once again by that blank space. She didn't see anyone else there though.

"Hello?" Emmy grasped her sword, feeling that her hands were too idle, "Um, system? Are you there?"

It was a stupid question.

But Emmy couldn't be blamed for such a thing. She was taken out of the forest simulation and was expecting the system to welcome her with something other than a blank space.

[System has finished calculating the Host's results.]

[Is the host ready for Viewing?]

'Yes,' Emmy thought, her gaze seeming to penetrate through the purple screen in front of her as a circle spun around in the middle.

[Displaying Evaluation!]

[Evaluation: B!]

[Instructor Comments:

Master Blade: A talent for sure but her moves are slightly clumsy and lacking in cooperation. Excellent intellect and blade work in light of such a short time to learn. Overall a [B] rank evaluation!

Master Blood: Superb Mental fortitude and will to kill! Excellent sword technique in light of the short period for mastery! [S] rank evaluation!

Master Fawn: Excellent Killer instinct. Use of surroundings requires work but it is a talent worth cultivating [A] rank evaluation!

Master Mist: Splendid talent and application. Excellent aerodynamic movement. Excellent mastery over energy for such a short period but needs improvement. [A] rank evaluation.

Master Force: Terrible grasp of the surrounding terrain and sloppy footwork. Severe lack of situational awareness due to lack of battle experience so it shall be pardoned. Excellent mental facilities and will, capable of resisting the killing intent of higher-ranked opponents. Could be taught. [B] rank evaluation.]

[That is all!]

"Huuu~," Emmy breathed out, her hands on her hips. She trained her sights on the comments left by what appeared to be her future instructors whom she haven't met yet. Some of them were kind and some were…

They had a different outlooks on some things.

Particularly Master Force and Mist, whom she had already been acquainted with. Their comments were harsh but very true and she didn't find any fault with them.

She didn't have any dislike for them either, as they were just stating the truth and weren't doing it out of maliciousness.

Probably.

Emmy scanned the comments, "Most of them are saying the same thing," She tapped her chin, her head tilted, "I guess I have to improve this flaw and gain more combat experience I suppose."

The girl waved her hand and the screen dissipated into a purple mist, "System! What techniques do I get for my friend?"

[The Heart String – [A] rank Bow Technique: It was once a song played by the bearer of a raven, but the raven died due to an assault on the user's life. The user used this song and transformed it into a nigh-unstoppable Bow Technique. The raven was gone but the perpetrators were killed.]

Nigh-Unstoppable?

"Why give it to me then?" Emmy scratched her head, she was slightly muddled as to why the system gave her this seemingly broken technique for her friend in light of her failures.

[The Technique is suitable for children and is a foundational Technique. It is also capable of growing and assisting the user in developing their combat style. It is a peak grade [A] rank technique or [A++] in terms of statistics.]

"Hmm," Emmy rubbed her hands, "So how do I give it to her? I can't do a mental transfer like you did to me or can I?"

[The Host will receive an information capsule similar to those in Sumeru to give to Fischl, the host should be capable of deceit.]

"Aren't you teaching a little girl how to lie?" Emmy found it funny barely restraining the smile creeping up onto her lips, "What if her parents found out?"

[Deceit is a necessary skill in this world, unfortunately. The host should cast aside any restraints if you should want to progress in life.

Warning!

Casting aside restraints is not synonymous with losing moral integrity. The Host should be moral and upstanding but also open-minded to using dirty tactics.]

"Oh?" Emmy raised an eyebrow before she chuckled, it sounded as if a bird had pecked an empty barrel, hollow and bare of substance. Emmy's eyes darkened in the reflection of the system screen and she grinned, "You don't need to worry about me, I'm an upstanding citizen."

[The system understands.]

[Now sending Host out of the System space. The information capsule will appear in the room at dawn the next day.]

"Okay!"

The world swirled and her vision crashed before she found herself in eternal darkness.

"Aah!" Emmy woke up her arms flailing about as she explosively sat up on her bed, her legs strained from the sudden force.

Her body reacted instinctively and sent her back down onto the bed to prevent injury.

"Uwah~," Emmy lay there on her bed, dazed. For a few moments, she didn't sit up, opting to remove her legs from their crossed position as it was the reason for her pain.

She continued to idle on the bed for a while before she took a whiff of her body odor. She didn't like it, by the way, her eyes crinkled.

"I need to bathe," Emmy said, she rolled off the bed and landed on the ground in a push-up position.

She pushed herself off the ground, dashing around the room in a flurry as she took all of her bathing tools. She passed through the door like a ghost and went into the bathroom, where she would take a nice, relaxing soak.

"This is the best," She said, her voice dipped in honey as she yawned nearly falling asleep in the warm water. She played around with her ducky for a bit before she got up dry herself off.

"Huah~," Emmy exited the bathroom after a nice bath, going to her room to get dressed.

She opened the door and entered, immediately heading toward her drawer to get her white pajamas with clouds embroiled in them. She put them on and finished drying the rest of her hair before hanging her bath towel on the balcony.

"It's night now huh?" Emmy said, her voice disappearing in the night wind. She closed her window, her feet taking her toward her bed before she plopped down on the soft mattress.

The likes of which her parents bought from special craftsmen, they were away a lot so they tried to make things as comfortable for her as possible. Emmy rolled onto the soft bed, she settled on her back as she looked up at the bedroom ceiling.

She covered her eyes with her hands, the candles in the room were long blown out. She lay in silence for a moment before she was suddenly overcome with a feeling, she pursed her lips a sour taste settling in her heart.

She experienced this feeling many times before, usually when her parents left for a particularly long adventure to Fontaine, her father's homeland. She wished they were her but it was an unrealistic hope born from insecurity.

An attribute of a fickle emotion called…

"A sour feeling in my chest, a family no longer at my behest. Longing for a home filled with laughter and joy, nothing left but deaths taunting banter and coy."

Emmy uncovered her eyes, revealing a slightly tear-stained face, "A girl and an empty home, her heart shielded in an unbreakable dome. For fear that all she has shall be no more, that shield will never thaw."

"Ah~ it seems that I still lack self-control, crying again," Emmy wiped her eyes, her smile reminiscent of a doll, "This feeling, what was it again?"

A sour feeling…

Tears and longing.

Emmy listed off all the clues in her mind, hoping to find the emotion that plagued her many times before that even she, an established academic at the age of 5 could no longer count.

What use were such accomplishments? Those that were important enough to give praise aren't here.

"Ah! Is it sadness?" Emmy beamed, she got the answer correct as always, her expression tamed as there was no one to praise her.

[The System is here Host.]

"Hmm," Emmy nodded at the purple screen, her expression a bit cheerer than before. She yawned and the System screen disappeared.

"I just wish that they would be here more often," Emmy said, her yawns occurring at a more frequent pace. Her eyes slowly drifted to a close.

Idly, she wondered how her parents were doing. Are they in a warm place? Are they cold? Did they have enough to eat? Emmy began to worry so much that she didn't notice a purple light flash.

[Goodnight Host, Sleep.]

Huh?

So sleepy…

Emmy fell asleep abruptly. The system screen warped and slowly transformed into a humanoid entity with no facial features. The figure patted the head of the girl gently, pulling the blanket over her.

[The Host should sleep well. It is bad to miss sleep, yeah.]

The man then transformed into a beam of light before entering Emmy's forehead, nobody was here to see this mysterious scene.

***

[Scanning…]

In a library that seemed to stretch on forever under a ceiling that certainly pierced the sky a purple entity roamed, it continued to search for a specific book. The search continued for hours on end but the looked to be no success.

The entity sighed and spread its arms, a mass of overpowering purple energy exploded out of its form and millions of books flew from every direction to the entity. The books stopped in time, floating in the air as the entity snapped its fingers.

The scenery changed to an office room, equally gigantic in size. All the books were placed there on the floor as the entity held one. Numbers bounced off its palm and engulfed the book, absorbing the contents, unsatisfied the book was thrown away.

[The Host might be in danger! Where is the information needed.]

That entity was now revealed to be the [System] Emmy's training guide and the one who swore to bring her to her full potential.

It was currently searching for the secrets kept from it, it sensed a great threat from such a lack of information.

The [World Records] have been tampered with and thus the system could only look to the more tedious but safer [Eternal Library], its backup database.

Nothing was allowed to threaten the Host.

The System searched for a long time amidst the books before finally chancing upon a small notebook. It smiled, its 'features' crinkling into a half-moon.

The title of the books was then revealed. It was…

[Recollections of the Human Alpha: The Fall of Mankind and Celestial Tyranny.]
